PC Do you guys like this new leveling system ?

I am curious, do you guys find it fun to play ? For me, leveling is very boring. It reminded me on diablo 2 (one of my favourite games), pure hack'n slash. But i dont find it fun here. Oh look, a zombie. thats 500 experience. 19 more to kill and i am going to levelup.

I loved using pistol to improve pistol skills, using axe to level up block damage and so on... Is it changed because forum complained or devs are just trying out something new?

Got bored after few hours playing solo :(

Lots of post about this, many agree with you, many don't.

I do agree with you, I'm having fun playing the game with friends and have abandoned SP sadly. But the joy of finding things RNG and such is gone. Many are saying that the gun mods and magazines replace the joy for them, I however find them to be "meh" at best. I still like the game, but get bored after level 100. I haven't played the new build yet because I'm work, I'm hoping that it helps a bit, or that stable will. Otherwise, I fear, this may be a short lived alpha for me until mods come out or the next alpha brings back some things I miss.

Just my opinion.

to each their own i guess, i dont look at it like oh i need to kill this many zombies to level up. i just go out scavenge and kill zombies along the way then i go do quest and kill zombies when i have to. and the levels come super fast. but then again im not the type of person that has to be max level and have everything in 2 real days like i could in alpha 16, i dont mind if it takes a little longer.

it takes way to long to get something done here in game. Not all of us can play 24/7 tell me how much u can accomplish in 1 hour of gameplay ?

pretty much nothing and thats not rewarding at all.

so the game should be dumbed down and made easy because you can only play for a hour?

they didnt make it harder they made it just take longer and tedius ... i see u cant see the diffrence

I like it... well not really.

Its fine... but only because I edited the xml to make the levelrequirements

1-1-1-1-1-1-15-15-15-30

this means that the op perks (like jumping higher and stuff) are levelgated to level 15 and 30. The rest, like the forge and other basic needs can be crafted if I spend enough points. Without the levelgating, its okay.

Its not A16 learning-by-doing great... but I can live with it, if they remove levelgating.

Nope.

Been playing a much better stompynz system that allows me freedom of choice and feels natural, WITHOUT the artificial gating.

A17 artificially slows down progression. That's not difficulty, that's just monotony. If anything, the new leveling system is a massive "dumbing down" of the game.

I love it.

The game finally wasn't boring after only 2 days of playing. It kept me enthralled all the way to level 100, and nearly 120 hours. The game was much harder too! Jolly good show.

Of course I like the leveling by doing thing more- but not how it was done in 16. It was too easy- too fast- not gated ENOUGH!

But I like deep long lasting progression systems- most people want purple epics just for logging into warcraft- so most would disagree with my ideas on how things should be done.

I'm a zombie- I have more patience then you. I can wait ALLLLLLLLLLL year long for you to step into my POI... and when you do baby... I am gonna eat that brain! NEURONS ARE YUMMY!!!!

HISS!!!!!

No. The level gates are pretty bad, but even if they were removed I would still miss skills. I can understand if TFP didn't want to gate anything behind having done any one specific activity, but they could still have them just as a passive increase to your stats over time.

Initially no.

Now, as they're retuning XP to have a smaller gap between the absolute "ideal" fast levelup (spam zombie killing) and other activities, it feels like even if i want to advance quickly, i don't HAVE to do a certain activity.

Did i like being able to get an early forge and concrete in A16? sure...but i didn't enjoy spam upgrading and using my wrench on cars to hit construction tools 30 and 60.

A17 lets me play with a wide variety of activities...questing, Zhunting, foraging, crafting, building, resource gathering, and still progress at variable, but not TOO variable rates...and I don't have to do one activity over and over to reach a certain threshold...I can choose how I want to spend my time more freely (yes you COULD just level up and spend points on skills in A16, but those points also competed for the more expensive perks that you needed)

So while i was resistant at first, the more they tune each build of A17, the better it gets at accomplishing what i can only assume the goal is: to let people advance in what they want, by playing however they want.

Is it slower? sure...absolutely, and TBH, B208 felt pretty bad pre-level-20, but the abundance (though definitely RNG) of early iron (or even steel) tools and the B221 boost to the stone axe in gathering makes pre-level-20 feel much more tolerable...its not great, but it isn't meant to feel great.

The game feels like it has a better curve of progression...it also has a slower curve of progression, which will help it stay interesting for longer.

Would i still like a bonus for mining other than anemic xp and resources? well yeah sure, but as a replacement system, i can certainly deal with what A17 brings, and can enjoy that I CAN use zombie killing to be better at mining, and mining to be better at cooking and crafting, and and base building to be better at zombie killing IF I SO CHOOSE.

I have not been able to play B221 yet, but in previous A17e it was not the CAN it was the HAD TO I look forward to seeing if that is not the case anymore. Curious still why TFPs only nerfed Zombie XP instead of that and BUFF harvesting XP.

The levelling system / gating is awful compared to A16. No sense of progression, kill some Z's and you can learn how to cook, make a bandage etc.

I don't mind levelling systems or gating when done right unlike here. Kingdom Come Deliverance gets it right. You want to level up in pick pocketing then get good at doing that then pump points into it. No logic here in the 7DTD system.

The devs are hellbent on making some FO4 hybrid clone with lots of other tropes shoe horned into the game. They had a reasonably well rounded system that just needed fixes and additional content within A16. Instead they've ripped up the mechanics and made it into a FPS action shooter.

It "feels like" they did both. they didn't directly buff harvesting xp, but harvesting feels faster (especially super early with stone axe) - so slightly more resources translates into slightly more xp...and zombie xp wasn't nerfed too badly...700 zombies are down to 550, and 1200s are down to 800 (also, the khaki shorts, grey tank top heavyset zombie is now in the 800 category instead of his former spot in the low xp category). I'd imagine it was because several changes they implemented were to alleviate the tedium and frustration of super early game, so slowing down the early game made more sense than allowing you to blast thru it even faster (changes like mods in traders, increased harvesting with early tools, the buffing of basic attacks, and the found pistols and shotguns being significantly stronger feeling).
