How long until you guys unlock the loot cap?

Hi,

Are you able to do a hotfix to just unlock the loot cap now until you make the major update to change the things you mentioned in the Town Hall?

Also is there a way you can keep your major updates from breaking saves. On console this is very annoying so I had to shut off all updates. On PC in Steam they can choose which version we can't

Thanks

"A way", no. If there was, they'd be doing it. But each major release changes things like skill trees, blocks; those cause major issues when not updated properly. Every patch breaks the old in unique ways, so there's no way to make it universal.

Okay then they need to finalize the core of the game and quit changing the main systems and just add to them in future patches like new POIs etc

Also to address how the Devs wish they made the game different they couldve just made a whole new game instead of reworking the original version into what it is now.

A hotfix is something used to fix a problem that can't wait until a normal update. Loot caps aren't a bug. They'll get updated whenever they do the next version. If they aren't in 2.2 EXP (I didn't read the patch notes on it), then they might be in 2.3 or may still get added in 2.2 if finished before 2.2 is stable. Things will get added in new versions as they are finished.

And the game is not final until 4.0. If you can't deal with starting new games, then don't play an unfinished game. Wait until 4.0 when it is finished. Saves are going to break for 3.0 and 4.0 (not a guarantee, but extremely likely). They may break for minor updates, but that's not too common. It's what you have to accept if you're going to play games that are still being developed. They try to avoid breaking saves, but when you add enough new content and changes, there's little you can do.

The old version of the game wasn't a finished version of the game. Do you suggest that they stop making a game and leave it unfinished just because you like certain things in that version that were placeholders or unfinished and to make a new game instead? That's kind of crazy.

Its just a matter of when a developer plans on making a video game there is usually an outline of how they originally want the game to be. The changes to the main systems like Zombie AI, Learn by Doing to magazines.....etc shows me they deviated from their original game design. You cant finish a game if you are always changing the main systems because suddenly you dont like them.

As far as the save games I understand since they keep changing the main systems and adding new systems.

Just trying to say they need to settle on a game design core system and then add stuff after that doesnt cause save game breaks like adding new POI designs etc.

I'd just like to point out that if you turn "Biome Progression" OFF (you can do that on console, right?), that will disable loot caps as well.

There are a number of assumption you make that aren't very accurate there. First, they had a plan for the game - see the kickstarter goals for a basic view of that plan. The early alphas didn't have anywhere near all of those things in the game, so the game felt more sandbox and more survival than it does after more of those goals were added to the game. Remember that unlike games that don't allow early access, this game is in constant development. Things get added as placeholders so you can play the game even though those things aren't planned to be left in the game. Other things are tried and found to not work well with their plans and so are changed to work better or removed. That's part of game development. Game development isn't a static thing where you make a goal and never make changes. You may not see it in games that don't let you play them during development, but it happens in every game. AI is something that will obviously get adjusted and improved as more things are added to the game.

As far as your statement that you can't finish the game if you keep making changes, that's true. That doesn't mean you can't make changes, though. Sometimes those changes are necessary. Sometimes they are just what the devs want. However, I'll also point out that trying to get devs to add LBD back or jars back or anything else that was removed years ago also means they are making changes and not finishing the game. You can't ask for things to go back the way they were and then complain that they aren't finishing the game because they are making changes. Even something as simple as removing loot caps. You want them to make a change. That takes time, even if it's something like loot caps that probably doesn't take very much time to remove. Any time someone asks for a change, they are also asking that a delay to the completion of the game is added. If anyone asks for a change, they can't also complain about the game not being finished because of changes being made to it.

As far as saves, it isn't about settling on a game design. Even if they never changed anything and only added new things to the game, that can still break saves. And in many cases, in order to add new things to the game, they have to make changes. Until the game is complete, major updates will break saves. It's just how it works when developing a game and adding significant amounts of new things and changes into the game. There are only 2 major updates remaining. It's hardly worth being upset about at this point. If we were still back in A10 and had 14+ major updates requiring new saves still to go, then there'd be a decent reason to complain about it. With only 2 left, it's hardly worth complaining. At this point, the time it would take to find a way to avoid breaking those two saves would add so much extra time to finish the game that it wouldn't be worth it.

Anyhow, to be back on the topic of loot caps, they were removed in 2.2 EXP.
