PC So this is where roland said to go to gripe about a17 and the early release...

Great marketing. Even with that giant list of streamers theres only like 4k people watching on Twitch... It's below Chess ffs.
it's great marketing? how? the fun pimps gain nothing from this but an irate playerbase.

wife and I were discussing this over dinner. I asked her to help me see it from the point of view of "why does it matter, yer gettin it in 3 days"

I'll ask you all to do the same. Help me understand why me watching a bunch of streamers (that i never watch, i don't do the twitch crap, sorry folks) helps the fun pimps.

Now, don't get me wrong. I love this game. I enjoy playing it immensly. my 1500+ hours has been a blast, and when Monday comes around, I'm sure I'll be grinning ear to ear still and probably add a couple hundred more hours to that total. I always give the game praise, I bring it up with everyone I ever talk with about games. Heck, it's the ONLY survival game my wife LOVES to play (btw, she can careless whether she gets it on monday or not)

if game sold 4,000,000 copies and total viewership of streams is around 4000, thats 0.1% of the player base.
Streamers can give copies to their friends to play with them.

At this point, just release it for all.
So if I were to give you the password right now all would be forgiven and you would be happy? That seems worth it to me but it's a big decision.

Just give me a day and a half to think it over...

haha

No. Do I want it sure, not going to lie. Ive said it before.

I was going in with an open mind, now after the event I disagree with *this* decision.

Streamers in NZ/Aus/Asia got shortchanged, considering it didnt unlock until 12PM AEST saturday.

This is funny to see how the whiteknights around here are trying to justify such poor decision TFP made. Personally, I would be very interested to hear from them actually, with their words. Again, I see no proper justification for ONLY giving it to streamers, I don't see any except to upset long time followers and show how disrespectful TFP are against most of their community. TFP are good (but slow) at developing their game so leave this ♥♥♥♥ty marketing methods to other publishers out there with their game that is not in Early Access and more specifically, LISTEN to your community.
I can't believe you figured it out. I'll slip out of my whiteknight mask and admit that TFP only wanted to ♥♥♥♥ on us who already have bought the game and supported them for years. They actually said, "We're so tired of all these complainers who give us grief about the decisions we make and release dates, so we're going to take the piss out of them and give it to streamers first."

Gold star for figuring out their diabolical plan. Be sure and leave a particularly rabid negative review on Steam.

You are against the streaming event but are outraged that there will be less of it in your country?

Im saying it wasnt planned or executed as well as it could have been.

If only 0.1% of the player base tuned in, was it worth it compared to just releasing for all?

I gave it a chance, those are my gripes, posted in the gripe thread.

There won't be less of it.

We won't get release until Tuesday.

The period remains the same, (Greta Van Fleets next album?)

I think Trolland is trying to get hired by Blizzard on the Diablo Immortal project by the level of avoidance he is showing to the questions asked here. The problem is not the stream event, it is who gets access. Streamers with less then 50 wievers has close to zero marketing value. There are also so many streamers who just plain sucks at the game. So when the big streamers is offline, it is just terrible to watch the rest of the streamers. Had the big mod developers, who knows the game well, also been given access it would be alot more enjoyable to watch streams.

To actually see decent gamers take a shot at alpha 17 would be miles above some of the absolute garbage streamers who cares more about loud music, effects, gimics and shouting when someone donates 5 cent, than the game itself

a suggestion for the future, Roland

5 dollar buy in on the 3day experiemental.

my reasons why it's a good idea.

1) i'd rather pay the fun pimps money than supporting a streamer. Sorry Streamers, I don't watch you all anyways, and giving TFP the cash would mean that they get more revenue to play with for the game.

2) it removes the whole "but i bought a ticket already, why can't i watch the movie too" right now, with how it was implemented, it's just unfair. It put the onus on the developer and they picked winners and losers.

just an idea.

i have been checking out probaly 20-30 streamers and the average time before closing the stream has probaly been 5-10 min

Quote from Roland "I feed upon forum anger for my breakfast every morning"

I think you are transforming to the Behemoth

It's funny. People have been screaming for 16 months for news and any tidbit of information they can possibly get and for gameplay videos to be released weekly and now during one weekend they suddenly don't want anything spoiled. Weird.

I'm sorry if my joke about watching streamers early was offensive. I didn't really expect anyone to take it seriously.
I don't watch Joel's trolling videos he's been posting for months because I want to experience the game for myself and not be bored of every new feature before I got a chance to play at all. This streamer thing is worse, and it's offensive to the people who paid for the game, no matter how you try to spin it, that's how most of us here feel.

How's it going with the ZipLines? Do you even care anymore? You used to be one of us.

Yep! Only streamers will ever play A17. Only them! Never will the rest of us play A17-E (E = experimental = not stable in case your tears blurred out the E)

Common sense, just basic common sense, would help you to understand that TFP didn't have a streamer event only to offend the thin-skinned & self-entitled player base. TFP isn't even the only indie game to have streamer only events. Just try to remember... not everything is about you.

There have been perfectly good reasons for a 3 day period to streamers given in the thread. I've made my own points but since they're logical i get no replies and lots of fingers in ears people still make their great argument about how unfair it is.

Also, 4000 streamers doesn't mean that's for the whole weekend. And it's only twitch. I and a lot of others don't use twitch but are watching on youtube. Kages first video already has 5000 views!

Where did you get that 4,000 number for total stream viewers? Pulled that right out of thin air didn't ya. Just in Kage/Pokket/G.E./G4K/Skippy you had over that. That's with 5 out of the over 100 streamers....... Stop trying to make your point with random made up statistics please.

Except for one point: Three days exclusive is not anything a modder will drool over.
Modders by the way got a big, no, A BIG present in A17. Not only the new buff system, but a new way to package and modularize mods. It is already christmas time for modders.
As a modder with A17-E access, I have to disagree.

I've honestly spent about 3-4 hours poking the XML and breaking it. ;) And about 40 minutes actually playing.

3-4 days early access is absolutely something I am drooling over because I get to see all the new toys I can play with, and then break it all. I literally have 2 copies of A17-E on my system right now, one for testing out crazy ideas and one to just play it as the dev's intended.

My wife isn't happy though... :D

I took the number from a shot posted earlier.

But seeing as you asked for something to pulled, I pulled this graph.

So it's not 4000 viewers total as you were trying to imply. At a rough look it had averaged 3000 viewers per hour. If people watched an average of two hours (that's high i think) then that would roughly make it 36,000 viewers in a 24 hour period. Now is that just twitch or YouTube or both?
