Are these getting reintroduced? They were an important base defense block, looked cool as hell and where fairly well balanced in A16

Regarding upside down rotation...

This was an exploit?!?

Guess i gave TFP too much credit, I honestly thourght it was allowed to be used upside down intentionally for QOL and making the game play more fun

Sucks that they are gone. They were a staple of 7DTD for me.

I never did the upside down thing - i didn't like the way it looked. Besides if that really were the reason - they could have just removed advanced rotation for them.

Moats and fall pits will never be quite the same without them. :(

 
Was so passionate about log spikes that made a guide dedicated to them years ago, now they only exists in some pois or something and not craftable. A shame, a cheap, well looking and balanced defense.

 
They caused problems with pathing and looked really bad in how zombies interacted with them and since functionally they were very similar to wood spikes they decided to remove them. I think they still exist in the creative menu so they probably just need a recipe and you can get them back.

Gazz finally posted his reason.

He felt they were too OP and basically made a mockery of the whole idea of the game.

The upside down thing was just icing on the cake.

We won't be seeing them come back, though.....

.... I'm hoping we'll get a vanity Wood Spike block for building with.

I'd like to update my Wooden Palisade among other builds for A17.

They are still in the XML as well if you want them back.

I think they need adjusting. Wood ones need to upgrade to metal or something.

I just copied the A16 code and they worked fine.

 
They caused problems with pathing and looked really bad in how zombies interacted with them and since functionally they were very similar to wood spikes they decided to remove them. I think they still exist in the creative menu so they probably just need a recipe and you can get them back.

They do exist Roland, not sure if all upgrades but seen today them on top of trader walls, some kind of medieval style trader base with palisade.

 
The thing about them being still in the game files won't really help much. If they don't intend to use them anymore - the models and texture files for them will eventually be gone completely anyway. So there's no real sense manually putting them in temporarily until then. Might as well just get used to not having them now instead of prolonging the inevitable. :(

No they won't.

That shape is used for other things and they don't have unique textures.

Even if TFP removed them from the code, it would be very easy to make your own.

You could even choose your own textures.

Might be fun.

Calling bull♥♥♥♥ on problems with pathing, could just clone the code for the ♥♥♥♥ty spikes (normal wod spikes, ♥♥♥♥ty spikes is my nickname for them over the last few alphas because... they have been)

As far as looking bad when zombies interacted with them, can agree to that but that's somthing that needs fixing and not just removing the block. (Should note they looked fine interacting with them upside down because they were flat, very easy to change the collision on the top to also be flat.)

And i asked if they were comming back, i meant to the vanilla game not 'how do i mod these back in'.

Yep, you're right on the textures. Curious - what other items use the spike shape? I just can't think of anything off the top of my head that does. I'm sure i'm probably missing something obvious. :p

Can belive this, the game has gotten less and less fun since Gazz was allowed to 'balance' things.

i'm totally agree with you, remove those traps has no sense, I would love them to come back

Yes please the game is so unfun now that I can’t have an army of swimming zombies attacking my base during blood moons. Everyone knows that crawling zombies are the best zombies. If you don’t add back spikes I demand all zombies be changed to crawlers.

How will I ever feel like a big swinging ♥♥♥♥ without 64 crawlers attacking my base at once? Stop emasculating me.

U understand that people want to play in different ways? If u want play without the log spikes, do it! but cant see the problem giving people the possibility to play in other ways

I give you the TL DR up front. Explain what problem the log spikes solve if you want them added back in.

Don’t you see that I was responding to a specific post? Creating an army of crawlers isn’t fun. It’s easy mode. If spikes were still in the game you could create a field of spikes and a platform base and never have to worry about zombies. That is not the game the devs want to create. If there is a specific problem that A17 creates that the absence of log spikes exacerbates, you should clearly state what that problem is. The devs might be responsive and offer a solution. Asking for the return of a block that did not positively contribute to game play and is universally exploited is just whinging that will have little effect on the devs. If you want changes, you need to be persuasive and explain the gameplay style, the problem, and maybe even offer a solution. Crying that the devs took your favorite toy away accomplishes nothing.

More to the point claiming that the game isn’t fun without log spikes is bull♥♥♥♥ and that is what I was responding to.

TFPs don't care if we present solutions... I have given them quite a few!

(make them only do multiplier fall damage; reduce limb damage; make nothing beeing buildable on top of them; make them ressource intensive; make a 3rd tier of steel, which deals as much dmg as normal iron in a16; make zombies attack them if they can't immediatly get to you;

let them break every time they deal damage)

There are SO MANY possibilities to do this! But they do not care. That is something TFPs have shown over and OVER AND OVER again.

we have seen this over and over, so me saying that this is the case with log spikes really isn't a stretch!

 
Someone made a modlet to add them back in (sorry, I forget who). Look around the forums Game Mods section.
