I don't get where yall started thinking we are loosing 80% of map size. with out over thinking it the current map is 10000x10000 it is being reduced to 8000x8000. from page one +Random Generated Worlds are now 8000x8000 meters 7/24/18. to me that is about a 20 maybe 30 percent decrease not 80.
The old map was circular with a radius of 10km. Hence an areal surface of 314 km2.

The new map is supposed to be a square with sides of 8km. Hence an areal surface of 64 km2.

64/314 = 20.38%. So a 80% percent reduction.

If this is true, of course.

Let's assume that the origin point is dynamic and the map can be set to 100km. That gives you 10,000km of explorable area.

That's... <takes off shoes and underwear to count>... over 22.5% larger than the current map.

Still finding new things in 7D2D
I have been playing this game for awhile and Alpha 16 ever since it came out. But for the first time ever, I found (face piercings). Not kidding.

Got them off of a zombie. I did not try them but the description said that it would increase your chances of getting infections.

Other things I have noticed are different sounds (mostly from zombies) that sound new to me.

Is it me or new things being put into the game or what?
:fat:

Just You mate, found and wore those piercings not long after alpha 16 was out

Okay... I reiterate...
As I understand it the 8km limit on the map is the default setting. I distinctly remember having a discussion in which Roland was involved where it was revealed that the map size could be set to far larger than 10km.

The main problem with such a large map is that the player tends to shake uncontrollably as they get further from the origin point of the world. This has been solved by rebuilding the map with the players position as the new origin point when they get too far away.

Where is everyone getting the idea that 8km is the maximum map size?
If I read it correctly, the Old MAp has Radius of 10K, which make it 20K x20K square that hold a circle. now Roland confirm it to be 8K x8K , that make it 4K radius circle, so it is clearly 2.5 of what it used to be. They say they add more content to map to explore, but are they talking about Navezgame only or RWG I am not sure, and yet it is editable by XML, but most player want it in Vanilla to have bigger map, with 4x4 it is too easy to explore whole map. Though for me the size is okay, can go little bigger if they can. But most don't like the reduce size. even by 1 :) .

Hehe. Did you put your underwear on again? Can I open my eyes??

Yeah but they implemented something to pre-generate the map I think. Pre-generating a map of 100x100 km might require such a sufficiently powerful computer, that we should rather worry it will not go rogue and enslave humanity.

The old system couldn't deal with a map larger than 10km, the new system can. Just because the default size is 8km does not mean the maximum size is 8km.

FOR THOSE WHO STILL DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE MAP CHANGES

please read this:

In A16 you can go away from (0,0) approximately 10km in any direction. This is what is called a radius. The map has a diameter of 20km. This is how an approximate size of 314 sq km was calculated. 10x10 = 100 --> 100 x 3.14 = 314
Kinyajuu has confirmed that the new size is a square map that is 8km x 8km which means a total size of 64 sq. km. 8 x 8 = 64.

So the map will be considerably smaller but more densely filled with POI's. This is better for some playstyles and worse for others. So that is how some people can talk about how it is better and how others can talk about it is worse and nobody has to be deep in anyone's ass. Although, there may be a problem with at least one person who thinks everyone plays the game the same way as them....

It'll likely be slow but I'm sure some people, myself included, will be willing to leave the computer churning away on its own for a few hours while it generates.

Hopefully (pls @faatal don't disprove ;) ) the generation is linear with the area that one wants to generate.. so if 50Km^2 takes 1 minute, than 100Km^2 takes 2.

The old map is shaped like a circle with a 10k radius, which is the red circle in your example. The new map is shaped like a quare with a 8k side, which is basically a quarter of your green square in your example.
So... this?

Christ.. that's a steep hill. :f

How big's Navezgane again? Wasn't it 4x4?

Raiding's going to become so much more frequent ha..

Lol if this is true the same amount of players will leave, there's no point for a survival to play in such small map size, exploring everything quickly and finding some one will be so easy to lose the

Excitement, also what's the point to add that little helicopter in a map that small, it's like going from kitchen to bedroom with a train.

please read this:
Yea, its smaller than I originally understood, I was expecting a 20 percent decrease. Kinda sucks. Hopefully bringing it back up a bit to say 50 percent of original size in XML won't kill the performance. I wonder what other "Features" are in store....

The map size does suck I agree. So please don't take what I'm about to say the wrong way. But they have said from the beginning that the game was meant for single player/ small co-op first. So maybe they are sticking to what they have stated working on the game from a single player/ small group point of view. Maybe this along with some other reasons that it being done this way on for default.

I honestly don't know how I feel about it until I try it out. I can say I see where people are coming from and like Roland said some will like it some will not. But like they said we can always make it bigger in the XML files so we at least have options.

Is it a good time to request a Option for map size in RWG ...

Options? Nah bro, we can simply dive in the the Source Code and programm the game ourselfs. Easy.
