I needed a nap, but went and found that my computer has google Drive on it already, and after just a short time, my friend and I got him up and running with my WXT world, and of course, naturally, we had to test it a bit to make sure, and...
I can now share my world/map with everyone I know, so things are going to go much easier.
Playing in a party is easier and faster than playing single. There are a multiple reasons for this:
That you have 3 instead of one quest available before going back to the trader and that you can do quests almost 3 times faster than alone makes a huge difference. Another difference is that 3 people can specialize much better. As a single player you need to distribute your points, in a group one is the miner and cook, one makes sure you get workstations and vehicles faster and another does the farming. All of them are much better at their jobs than the single player can be.
Don't let your experiences on MP servers cloud your judgment. I play multiplayer with friends on a private server and I play singleplayer sometimes. And multiplayer is still at least double as fast and easy as single player.
Maybe you didn't distribute magazines and books to the right person when you played? We usually put up containers in our base and sometimes even on the streets in front of a quest POI just to dump magazines and books in there so that one of the other players who needs that specific magazine or book gets to read them. Then it doesn't matter anymore that I might find one of "his" magazines, eventually he will still get it.
Among the many other problems we had, we allowed exactly the wrong guy to be the one to coordinate our efforts. We trusted the guy to know what the heck he was doing, and it wasn't until I caught him feeding all the cooking and seed books to his GF (she had 91 cooking and 20 seeds) when I found out, and I was the cook/farmer/base builder. I didn't even have the ability to make Bacon & Eggs (level 10 cooking), and then we realized that with him in the party, we each had to look out for ourselves. Teamwork kinda fell apart, that same guy held himself to good to build or farm, and as the party financial guy, trade master, we got to day 5 and had not a single dew collector...Turned out, he knew how to play, just not alpha 21
For myself, I'm still learning the game, but the husband and wife left off playing the basic game to go play on the modded server, and now they still don't know how to reach hoard night w/o dying! They got so used to being handed everything right as they spawned, that they didn't need to learn how to play. They learned about 'Creative Mode', and have just been using that as a crutch. I don't play with cheats, because I figure that playing with all the easiest settings already makes the game easy enough to learn. Now, when they have questions, and the same world map that I play on, I can really be able to share and aid them, when they want to try to play legit.
Both have their own challenges, and I get that not everybody likes the survival aspect of the game, but if the husband is willing to try legit, I'm willing to help. In todays game, he has already gotten infected by charging into a room with two zombies, and at one point had a sprained arm and a sprained leg. We have not yet reached 2200 hours yet on day 1. I have identified his problem as the 'charge right in' mentality, but he has to learn not to do that on day one, while playing legit, cause he is way weaker without the cheats.
That being said, if he play alongside me and sees me reaching hoard night w/o dying, then I hope that he will start listening...
I'm more then willing to either play alongside with them, or just watch and advise.
