PC Missunderstandings, we need a definition

I suggest a new journal entry to explain the various mod term applications. Where is Gazz when you need him?

Ahh, so moderately many modern moderate mod terms.

How about using context? Or just use a synonym that applies to one but not the other?

If you call it an attachment, even if it's called a mod in game, people will understand what you're talking about.

If you call it a mod as it is in game, and it is established that the discussion is about weapon attachments, people should understand what is being discussed.

Conversely, I believe making up esoteric terms only known by a select in group just makes things more confusing instead of concise. Remember people are going to have to learn these terms, and those a part of the out group will not know them.

A colleague of mine who works on our employers AI efforts, said to me once, that the biggest challenge they had (back in the day) in teaching machines to understand natural language was because our languages were so imprecise.

If I type the word live, did I use the verb or the adjective? (Did I pronounce it with a strong or weak "i"?)

If I pronounce the phoneme "red", did I say the name of a colour or was I referring to a book I have (in which the word spelt "read" can be both a verb and a noun). Try and get a computer to understand all the overlaps, rule exceptions and vagaries of human language is a big challenge, so it's no surprise we also trip up on it frequently.

Hell, even my favourite TV series of all time, Star Trek, starts each episode with a grievous split infinitive in its opening monologue!

naw, that was just the 60's version of teasing the viewer about what Kirk was going to do to any cute aliens he came up on :D

To topic: yeah. unfortunate that item attachments got called "mods".

Also too bad that xpath "mods" weren't "xmods" out of the gate.

Well long talk short outcome, until now i used "Imod" only in 2-3 Threads, and Gmod not once, because of the context it was clear what i meaned, or i want to be so specific that i said modlet or modlet collection.

So i keep gmod in memory, but i guess imod is the only difference i really use, (often)

What did those mean again..? No really, I read them but I already forgot. Not that I couldn't check the thread, but I'm not going to ... just going to tsay confuzzled :)

So what is a game modification? An item is part of the game.

So modding blocks is bmod? :)

Modding quests are qmods?

We need an inheritance scheme here! imod and bmod extends gmod, but qmod is separate for reasons. ;)

Sorry if you meaned that as joke. For that case, "XD"

Why does the word Mercedes have the letter "e" three time, pronounced differently all three times? I'd say it's because the English language is asinine but then someone would point out it's a German car....

Emil Jellinek, an Austrian automobile entrepreneur who worked with DMG, created the trademark in 1902, naming the 1901 Mercedes 35 hp after his daughter Mercedes Jellinek.
