Before something can be balanced, it needs to be balance-able in the first place. Gazz can change the price of a club or the requirements for a perk, but there's nothing he can tune to make a broken ladder 10% less effective. Broken ladders exist outside the set of balance-able parameters, and that's not good.
Actually, I can see how this could be done. The impact would be pretty large though, and would affect the entire world. It would also add additional SI-level calculations to the game which may impact overall performance.

To put it simply, have damaged blocks impose a speed debuff based on how damaged they are. There are a couple of ways I can see of doing it that would be fairly simple, and wouldn't add a lot of overhead, but they would require tonnes of additional coding. The best overall way would be internally calculating it like the SI is managed though.

Guys I came up with this idea that I think would increase the chances for zombies of getting into your base. I haven't given it much thought yet, but do you think it would work?

The gore block should be like a dirt block. It should be a full block that connects to neighbor blocks as dirt does. Multiple of them should be able to stack on top of each other. Creating a ramp that zombies can walk on.

The only differences with dirt would be texture and durabily.. and players should be slowed when walking on it, as it already is with current gore blocks.

Imagine it is horde night and you are standing on your wall shooting down zombies. If they come in large numbers they would be able to create a large pile of gore and eventually get to you.

Do you guys think this is feasible??

Didn't they try this already with the goreblocks?

and how would you collect the loot? unless it would change to "block" over time

Well I don't think zombie should do anything that is possible for brainless entity, jumping to catch ladder is more of brainy stuff. One can argue that AI is too, but jumping to catch is more of active brain activity and finding door to enter is subconusious brain activity. So nope that seems too intelligent for zombie action.
Having smarter zombies in a game like 7 days to die is needed. I don't want a game were if you just take out the ladder your safe. It's just lame and feels like your exploiting the AI's incappablity to make this game challenging. Also MORE SPIDER ZOMBIES need to be added that can leap and get at you in multiple ways. Smarter/ more cappable AI is need for this game to be more engaging.

It is feasible since it was this way once. In my opinion TFP should at least make this modable in A17 so that modders have a chance to play with this. Then lots of feedback will be available to find out whether it is a good idea to put it in in A18.

I am absolutly on your Side there. More Spiderzombies, and more Threat from above.

FAATAL,

Quick question...

While you are working on the Zombie AI/pathing/collision

Can you also make it that Zombies can "eventually" fell a tree.

Some people do know of the invincible tree house perched up in the pine trees. Zombies as of A16.4 cannot take down a tree at all.

Can you make it , that if 2 or 3 or more zombies attack a tree then it starts losing hit points or something to that effect?

Regards

BtW....Happy 4th of July everyone!!

Since the AI will now attack the supporting structure, it should fix this already.

vultures may no longer be retarded, but I havent had any on a horde night... would make em more interesting if they were gauranteed to be in a horde night. plus, the football player. people want a zed that can span a 2 jump gap, dogs, and the football players. at their speed, should be doable to get a decent jump or arc if they ran off a ramp instead of simply just falling.

Well then Stripper zombies should be carrying a piece of pole and be able to pole vault across gaps!! Girl Power/equal rights and all that!! Or at the very least give them a chance to stun when you look at them coming at you!!

If you know what I mean!! I guess grandma zombie could give the stun affect as well then..Ewwww!

NEWS!

I need news!

Have the Kraken been prepped?

Is MM locked away in his room?

Does Gazz have anything to do?

Is faatal holding up release because he's so pedantic?

Something? :p

OK, as I was typing this, I realized some people will want to come up with their own ideas.

I think A17 is designed for mobile defenses over static, like the changes in warfare between WW1 and WW2. Late game viable jeep runs on horde nights might be the thing.

Of course until late game, I am going to have a hard time trying figuring out what works well, above ground. I can't justify role-playing digging down with out at least one death. Then I will imagine my character hear the trader say: "Run silent, run deep, boy, if you want to live". :)

Something?

Vultures are no longer completely retarded..Confirmed by Gazz!

Please try to keep up!!

Your welcome!!

Although there SHOULD be a way to defeat zombies with base defenses, the FUN method is to have different zombies able to overcome different defense methods.

Keeping it dynamic is fun. Concrete super bunkers on stilts you access by a ramp jump while you shoot the zombies through the iron rails below like fish in a barrel is not.

Jumping zombies

Block breakers

Acid spitters

Flyers

Climbers

Sappers

...etc. ...is the way to go.
