Retractable ladders

I mean, I just put a ladder at whatever height I can jump. No need for blocks. The zombies have never managed to pile on top of one another to reach it, even without parkour. But that would still be interesting to have.

This happened in older versions, but not in the current one.
It would be great if they added also retractable (manual) ladders, like the fire escape ladders you see sometimes on buildings.
This ladder has one small problem: a couple of years without lubrication in a rainy climate and it stops extending.

Yeah, agreed... but fortunately we're playing A GAME! 😅

In PvP for example they could make it so that it can only be activated by the owner. That way if you're inside your LCB area, enemy players would not be able to place blocks to climb up but you'd be able to enter your base by activating the ladder easily and quickly.

If your base is discovered in PvP, it means you no longer have a base.

They can nerd pole, remember. Even if they couldn't, it's not hard to add a ladder of your own or blocks as steps to get in. A ladder of any kind won't change them being able to get into the base.

So... you don't defend it?
You could, sure. I think he meant that nothing you can do other than actively defend it will prevent another person from being able to destroy it if they wanted to.

It is much easier to notice a player running along a wall than a player sitting in the bushes. And if your base is found, they'll loot it. This is especially convenient when you're offline.
Ok then, but I don't get why this has anything to do specifically with ladders anyways. 🤷‍♂️

You were talking about ladders being only activated by the owner in PVP to avoid being able to get into the base. That wouldn't really work.

Also, most people playing PVP aren't going to use land claims. That makes it too easy to find a base, even if it's underground.

Riamus already answered, so I'll just add a bit. In PvP, it's easier for me to carefully approach the base, crouch in the bushes with a sniper rifle, wait for a player to appear in my sights, and carefully put a bullet in their head. So let's leave the PvP mode - it's very unique.

Now, about the ladder itself. It would be more logical to make the design folding rather than retractable. It's a simpler design, something you can literally throw together. It would be good for a Horde base. Currently, the only thing we have to break the path is a drawbridge; it can break the path horizontally. And a similar ladder could break the path vertically. But on the other hand, I haven't seen zombies purposefully climbing on top of each other in a long time, like they did in A17, for example. Therefore, installing a ladder starting from block 3 already solves the problem.

How about this too?

I'd love to have the block for decoration purposes.

I would point out something though. If you're on the fire escape, you don't need the ladder to extend to get down. The fall isn't very far. And, if you're on the ground, there isn't a way to extend it. That's intentional as you don't want thieves to use it to get to the upper floors. So other than appearances, how does this help? I guess you'd like to be able to leave it down when you leave the building? Perhaps you want to wire it into circuits and have it automatically extend when a motion detectors sees you?

Sure, but to activate it you have to jump up and grab it. If that's the case, why does the ladder need to extend? You can already jump and grab a ladder. Or are you assuming the ladder will stay down? I thought they automatically went back up, but I've never had one to play with so I don't really know. Hence, my inquiry.

Could work with the sliding garage door mechanic pretty easily I'd think. It would be most useful one block thick vs 2-3 blocks sticking out.

I don't understand your critics... it's the same thing as the drawbridge.
When you have to activate it from the other side you can still reach it right? 🤷‍♂️

For me, I don't see any value for solo, co-op, or PVP beyond aesthetics. It would be a nice addition for aesthetics, but it just doesn't really offer anything else. Zombies won't reach your static ladder on the side of the building as it is, and players can get around your defenses with ease.
