Anyone else having a hard time with food and drink on this new update?

Just started a game. Ate and drank what they gave me at the start. By noon my stamina bar was cut in HALF! I had to eat like 10 charred meat before night time. Never found a cooking pot, so i had to set up a campfire by a lake and drink out of my one can.

Seems a bit much, no?

New food drain is just over double what it used to be. I think it's 0.011 now, which if I understand right means for every 100 points of stamina regened you lose 1.1% hunger. Too much.

I just started day 2, going to see how it goes. I don't use this word lightly but this is almost unplayable. Lets see how day 2 goes.

Yeah I had the same problem with food and water. Trader was 3.8km from spawn point. By noon food and water was down more than half. Purchased 2 hobo stew and golden rod tea from trader..by end of day 1 I'm down again to 78% food and water. They went a bit crazy with the food and water drain..add in the extra costs for perks, less zombie exp, nerf to sell prices which reduces exp gain from trader, insane travel distance for most trader quests and now the nerf to starting quest which gives 4 skill points instead of 5..well it seems they are messing up single player alot. Mods are the answer for single player because Vanilla is really becoming a pain to enjoy. It's feeling more and more like ravenhearst light lol

Some of the balancing changes from patch to patch lately...just...I don't get it. Not to say there haven't been good changes too, but... their best decision as of late has been increasing ease of modding lol.

Well I do see alot of nerfs that's for sure. But let's just bring it to TFP attention and ask them to balance it some more. All we can do.

Was just wondering if it was just me.

Eh, I noticed it lowering faster than usual, but with the massive stock at the trader + looting stuff from fridges and shamway boxes and a deer/rabbit I killed I never ran out of food to keep topped off. Logged out on day 4.

Yea Kage it wasn't you, they changed it, a LOT. I always stay in my starter area until about 13:00 gathering and this patch by the time I was ready to leave my max stam was down to about 40%. I spawned in a stack of chili dogs and went on my merry way to the trader. Sorry TFP but I ain't playing an obviously broken balance change.

Just finished day 2. I'm doing ok now. Found alot of animals and farms in a town but i was lucky. I don't mind dealing with food and thirst but even with all my kills and stuff, im still going to be having issues.

I guess I feel like food should be something you have to "go out and get" but if its the only thing your out getting the games flawed. I like it when im out and have to stop to on your travels to kill a deer or pick a farm but this is too strict atm. It's needlessly punishing.

Also food should not "always be an issue" Id say by mid game you have a farm and stuff, food should no longer be a problem, and thats ok. I dont wanna play food gather simulator, i wanna play a zombie horde base defense game.

Lol they really cant win can they? So the start of the game is tougher and more focused now. Food and water are now a priority, no more "make a bow oh theres a deer/lamb thing twang 3 days food"

Its now a challenge just to not die of thirst or starvation. Day 3 and no cookpot, only just found a water source. It definitely makes the first few days more interesting and you cant take food/water for granted anymore.

Surely thats the point here, making the game more challenging for people used to having too much too soon!

I usually play pure vanilla, but this new food drain is way over the top. Melee a handful zombies,

and i am down to almost half of max stamina. No thanks.

disclaimer: I have not played b231 yet.

However; I keep hearing players say throughout all A17e builds that they are having trouble finding cooking pots early. Are you guys not going into any POIs or searching the sinks and stoves in the burnt corner buildings in the burn biomes? I don't think there has been a single save that I haven't had a cooking pot (or 3-4 of them) by early morning day 2. Most of the time I have multiple by 12:00 the first day?...

Getting food and cooking equipment isn't the issue. It's more like: Eat a meat stew before clearing a poi, and eat one after

you cleared it. And another one once you run back home. I am exaggerating a bit, but that is what it feels like.

I'm going into this positively.

I'm thinking maybe this is a good step!

Now we really have to focus on staying fed and building is going to be a little harder.

I kind of like that idea.

The only thing I'd ask TFP to add is a completely different set of rules for "Beginner" mode.

Anyone playing the game for the first time should have a very easy time of things.

Once they get used to it, they can dig in and earn what they get.

Yeah... the more I think about it the more I'm loving this new change.

Maybe a little more focus on mid-late game and little less on early game. I think games are best when they start off easy and ramp up the difficulty. We have all played the same early game 1000x, do we need it slower?

Even if you say "yes" to that that's fine but i was really not having a lot of fun with half stamina by 12pm. Seems some people really want a different game than I do. And that's fine too i guess, just here to let TFP know I personally think the food/drink nerf went way to far.

Yep, drink I think is ok, it could do with a little bit less, but if you're working hard you'd probably be drinking a fair bit - but the food situation is way too much.

I don't mind how tough it is, though I haven't played past the first day, so I can't tell whether it is sustainable or not, but, perhaps, that weather protection thing you get should also apply to food and water.

As for cooking pots, they are so plentiful that I can't help but think you didn't make a beeline to places with ovens and cabinets.

From just doing the beginner quest line, I was down 22% stamina just from 5 minutes of gameplay. I was constantly below 50% after that point during day 1 even after eating the following:

3 charred meat

starter chili

salmon

dog food

I did not put any points into the food perk.
