I do agree that the EXP bar is both useless and contradictory. No reason for it to be there, and of all the things that would likely be permanently added to the HUD that's probably about the least helpful. Pointless clutter at its most obvious.
I have zero problem with not having food/water on there all the time btw. It tells you when you need to know and it takes literally 3 seconds to check if you're unsure, so I think it's fine as it is.

I'd also like to emphasize whoever said a few days ago that sleepers should not be 100% guaranteed in every building for various obvious reasons. It's been discussed and generally agreed with(I think) but I wouldn't want the idea to get lost in all the shuffle about Juarez's whore's horses and whatnot. :)
I like the XP bar. It's rather small and doesn't really clutter much of anything. I like any kind of status I can get.

Roland is a King among common men. He is the benevolent law giver. The Godfather of the forum. He is the apple in Gods eye. The Walrus, the Pied Piper and the Tambourine Man rolled into one. He is the ♥♥♥♥ing Batman! May his rule be long, and his days unnumbered!
So Say We All.
Dear lord. Where can I get a dose of this kind of attention? Roland? You're head still fit through doors or is that why you're always making a face in those profiles? Head keeps getting stuck? :D

lol

Yeah... Roland's pretty aight. kinda...

Hey there , I will be straight. Because devs are always working, trying new stuff, or making an old stuff better, they cannot give an exact information on what is going on every day , or every week. Its a complex game, its a new way of making things that doesn`t exist in the game world and trust us, from the name of all forum and the devs, they are trying.

Some stuff though, that is posted here is just a tease to shake our brains a bit. While devs are working we need some fun. And that is why there are so many post of speculations and ideas that does appear will be in the game, but they just cannot. (Pimps have goals different from our wishes).

Stick to page one of this thread, in first post is what you need to read and tell your followers. Keep kickin and wish you best out there !

I'm not sure those are brains. Could be paper-wrapped big macs. Probably still as healthy as ever.

Im all for friendly banter. Just make sure you are crystal clear about what is on topic and off topic. You are the moderator and I understand that, just dont be like some dirty corrupt cop and failing to adhere to the standards you set.
Off topic content has been tolerated historically in the dev diary threads for as long as I've been here. That doesn't mean they're unmoderated, or that other rules don't apply. Roland's elected to use his discretion this time, which is the only reason you've been allowed to discuss moderator action here.

The rules are developed to promote the health and decorum of the community as it continues to grow and evolve. Personally, I think the rules largely derive from common sense. Here's one section worth re-reading.

On Topic/Off Topic ThreadsDo not post comments on the status of threads that have gone off-topic. The Developers and Moderators allow a certain level of leniency with off-topic conversation even in official topic specific threads, and will address the issue should it get out of hand. The Developers and Moderators will dictate when a thread needs to remain on-topic and will warn when off-topic discussion is getting out of hand. The Development and Moderation team will also dictate which topic is currently considered the on-topic subject of discussion as threads progress should off topic commentary occur. If you feel a post has derailed a thread simply report the post.

I think it would add a nice bit of realism if there was a POI that is truly a horders house. Have players literally chop through all the stuff with risk of uncovering sleepers and or loot.

As many times as I check how close to leveling up, I disagree.

So....something just occurred to me. Thoughts on the sleeper vultures? I wonder if merely running down the road past them is enough to wake them or if you need to be closer.

Are they planning on making it so Alpha 17 comes out sooner than Alpha 16th.
Noone wants to work on a client`s project and the client stays a meter behind or around him and keeps asking when the job is done. Keep pimps do their job. They show what we need to see. Nothing more, nothing less.

Welcome to the world of game developement !

You young people have no idea what drawn out game development is. Three words: Duke Nukem Forever. That's a baseline to compare against!

DNF: announced in 1997, playable in 2011.

7D2D: kickstarter in 2013, playable in 2013.

7D2D: the game is great even though it isn't finished.

DNF: the game sucks even though it is finished.

DNF: No information whatsoever about anything in the game.

7D2D: So much information people keep complaining all the time about what they are being told.

Now, one might say I'm being unreasonable in picking DNF as the baseline, as it is surely the worst case scenario. Not so! More than half of the games I funded through Kickstarter have never been completed! Some of them flat out went broke, while others are languishing in limbo, with a few developers working on it long after the fund has expired. I'm not just talking about far fetched projects either! Some, yes, I funded without much expectation of them succeeding, just on the off chance. One of the best games I've played was Jon Shaffer's At The Gates, and that one is firmly stuck in limbo. Some were successfully released and fell flat, such as Jagged Alliance: Flashback. And some went on to be big hits, just as I expect 7D2D to be (not that I backed it), though I can't recall any that stuck to its original timeline or budget. And even big studios will often cancel projects, so DNF was by no means the worst that can happen.

And that's not because game developers suck either. The physical projects I've backed don't seem to have any greater margin of success.

So take it as you will, but unless you want to be pissed off because you want to be pissed off, I suggest you rethink your expectations.

And, no, beerfly, that wasn't directed at you (at all!). :) I just hijacked your thread. :)

I get banned for talking about addressing bugs in a bug report forum, for speculating when thats all that can be done, and yet Roland gets to post crap like 'juarez's whores horse' and now people are talking nonsense about unicycles and pics of Duke Nukem and that is fine?
What disgusting double standards there are here.

I would like to point out something someone else said on here which was a legitimate question, why aren't vehicles listed (4 wheel)?

MadMole did NOT say vines were in, but *maybe* in the future, but he DID say the 4 wheel vehicles were in. So why the hell are vines and trellises listed as A17 features?

Even getting rid of the vehicles from the discussion isn't it yet more going back on their (Dev/Rolands) words not to post things that aren't definitely in the game? Yet that's exactly what's happened - including things for the A17 build that thusfar are nothing but a *maybe* - just wtf is that?

Also, I would like to point out the sly wording used in the new exp bar. That is a useless addition, experience bar? Why? Doesn't that clutter up the screen with additional useless information? Ah, well thats why the described it as an 'ultra thin' bar.

Why? Becuase they dont want to seem like hypocrites (which they are) arguing hunger and thirst or maps on screen is clutter, yet they add an exp bar which is completely useless.

It may show you how close you are to levelling, but whyhave it at all when reducing clutter is already something theyve done by having the level up as a pop up (which is actually a good thing by the way.)

Having an experience bar doesnt tell you how many points you have, its only a general experience meter and doesnt tell you how much youve advanced in individual skills (mining tools, construction etc). Useless.

I'll wait for the usual complaints. And by the way Roland, instead of banning me to avoid conversation, try talking with me as a person and lets have some positive dialogue.
Welcome Back?

Bon Voyage?

Both seem to apply here.

And some went on to be big hits, just as I expect 7D2D to be (not that I backed it)
Early Access is every bit as much of a crowd funding scheme as Kickstarter. You may not be an original backer but you are a backer.

Thank you very much. :)

I can recall a particular scene from Casino with Joe Pesci and his conversation with a banker. It cant be posted here but hopefully someone knows it. I picture Roland being Joe Pesci in this scenario.

The short answer is that in a server-client model there's always a delay between performing an action and the rest of the network being synchronized with that change. This delay is caused by having to send the data about the change from the player who performed the action to the server and then on to the rest of the connected clients. When running the game locally, even as a MP server, this synchronization is unnecessary.
So why not just ignore the sync and always trust the server? when I worked on a MMO a few year back the server was always right.
