PC Do you guys like this new leveling system ?

i find a17 is quite boring. Waiting for the bigger mods to come up (starvation, undead legacy, etc..) , because i don't want to put up with the small modlets. but it seems that almost all people prefer to use modlets than play unmodded a17. Would be interesting to see if anybody prefers playing a17 unmodded so far...(maybe a new poll, @roland?)

Nope.
Been playing a much better stompynz system that allows me freedom of choice and feels natural, WITHOUT the artificial gating.
What is this system?

Where can i find out about her?

Can you post a link please? I would be very interested.

I like it just fine but I also like automatically progressing skills just fine as well. When I play I focus on objectives that I set for myself such as:

I want to have 400 spikes by the end of today

I want to have 80 flagstone blocks by the end of today

I want to sell this crate of stuff to the trader today and start a quest.

I want to start a garden today.

My objective is never I want to be to level # by the end of today. Therefore, I never worry about whether the activity I am doing is netting me the most xp or not. I just play to reach my objectives and on the day when I make my spikes if I am at the same level that evening as I was in the morning, so be it.

As long as I have daily objectives I'm having fun and I let levels take care of themselves. So either system or a hybrid would be just great.

I really enjoy purchasing perks and noticing the difference. I love finding (and now buying) mods for my tools and weapons and enhancing them.

Now, full disclosure...I do tend to focus on xp when I notice my xp bar about to complete and in those cases I shift in my thoughts and go find a few zombies to kill to push me over to the next level-- and I hate that. I would mod the xp bar off the screen so I never have to see how close I am to leveling up.

Lol I never even noticed the bar.

Using reds ui now anyway, but never saw the xp in vanilla.

Not sure if he's released it yet; we are balance testing a few mods ATM, but so far loving it.

I don't hate it... as long as there is some way to improve in a game, I'm generally happy. However, I am still hoping that perks will be perks, and eventually we will also get a set of specialized skills to progress in.

Then again, I have only played single player in these experimental builds, so whether they be perks like we have or if it was progression by doing, I would still try to be as balanced as I can. I really don't know the impact of this system on multiplayer where a team of players decide to specialize to spread out responsibilities.

It reminded me on diablo 2 (one of my favourite games), pure hack'n slash.
I thought this same thing. The leveling and skill tree feel like an old ARPG style. Get so many points and now you have a new ability. I don't really care for it much in this game but I just throw it in there with the other stuff I don't care for in this game and move on. I do prefer the "Use the skill to get better at the skill" system of leveling and I hope that's what they eventually come up with. Or I'll find a mod. Sounds like StompyNZ has already made one. :)

I am curious, do you guys find it fun to play ? For me, leveling is very boring. It reminded me on diablo 2 (one of my favourite games), pure hack'n slash. But i dont find it fun here. Oh look, a zombie. thats 500 experience. 19 more to kill and i am going to levelup.
I loved using pistol to improve pistol skills, using axe to level up block damage and so on... Is it changed because forum complained or devs are just trying out something new?

Got bored after few hours playing solo :(
I dont dislike it. But I agree that it is a bit bland compared to the old skill leveling system in it's current state. But I am holding out, hoping they have more of a plan for it that will somehow make it better than it was before.

it takes way to long to get something done here in game. Not all of us can play 24/7 tell me how much u can accomplish in 1 hour of gameplay ? pretty much nothing and thats not rewarding at all.
I play 2 hours a night with my buddy who gets up super early for work. We're on day 16 and I'm level 80. You can get a ton accomplished.

A16 had me uninstall, it was for me a dull and shallow experience. You spammed skills risk free to get good enough to make stuff that allowed you to then go farm zombies.

Reward was totally divorced from risk. It make any successes I had feel shallow and largely irrelevant. If I could make great gear by just camping and craft/scrap/craft in a cave for a few days, then go rampage in steel gear why not just edit myself to the stats I want and spawn the gear I want out of the gate? It made advancement a reward for tedium not something you earned by anything meaningful.

The increased crafting/farming/mining speed is good, I'm okay with zombie XP reduction. At this point a small XP buff to non-combat stuff and you've got a pretty even advancement rate that still requires risks to get fast rewards.

In A16 I just bolted to steel tools and guns. It almost wasn't worth making anything in iron because I had steel by a couple days in. Now I've got a more reasonable rate of progression, at least in terms of what I enjoy.

I don't like it, but i can play with it. In the end, xp is just that, and what the

game offers of stuff to do matters more.

All the bars stick out and scream “Look away from the world and notice ME”.
Maybe your wife dancing nude next to you is saying the same thing?

I will not tell who gave me that info. Agent GUP221 your secret is safe!

to each their own i guess, i dont look at it like oh i need to kill this many zombies to level up. i just go out scavenge and kill zombies along the way then i go do quest and kill zombies when i have to. and the levels come super fast. but then again im not the type of person that has to be max level and have everything in 2 real days like i could in alpha 16, i dont mind if it takes a little longer.
Agreed, I try not to pay too much attention to my level outside of when I'm trying to get a certain perk or level gated item/skill so I just go out and play and level up fairly fast anyhow.

I do agree.

It sends the message that gaining levels is to be the primary goal and I don't think so. There is more than that.
