PC RTX 30 series

Even if AMD could compete with the 3080, you'll almost guaranteed hate the drivers / software for at least a year after release, because AMD always fails in the software / drivers department. At least with Nvidia, you get what you paid for.
They didn't always fail with the drivers, but they did with the 5700xt series, that's true. I'll wait for real world tests anyway, then i will see if the drivers work.

I want a new monitor (replacing FHD with UWQHD) and i don't want to lock in into NVidia with G-Sync, but it's horrible to find out what Adpative Sync monitors work as g-sync-comaptible. At least this problem would be solved entirely with AMD FreeSync.

Also i hope that the equivalent AMD card comes with 12-16GB VRAM. Imho the 10GB of the 3080 are not a huge problem (now), but also not really future proof.

I have yet to see a game that uses more than 4GB of vram on a 1080p resolution, so I'm quite fine with a 10GB card for several years. Besides, like the tech channels pointed out, what we see while gaming is just vram queued up and ready to be used, it doesn't mean that much is being used in that moment. So like a game that might queue up 4GB of vram on a 6GB card would probably still have the exact same performance benefit as a card limited to something like 3GB of total vram available. And 10GB is quite a lot... unless you want 4k resolutions, in which case, it might crowd the limit within a few years.

Of course it is queued up, because if it is not there when it's needed fps will drop significantly. And yes, for FHD 10GB is fine. But for only FHD a 3080 is overkill anyway.

And i want to go for higher resolution, as i said. Not yet UHD, but lets see what the future brings. UWHD is already ~60% of UHD and still 2,5 times the pixels of FHD.

And i plan to use my graphics cards for several years, i don't upgrade with every new generation.

I'm fine if you buy yourself a 3080 asap. Obviously i have slightly different priorities and can wait until AMD shows what they have. If they can't compete, i can still buy a 3080.

It isn't overkill for me because Minecraft practically demands it, and I'm sure in a year or two from now, other games will require it in order to reach max quality as well. And at the speeds the vram is working at, I doubt it would impact the fps much (if at all) to swap data for queuing, not unless the game requires a lot more than 10GB.
