Hope I don't sound too stupid. What is wrong with the cop? I really have no opinion one way or the other on him, guess I never ran into too many of them. Just, since I never gave thought to him, I couldn't imagine what would elicit a strong reaction like that lol. So may I ask you to do what you do so well? :) Tell me a story! :) Tell me about this mean cop and why he wrecks things. (Bad pretext to ask for a story I know but I don't want to be too transparent do I?)
The zombie cops are just too "magically fairy dust" for me. I can understand the green glow of the radiated zombies (electrons dropping down an energy state give off a green glow if copper is present) even though radiation does not glow in itself.

I can justify the whole "Zombie" thing (Modified Rabies virus). But forever puking Z-cops are a forehead slapper for me. I guess I can pretend they are bandits firing missiles at me. I'll live. :)

That's cool, I get that, makes total sense and AWESOME that you know that about radiation not glowing and the electrons in presence of copper. Aw but you left out a story, its almost bedtime. :)

Left 4 Dead had spitters also (and spider zeds), it's mainly a deterrent to use height as an advantage vs the normal zeds which can't do much vertically. Don't take it too scientifically, it's mainly for balance and variety.

Hmm, I don't think that is how it supposed to work and personally I have never seen that happen in game. I have had a number of friends (we play co-op) go into my base to get something out of one of my chests and they never had any zeds spawn in on them. Yes, it was a POI and I was the only one with a bedroll down in that POI and I was nowhere near the POI at the time. Now I have seen zeds spawn in when someone goes into a POI base of another player when that player (whose base and bedroll it was) was not online at the time.
Correct. The bedroll becomes "invisible" to the world when the owner goes offline. When online the bedroll guards the spawn area. So you can have as many visistors as you like, there will be no spawning zeds within your bedroll protected area as long as you are online. If owner goes offline and someone "passes by" close enough to trigger the sleepervolumes urge to spawn they will spawn.

Cheers

Just occured to me that the current smilies seem to represent the 5 stages of grief... Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance

Ok, finally caught up with the forum after a few days away. Seriously though, I'm back at work next week so if we can keep the number of posts down to normal levels otherwise I'm not gonna get anything done :playful:

Very excited by the recent MM video, keep up the good work!

Lol I think there is a sixth stage. Something like slip n' slide or something like that. Lol I'm just being delirious, not serious.

*HUG*

The zombie cop has mutated to develop a form of regurgitation, similar to the one used by vultures. this means they have functioning digestive systems! which makes me wonder...if they use the restroom in their pants, right? shouldn't we be glad they drop a loot bag instead of forcing us to check their soiled corpses? I think a better question is why does everyone say "virus" when we use antibiotics to stop and get rid of the infection? it is clearly some sort of new bacteria that behaves like a parasite, keeping the host alive(as an undead zombie) and feeding with it. the bacteria kills us(probably from feeding on us), and then reanimates our corpse in order to feed on others and simultaneously replicate and spread. Perhaps it is a very sophisticated bacteria, but it is limited to spread via bodily fluids/infected materials entering our blood? such as a bite, scratch, or highly acidic stomach acid burning through our skin?

I don't think there will be an A18. We'll probably do a beta update and go gold after that. That doesn't mean there won't be some content updates though.
I'm seeing... surprisingly little blowback to this, actually. But I know some have advocated for the game to stay in alpha basically forever, and to them I say don't despair. We're all excited about what more will come to 7 Days to Die because that's the game we've seen, played, and identified with TFP. But a time will come when a video for their next game has just come out, and our imaginations will be running just as wild.

IMO it's just a normal progression for any project to cross that finish line eventually. It's not a "this is it" type of line either, more of a we're confident enough on the quality to call it gold, but we will probably make additions after.

...But we will probably make additions after.
I really hope that "probably" is a "definitely", because while the game might be in a good state to call it gold, there's still plenty of promised features that aren't in yet.

i was playing the tutorial mission of my Permadeath game

the muhahaha was when he opened fire at me (until then unaware that someone joined my game)

His unluck, after a bug i started from scratch, with godmode alike cheats active because of that bug

So formel is:

Be sure someone try to grief you

....

Smelt his face

...

continue with your stuff

(NMS now implement the ability to disable PVP)

(and sure, 7D2D has server and (but not enough) rules for PVP)

I think it may have something to do with if the person entering is friends in game with the person who the bedroll belongs to. For example, there was a server I played on where the admin would make a small well protected base that players could teleport to to trade items and cook food. He had converted a POI to make the base and placed a bedroll. Well, the sleepers volumes spawn after xx days of last spawn, etc.. So, if no one had been there in a couple days, then someone who wasn't on his friends list in game went to the base, it would spawn sleepers.

Not sure if I explained that well enough or not. lol But, it does happen. Also, when I was an admin on a server, every time I went to a players base that was a POI and wasn't on my friends list, it would spawn sleepers.

So, it works, for the most part. I think the code just has to be tweaked a bit. Bedroll should = totally disabled sleepers spawn under any condition. But, alas, it doesn't.

I actually want 7 days to stay in alpha forever!! new content forever pls :)

One thing that I really missed in A16 from A15 was the possibility to decide zombie spawn in cities. In A15 we made it so the larger the city the harder resistance the player had to deal with, and in the wilderness we had weaker and less zombies. This made larger cities really dangerous in the start of the game making it harder for the player to get great loot in early game.

Will this feature return, and if not, why not?

Explain military gear then. Pretty sure we are repairing that stuff. Its the armor I was thinking of while writing that lol. But even leather armor would stop SOME puncture damage of a 9mm. [note I didnt say negate, but without going into huge detail, platemail has a chance to negate bullets completely if they ricochet.]
When repairing military gear, we're using found- not crafted- components on both ends. The leather armor in the game is not boiled, so it's likely about as tough as a leather jacket. Good against teeth, not so much vs knives/arrows/bullets. There may be a point to plate surviving a graze, but that's likely a thing more trouble than it's worth to code.

Given the need to prioritize efforts, I'd say that bullet resistance of any kind for PvP would be bottom of the list; however it might be necessary once bandits are introduced and could be part of that effort.

Lol, don't laugh, I still love chocolate milk. Ok...you can laugh...a little or a lot.
Me too.

What building piece would I like to see? A corner iron bar block with a 90 degree bend in the bars so you could match up the corners of a north-south wall iron bar block with an east-west oriented one and not have the odd gaps. One alpha we built a giant pyramid.
Um, you can already completely close your corners. Unless you're meaning with Iron Bars (Centered)?

+1I use sidesteps really often if i run longer distances to view arround
+1. I tend to run forward, as well as sidestep to maintain situational awareness when traveling. And I pretty much full sprint everywehre when not in my base, unless I go stealth. Backpedaling isn't as much a concern, except that you can run as fast backward as you can forward IRL. Why you can't in a game doesn't really make sense. Any melee or hand to hand fighter will tell you the ability bob (duck) and weave (sidestep, leaning) and get in and out (forward and back) is crucial to controlling range and timing. Taking that away from the players DOES gimp us, regardless of PVP or PVE. Melee and hand to hand is not just about your skill trees, and how hard you can bang, but your strategies for dealing with something or someone that hits back. (I honestly think we should be able to block/parry as well, but it's the Pimp's vision.)

Roland,
Now can we get a .50 cal for the roof [of the Jeep/MOLE]?
I mean, the military has Ma Deuce's coming out the yin yang. We should be able to find them fairly easily, especially at National Guard checkpoints and armories.

And if we have the Ma Deuce we also have the ammo for a .50 caliber rifle, which I really would love to take down the nastiest things. And or ruin someone's Jeep/MOLE by hitting the engine block. A Barret .50 (any variant, or some of the other .50 caliber rifles) would be harder to come by, I think. They aren't as prolific. You can find civilian versions but not a lot of civs have them.

@Devs - Would it be possible to add in swirl anims for the sniper rifle at some point as well as bullet splash? (Not meaning water but water counts, but like the puff of dust or dirt at the point of impact from a ballistic projectile (non arrow/bolt though))

Once the KS goals are done and we're gold, we'll probably do some post gold pvp stuff. We have some new things planned that are going to make pvp much more viable I can't talk about now.
That's great to hear. I'm kind of a carebear in this game right now, but that doesn't mean I haven't dunked plenty of fools. Wanna try my hand at it at some point, so it's good to know this is in the pipeline for the future.

No.
There. That was simple.

(To expand: Remember back in the day when players didn't have any input on their games? The game was released. If you liked it, you bought it. If you thought you might like it, you bought it, then returned it or sold it if it wasn't what you wanted.)
Yeah except IIRC, Steam doesn't let you return stuff you buy anymore. That's why I have a library of crap I don't want or play anymore, after the first time or two running it. - My investment had better pay off then.

Jedo is probably a goonswarm member, if you've played any MMO's at all, you'd gather its best to just ignore him. [Although, he does remind me of one nerd I used to spawn camp back in ultima.]
I forgot Goonswarm wasn't an Eve Online-only group. I miss that game so much but I can't afford the sub. "FREE TO PLAY!" ... Except you cant really do jack without a sub in that game. I tried a few months ago when I got my new rig.

What of noticeable value to a zombie apocalypse survivor do you have in your pockets right now? =P
This immediate moment? Black sweatpants (great quality). Gray t-shirt (good quality).

What do I normally have on me when doing things around the house or out and about?

  • Shirt
  • Pants
  • Shoes or boots (leather, cordage (shoe laces))
  • Belt (often, leather, flexible weapon, brass buckle)
  • Ontario RAT 1 - (high quality folding pocket knife, made for bushcraft and survival. Great skinner and meat cutter, and you could reliably fight with it if you needed to)
  • Small notebook. (Paper, shotgun wadding, useful for making notes (waypoints?), marking trails, drawing things (maps?))
  • Pen and pencil (marking, stabbing)
  • Butane lighter (fire starting, sterilizing knife and other things)
  • Firesteel (ferrocerium rod, useful for firestarting, signaling, will work when too windy for a lighter, works wet or dry, hot or cold)
  • Cree Mini LED flashlight (very small, runs on 1 AA battery (can be rechargeable), makes a great fist pack, can be added onto a pistol for a tactical light, has low, high, and high strobe settings, AND you can focus the beam to be thin or decently wide angle. Pretty bright even on low. Runs for a long time. Can get you the Amazon link if you want. There are four of them in my house. 2 for the go bags, 1 for the house in general, 1 for me, also will eventually put them in the car kits., along with the head lamps for the go/bug out bags)

When I carried a wallet, it was either leather or duct tape. Paper money, coinage, improvised lockpick set, and of course cards and ID's can be scrap plastic. (Knew that library card would be useful again, eventually!) Or you can even weaponize a card with a razor, but that's going a little far.

And a lot of the time I also carry a multi-tool with pliers, screw driver, knife blade, scaler, saw, and a few other things on it.

My go bags? ALICE packs with even more gear, and with a ton of room still to go, and it doesn't weigh much, because ounces become pounds at the end of a long trek. Thankfully we (my family and I) live in a town of only around 12,000 people in the middle of the U.S. As soon as this (zombies) started hitting the news we would be evacuating out of town. And we have a set rendezvous point (A few actually). I wot go into the rest of my gear as it would take too long, but it's not really extensive. Not compared to what I would like to have.

A good chunk of that is just disaster preparedness. We live in one of the areas controlled by the Fire Nation. (Wild fires and such are a continual problem.) So we have to be ready to bug out for that, which almost happened earlier this spring/summer. We also live in the most active state in Tornado Alley. So we have to be ready in case God decides our town needs redecorated.

It's not unreasonable to find such things. I think you'd also find that people in the south have similar preps in place for hurricane seasons. Same goes for southern California and similar in regards to earthquakes. Same goes for flood plains.

Be prepared. Always.

Make sure to smash that button in the ballz to support the channel!
Which/who's channel? Yours? Where?

I am taking this as it will be at least 2 person vehicle in future.
How about the others? How are the hog and the bicycle doing? Won't ask about gyrocoptor because I think it was already mentioned it won't be in A17 or did I misread that somewhere.

Bicycle, minibike, motorcycle and 4x4 truck all have recipes to make them and function well. They need some damaging adjustments and storage is not done yet. Should all be in A17.
Thanks for that info.

(and yes my brain did manage to catch the word should in the above statement. :) )

Damage values aside, how would people feel about a .50cal sniper rifle with a range of 100-120m? (whatever it is right now)How would that make any kind of sense?

It's already a stretch with the current rifles in the game and if you wanted to render the required voxel world up to say 400m, you'd get 1/16th of the FPS.

So below 4 FPS if you would normally have 60.
50 cal SMG alike (like the bolter from Warcraft) i would like

Real punch, but only 12 very expensive and rare Rounds.

About the Distance ...

well you are right, i cant see any sense of Sniper rifles in 7D2D

Feel too arcade for me.

In my opinion

Pistols = 10m 10cm radius precision

SMG = 30m 10cm radius precision

Rifle = 80m 10cm radius precision

Precision weapons = 120m 10cm radius precision

Edit: remembers me on "Project Reality"

Sniper rifle = 1200m radius, you needed to aim for 6-8 seconds until your gun was aligned.

All times these Arcade newbies. Runned with Sniper rifles in CQB. And then they cried "You all cheat"

rofl

But to be serious, all this back and forth about the actual percentage of PvP is irrelevant. The key here is that in the mind of the man responsible for putting out the game, PvP is essentially 1% and single player and MP Cooperative is 99% of what he feels is important for this game. Who cares what the actual tallies are. The developers are making this into a Single Player game first and foremost and a PVE game among friends and family second and any features that happen to benefit PvP are completely coincidental. Even if you could prove that PvP was actually 20% it wouldn't matter in regards to Madmole's approach in developing the game. He decided long ago that for this game PvP would be a non-factor. That's the actual significance of him saying 1%. And with that attitude it wouldn't surprise me if the current percentage really was 1% at this point as Cup's quick ratio seemed to signify.
Arrgh. I have no beef with the game's PvP, and I even +repped you for the first part of your post. But here, you're arguing this from the worst possible angle for me to agree with you. You're saying even if the numbers are wrong, the truth is irrelevant, and the only thing that makes a difference is how the man in charge feels and what he believes in his mind to be true. I'm not saying madmole's numbers are right or wrong. But I must insist that reality does matter, and to dismiss the facts or not care if they're accurate is a careless attitude that in many arenas can be downright dangerous.

I guess I should add that:

  • I don't think "millions" was hyperbole, seeing how 7DtD made Steam's all time top 100 best sellers list.
  • It makes the most business sense to count all users that paid for the game. But if we must only consider "active long-term players in multiplayer servers"... then most PvP doesn't count. Because by eidobunny's own admission, PvP only lasts about 2-4 weeks after an update before the servers are dead again, while coop games continue to thrive.
  • If the game's vision should take a back seat to what generates more players, playtime, and profit as bloom_meister suggests, then why draw the line at MP games? I'm sure Candy Crush Saga beats MP games on all three of those stats, so should TFP stop "dissing" and add match-3 gameplay?
  • It was a design decision to make brass a limited resource. TFP certainly didn't do it because they didn't know how brass is made or thought it was too hard, Andrivullar. Give them a break.
