🙀GRANDPA'S TOP TEN RANKED: Items that have been removed.

Grandpa Minion

Scavenger
1. calipers
2. combiner
3. zombies: cheerleader, stripper, miner, cowboy, farmer, football
4. deeper ground
5. smell

6. clothes
7. traps: log spikes and barb wire
8. raw iron
9. jars
10. blunderbuss

I ranked calipers as #1 for multiple reasons:
calipers to me was the first major removal that was taken away, mainly due to the effect it had on game play.
calipers where a rarity you had to travel around the map to get them.
Players litterally competed to gain them and planned their routes to do so.
calipers where not a "dime a dozen" so getting them was actually an accomplishment, especially early game.

I forgot about the blenderbuss. It was fun
yeah it was great for many reasons..
Early game accessibility - The blunderbuss was typically one of the first firearms players could craft or find making it feel like a significant upgrade from melee weapons and primitive tools when you were just starting out.
Satisfying feel - Despite its limitations, it had a chunky, weighty feel when firing that many players found satisfying.
The visual and audio feedback made it feel impactful even when the damage numbers didn't always reflect that.
Nostalgia factor - It fit perfectly with the post-apocalyptic scavenging theme. Finding or crafting this crude makeshift firearm felt authentic to the survival setting - like something you'd actually cobble together from spare parts.
Gateway weapon - It served as a stepping stone that got players excited about finding better firearms.
That progression from blunderbuss to proper rifles and shotguns felt rewarding.
Scrap availability - The materials needed to craft and maintain it were usually easier to find than components for higher-tier weapons, making it reliable even if not powerful.
Crowd control - While weak against tougher zombies it could still help thin out groups of weaker ones, especially in the early horde nights when you didn't have better options.
Many players developed a fond attachment to it precisely because it was their trusty (if unreliable) companion during those vulnerable early game hours when every zombie felt threatening.

For me, it's engines with different power ratings. There was no better feeling than finding an engine better than what you had and putting it on your minibike

Just to lag, crash, then find your bike underneath the road when you logged back in.

So pipe weapons?

Parts Quality should have made the list. Probably like the thing I miss the most outside of temperature followed by darker nights.

i would definately combine clothes-temperature go hand in hand.
darker nights is definately a good one, now that you mentioned it i would replace raw iron for darker nights, no doubt.
Enhanced Horror Atmosphere: The darkness creates a much more intense survival horror experience.
When you can barely see beyond your flashlight beam every sound becomes terrifying and every shadow could hide a zombie.
This amplifies the game's core survival tension.
Increased Challenge: Darker nights force players to be more strategic about lighting, resource management, and movement.
You have to plan torch placement, manage battery life for flashlights, and think carefully about when to venture out versus hunker down.
More Realistic Survival Feel: Pitch-black nights feel more authentic to a post-apocalyptic scenario.
It makes sense that without power grids, nights would be genuinely dark and dangerous.
Resource Management Depth: Dark nights make light sources valuable resources rather than conveniences.
Players must craft torches, find batteries, or set up generator systems, adding layers to the survival mechanics.
Tactical Gameplay: Darkness creates interesting risk-reward decisions.
Do you risk moving at night for better loot spawns, or wait for dawn? How do you balance stealth versus visibility?
Base Building Motivation: When nights are truly dark, having a well-lit, secure base becomes much more satisfying and necessary rather than just cosmetic.

I loved it when raw iron was on your list! I can't believe you removed it!! :p

I wrote it on some other thread recently, but can`t keep from repeating again that I loved the sound of blunderbuss early in the morning, when my teammate was out, clearing some zeds around the fence.

And I was just jumping from the sound of this small cannon. Good times !

Remember when the only book we had was for the minibike one and what sort of emotion it gave us, like we`re gonna conquer the whole map sooner than we thought, no matter first day or 54th ?

Wasn`t bad, it can`t be just one book though, as irl. Moving and adding things are good or bad, no doubt some are missed. Hope till gold version we get some taste of the past.

So pipe weapons?
many people felt pipe weapons where a slap in the face downgrade including me when they replaced the blunderbuss with them.
example: just like what at @beerfly just stated.
Visual and Audio Appeal The blunderbuss had a distinctive, satisfying visual and audio design - the big boom and visual impact when firing felt more exciting than the pipe weapons. Many players felt pipe weapons looked and sounded less impressive, reducing the fun factor.

Running the 3-4 blunderbuss in belt was fun, but pipe weapons make way more sense and allow players to use something else than shotguns early game.
