RE: Why did you like jars?

Do you have any idea how annoying it would be for builders to add even semi-realistic weight restrictions? When I'm building something that's going to take millions of concrete mix (yes, I do this fairly regularly), having to make hundreds (likely thousands) of trips from mine to base to move all the stone I'm going to need would be a non-starter.

I agree. I'm not in any way suggesting that for 7D2D.

But I would also note that there would be options if a game, like 7D2D, wanted to get closer to "keeping it real." For instance, we have vehicles in this game. We could have working fork lifts, semi-trucks, cement trucks, mining machines, etc. This is one reason I keep a game like Space Engineers handy. I like it's approach to in-game building.

Yeah, I just wish Space Engineers had more of an actual game wrapped around it. I'd love something like Space Engineers set in a simulated universe like you have with X4: Foundations.

A 4 x 4 ATV sounds like it would be cool for 7 Days. Absolutely love Space Engineers!

I am glad that jars were removed. There was no risk with them. Grab a bunch of sand, craft a ton of them in the forge, go to a water source and fill them up, then place them in storage. You would have a ton of murky water just waiting for you to use. No need to bring any home from looting POIs.

With the system today, dew collectors will automatically provide water over time, but in limited quantities and the collector generates heat activity. Bringing home jars from POIs is now worthwhile.
Says who? You can buy drinks from vending machines and traders. You think crafting jars didn't generate heat from the forge? That boiling the water didn't generate heat?

Bringing drinks from PoIs you loot isnt anymore worth while now than it was back then.

Guess what happens when you use the water to craft glue? Ya need more sand which then requires you to use the furnace to craft more jars which means yep more heat than what the dew collector would ever produce.

There is no risk with a dew collector especially once you get the mods to remove the need to boil water or if you purchase, craft or find a water filter mod for the helmet. Where is the risk then?

I think inventory management is/should be important for survival

Thats why I miss the other stuff like ore. I don't miss the brass/lead items tho

If anything I wish we had more core resources
7D2D does have inventory management. Do you know how often I sweat having to decide what to throw away halfway through any mid-size T3+ POI? :cautious:

Which is why I don't get too worked up over that particular aspect of the game. There are things I care a lot more about.

Now there's a game I haven't played in awhile. Last time I played I remember rage quitting after getting mauled by a bear!
lol...they updated it.
I keep meaning to go back but...that G__D___ bear
I played until I got the 500 days achievement...I think I was on day 535 when I got curbed stomped by a Moose.
still got nothing on that guy who collected every item in one bunker. I shake my head at that. wow. I have a clue how hard that was but no clue what drove him to?

The Long Dark is probably my favorite hardcore survival game. Absolutely love it. But I'm holding off on playing it again until the story mode is complete. So I tend to bounce back and forth between Icarus and 7DTD.
Icarus is another great game...love the nature damage

Sarcasm is great.. But...At this point im guessing your feelings are hurt and it would be best to openly say what you feel so it can be addressed and everyone can move on. Maybe then you wont feel the need to down vote every opposing view.
Already did. You called me a TFP blind fan and stupid for not "getting the facts" and downplaying "constructive criticism". Not gonna do that again. Maybe ask AI how i feel? Its laughable you address opposing views as you don't seem to accept any and go all godcomplex on how right you are and any opposing opinion is stupid and "just not getting it" .

Really at the end of the day TFP's were unhappy with the bucket and 4 square endless water trick. So buckets were removed. Then jars. What next water from the loot table??? The whole thing is a huge blunder.

I started playing the game on the original console version, and transitioned over to PC when A18 came out. I have close to 4,200 hours in the game. I've never installed any mods, although I have thought about some about, and will probably at some point try a few like Darkness Falls. I honestly don't care about glass jars disappearing when you use them.

When you look at it as a survival issue then yes it was.. but its more so now.
I end up with more jars of water in the first 3 days of a play through now than i did with the old jar system. just from loot.
Note: this forces a play style to be loot goblin

Then add the fact the dew collectors (a passive non heat producing item) now induces screamers.. You have to wonder.. did anyone even play test the idea???

When it comes to survival the only way to stay true to survival is to make drinking water a long task. Very much like some of the overhaul mods where it take around 38min real time to boil up one jar. This i know will make the community way more upset than no jars. But even with that you just fast track a water purifier mod or build more camp fires. Oh and bring in more screamers... But still there is a work around for everything.

That pretty much sums it up nicely... You either go full realistic or have some form of game mechanic that provides a challenge without it being a total time waster.

I will still say that the whole glass jar thing is the least of our worries just look at the current state of the game. Either way they go, with or without jars it wont matter to the community if its delivered in a way that works.
Its that bad that TFP's even start a reddit thread about jars.. not about the idiotic design decisions they made... Its sending them up the wrong path to developing a good game.
I'm not sure what version of the game you're playing that doesn't have buckets, but at least on the PC version they are still in the game. They can be crafted in your inventory with 7 pieces of iron. I've crafted them in version 1.0 and 2.0, and they are still in the latest experimental that was released on Friday, 2.2 b3.

Person’s Perspective
  • Emotions: They’re likely feeling frustrated, insecure, or even humiliated. If they can’t fully grasp the argument—due to complex terminology, abstract concepts, or lack of background knowledge—they might feel out of their depth. Being dismissed amplifies this, triggering defensiveness or anger. They may perceive the other person as condescending or unfairly authoritative, even if that’s not entirely accurate.

  • Understanding the Discussion: Their grasp of the topic is limited, which is why they struggle to articulate a rebuttal. They might sense they’re "losing" the argument, not because their point is inherently wrong, but because they lack the tools (vocabulary, logic, or facts) to engage effectively. Calling out a "God complex" becomes a fallback—a way to shift focus from their own limitations to the other person’s perceived arrogance. It’s less about the discussion’s substance and more about feeling dismissed or patronized.

  • Why the "God Complex" Accusation?: This label is an emotional counterpunch. They might not fully understand what a "God complex" entails (a psychological term implying someone believes they’re infallible or all-powerful), but they use it to express feeling belittled. It’s a way to regain some control in the exchange, framing the other person as the problem.

Screamers coming more often to investigate just because the player exists.
In some ways screamers are more common now, but in other ways they're less common. If a screamer spawns (and you kill them), there's like a 15-20 minute delay before you can start producing heat again. No more setting a bunch of campfires alight to chain-spawn screamers.
Zombies targeting lower blocks to have an easy way in immediately.
This is probably my least favorite change with 2.0. I don't mind so much that they can crouch and sneak through single block spaces, but I wish they still attacked the 2nd block first (so they would have to destroy the second block, then the bottom block like they did before). With them attacking the bottom block first, block health has effectively been cut in half for how much block damage a zombie (or zombies) have to do in order to get inside somewhere.

As i said God Complex. Even with writing self made up AI responses. Pretty pathetic. But its okey. You will still feel superior above anyone else. Its your only way. You cannot fail nor admit being wrong ever. A true God Complex. And more so a coward with a God Complex. As soon as you start losing the debate you "disengage" because "everyone is stupid". A real hero....

Oh and btw. you keep hiding behind "well it would be several forumpages to post my super smart AI prompts" after several requests for them. I would think that someone as "smart" as you would find a way to prove everyone wrong and post them. Hint: attachment, pastebin.com, hell there are countless ways of disclosing them. Just do it. Or scared? I am betting you are just making up excuses. (now would be the time to disengage :ROFLMAO: )

Well i was only following your instructions. Should i not do that?

Hmm im pretty sure you down voted one of my post where i admitted i was wrong.
Not sure why you would have done that unless it was in one of your mass down vote sessions and didnt read it.

It's NOT about the jars, but at the same time it IS about the jars. Let me explain. For me, it's more about what they did to replace the jars. It's that circular development thing they've been doing since A16 where they change things by creating a new system that's either immersion breaking or lacks logic. It's a change just for changes sake it seems sometimes.
