PC "Things I learned from watching the streamers" -- **SPOILER ALERT**

Things I learned:

1. Generating and loading into a new random gen world takes a loooong time.

2. Dont stray too far from spawn area. My usual blood lust that has me hunting for zombies with my starter wooden club might not be a good idea anymore.

3. Speaking of melee, I'm going to have to re-learn 5 yrs of muscle memory.

4. Be very careful and read all the descriptions of the attributes, perks, and their requirements. You don't want to waste important early points by putting them into an attribute because of a skill perk you want, only to find that the perk level you want isnt available until your lvl 40.

i wish the fun pimps would reinvest some time into the whole loot bag for zombies scenario and just revert it back to looting the zombie. to me, it feels more realistic to search the bodies vs "oh look, it dropped a bag".

does this new thing save some PC performance? no goreblocks lying around = more power to calculate something else?I don't know but it feels like it. I need to get my hands on this patch ASAP.
I can confirm it improves performance.

I modded these in myself in A14 and saw a noticeable difference on horde nights with tons of zeds around.

We lose a little realism for game play. Good decision.

Next you’ll be complaining that TFP should get rid of the xp display in the lower right because it always tells you when you’ve killed a zombie.
You know... I know you're playing me... but that idea doesn't sound half bad :D

Simply put the xp bar back in the character screen (where it belongs)...

I mean I'm definatly not the first who hated the xp bar... but before now it was only based on visuals and immersion... now I actually got a gameplay reason for hating it :D

Thx ^_^

My opinion from seeing things:

The farming changes, were OK as described right up until I saw RNG requirement of a hoe (it is not rocket science to put a seed in the ground).

The amount of meat per animal (especially given the speed of food drain versus amount of replenishment and amount of meat used) is IMO not even remotely fun. A boar or deer should feed 1 person for a several ACTIVE days (i.e days of hard work, (standing still should be around a week easily)). This is based on someone UNTRAINED in how to get the most meat from a kill. Someone TRAINED in getting and using all the meat possible and preserving it all correctly could get even more. From what I saw though, 1 boar or deer will net essentially less than half of an active day worth of hunger satiation. To me it seems either the bonus curve is too great while balanced to the top end of the curve (need to see someone fully perked to find out) or it is not balanced.

Virtually everything give some level of sickness (including canned foods and fresh crops).

The farming change of requiring a hoe is not just bad, it will be an immersion breaker for me. Seeds can't be planted without tilling soil. Then the world never evolved and thus not real, immersion broken. -- This to me is a bigger immersion breaker than 100 UI elements.

Just as POIs were curing my complaints by becoming more immersive in how they are designed and that they look breached, etc. New POIs are GREAT and seem much more like they had been attacked, not like everyone magically locked and boarded themselves in all at once from both inside and outside.

I want to agree with you Red, but I want more to play it first and see if I feel forced to build my character a certain way to keep from starving.

POI's look like some seriously dangerous fun! High Risk/High Reward! Perfect... I think. :)

From what I saw in an alpha 17 stream is explosions from dynamite or even a grenade launcher did not destroy objects like a house or even the ground. Explosions still kill the zombies but if people think they will be able to destroy a house or help in mining then it is currently bugged.

you now have to "learn" how to boil an egg??!<SNIP>

Well, that's one thing I've been on about with our group and they've pointed out similar things too...

Things that aren't 'logical' to a degree and things 'you should know how to do' and then the requirement to obtain the recipe for things...

Charred meat for instance... Anyone can do it, so boiling an egg should be on par with that. Similar to making a wooden blocks/frame or a ladder... But working with guns for example... Not everyone knows how to -- much less even how to maintain one or take one apart. BUT - once you know the basics its just figuring out how to take this gun apart as opposed to how you take apart one you already know... Cause apparently a lot of guns have a basic disassembly, then a detailed disassembly... Just saying.

For us this leads back to when you first spawn into the game... You've been given some items but where did they come from? You already know how to do somethings but somethings you have to learn - to a degree that's a given, but as noted above somethings you should already know how to do... From my POV - its like this...

You're born into the apocalypse! You are not like 'we are now' where you got to school and learn history, etc... You ARE going to be taught the very basics of survival and other things too... Now then if you were born in a White River Settlement then you should be given more training on how to survive.... But if the WRS people are the traitors/traders within the game, then you should be taught somethings along those lines. I also remember seeing some where that there are other types of settlements... But then again you could have been born into an isolated family...

But to get back to the charred meat - this would be something you've seen most of your life, or have watched it done to a degree... Hunting and field dressing your prey is an entire task in itself and the game is making it so you know how to do that... Boiled eggs and the basics of cooking, survival, defense, etc. should have been learned.

Watched TomGirlGamer play and every "garbage bag" had 2 candy tins and 2 panes of glass. Every car had 6 shotgun shells and 2 fishing weights... and tons of feathers. In maybe 10 minutes she had over 240 feathers, 3 flashlights, machete, hunting rifle...

Very easy to tell when zombies died, especially because it shows durability if you hit them again when they're dead.

There are other possibilities...

You were born into the Tuscon Federal Protectorate...one of the many waning enclaves of what was the United States. These outpost sanctuaries were protected by the military and other federal assets. As logistical lines eroded, stockpiles of food, medicine and technology dwindled. Production centers were well defended, but overtaxed by the need of many survivors. On occasion a facility would fall. Overrun by zombies, or through other misfortune; each pin removed from the map meant things got tougher.

People were still given specialized tasks with regard to food production, construction projects and security. Talent was often moved between the outposts in relatively safe convoys. When under particularly intense attacks, convoys were ordered to cut their losses even if that meant leaving someone behind. You were in one of those vehicles. With hundreds of miles between you and anything resembling the military you'd relied upon, you were now on your own. Your profession? Assistant construction planner with a particular penchant for record collation and supply recovery.

You weren't a farmer or a craftsman and the military held the guns. Your biggest asset is your ability to plan and adapt.

There are lots of small changes that will go unnoticed if players don't read the tooltips, the stats, and the journal entries. For example, regular bandages heal you and you can make them easily and use them to keep your max health up but most players expect them to still be mostly useless.
One of the big problems that players have is that they think they know the game and the items and do not look at item stats. At all.

This will fix itself over time as new players (who are actually new to the game) do look at item stats.

That is not the problem of people starting A17, but people in general. When i watch 7DTD youtubers or streamers, usually the people have their own style and play the game in their own way. This means they throw out many useful things, don't notice many things and forget about many others. How J.C. would say, that's how they roll ;)

Something no one has mentioned is the food poisoning on canned foods!!!! Spoilage has come to 7D2D.

Vultures keep flapping after they are dead.

GREAT GRAPHICS!!!

So, essentially, food is still irrelevant. Why pimps, why?

Same. It really should have remained in the character sheet. And knowing when a zombie is dead by seeing the xp bar or xp numbers is detrimental to immersion and a waste of interesting gameplay potential (like slightly randomizing zombies standing up like you said earlier). And even little things like this contribute to the fact that so many people see this game as an "xp grind".

Yeah, Day 2 forge and day 4 cement was pretty silly, so while I might quietly curse it, I respect the change.
If people don't want to feel the game is pointless past day 40, then they should be prepared to suffer a bit while they upskill.

Seems playing Dead Is Dead style won't be worthwhile anymore though. Got to learn to embrace the respawn.
Day 40? The game gets pointless by day 10-14 in vanilla, as by then you can be lv 40+ with steel tools and concrete. I never try to grind levels or anything in a16 but I am usually lv 40+ by day 7 or 8 without really trying.

I always look at item stats, when watching many streamers I keep asking myself: Why don't they use power attacks to destroy blocks with, when it sometimes does over triple the block damage. Mind you for the digging tools I hope they tone the stam costs down for power attacks considering it seems the bulk of the block damage comes from those.

I would not say the food changes are irrelevant.Early game certainly looks harder in terms of food.

Late game, who knows.
Late game you'd prob have the perks so u don't get hungry/thristy as fast, it also ups how much food/water they provide. Food becomes a non-issue once you get a decent farm going and a few perks into the farming thing, its just a struggle till that point as it should be. Besides canned food having a chance of food poisoning seems realistic, I mean you don't know how many weeks, months, possibly years that can of meat has been sitting on that shelf you looted. Food irl is generally pretty safe but people still get food poisoning randomly from food. Also the canned stuff having food poisoning has another reason: it gives you a point to lv cooking, as you can make dishes using said canned food thats massively better than just eating it out of the can.

I find alot of the whining going on is people who are going to have issues adjusting. Me? I've played mods where you don't get iron tools till 30 or 50, and no steel till 90 or 100. Protip: Use the damn trader!. How do I get by in those mods I mentioned? its by looting iron/steel tools or buying them off trader till I can make them. Then you got people whining about no forge till level 20.. well.. unless all the poi's changed there is at least 3 wilderness houses that can have working forges in them that show up in all biomes, on top of any trader. So its not very hard to find a forge if they explore.

Agreed, I have no issues with the changes to food etc.

I have not seen anything I especially dislike in A17, looks like fun to me.

If anything seems too easy after playing it, I will mod it accordingly :)
