I wouldn't really support something that kills you just because you don't stay in the area. I also don't like the idea of not being able to make my own horde base. It's fine for a challenge mode or a mod, but I wouldn't want it to be a normal thing. I suppose as a setting, but not sure that it's worth it.
 
In any case, several people have already suggested some kind of "defend the fort" job.

The idea is pretty popular in its basic form, however I don't think many people would like the instant kill feature you're proposing, since it goes against the "sandbox soul" of the game.

A much simpler and common solution would be: if you leave the area or fail to defend the fort, you fail the mission.
But you can still run away with your tail between your legs and save your life! 😅
 
Why should death be an automatic result of failing the mission? You already have that risk in any mission you do. Just because zombies destroy an object I am tasked with protecting, that failure should not lead to my death.
