Q: How do I play the V2.0 Storms Brewing update on console?
A: V2.0 Storms Brewing is currently experimental. While experimental, it is only available to PC players that opt into the experimental build. Once it reaches stable status, everyone on PC and consoles will download it automatically. So you won’t need to do anything special to get it.
Q: Can I continue my V1.4 game on V2.0?
A: No. With V2.0 installed, you will not be able to play any saved games started on V1.0-V1.4.
Q: After I update to V2.0, can I return to V1.4 to continue my V1.4 game?
A: This is the big reason I’m making this FAQ. The Console Edition is not like Steam, where you can select an older build to download at any time. On consoles, once your device is updated to V2.0, you will not be able to return to V1.4. So you probably want to wrap up your V1.4 games now, before V2.0 is released to consoles.
Q: How is it allowed that an update will break my old saved games?
A: Microsoft and Sony allow breaking saved games for games with a beta label. This status is indicated when you launch the game, in the disclaimer which specifies, “This Title is Pre-Release software.”
Q: Can I stop the game from updating so I can keep playing my V1.4 game?
A: You can disable automatic updates on your PlayStation or Xbox. However from what I’ve been able to determine, game updates are required on Xbox, and users report disabling them on PlayStation is not reliable.
I’m sure people will have strong opinions about this reality, but I wanted to get the information out there before V2.0 goes out to consoles.
