my funny was wondering what grieving you could possibly do spam sleeping
Besides making a joke I wanted to highlight how similar your sleeping idea is to spam-crafting: Doing something boring to automatically get some bonus the longer you do it. It surely wouldn't have the negative repercussions spam-crafting had, but there is just so much wrong with that idea in the context of 7D2D where one of the principles is(*) that you should be rewarded for action not for sitting around.

I can't remember any game where you only play one character that has ever implemented sleep as real waiting time. And the reason might be similar to the reasons games often implement time compression (one in-game hour== 3 minutes) and, except for ultra-realism (deer hunter, combat sims), try to remove any simulation of waiting. Even fishing is usually changed to a reaction based mini-game even though it is the perfect instance of a hobby consisting mostly of waiting.

(*) At least something like this was one of the reasons to remove spam-crafting according to Roland. I'm sure he will correct me if that is wrong.

Once I accidentally scrapped a can of spam when I fell asleep at the keyboard and that resulted in me grieving because I was hungry and had no other food
Finally somone understands the cultural importance and uniqueness of spam :smile-new:

I mean who wants to sleep in a game?
Indeed :smile-new:

Or...1. Find ANY house.

2. Take out any stairs and/or ladders.

3. Stay on the roof.

Safe, hoard night after hoard night after hoard ni....
Oh yeah! I haven't used that old trick in a long time. It was one of the first things that I thought of when I started playing back in 2014.

Can't believe I forgot about it, thanks :)

Is there any word yet on the new progression/ skill system?

I am really looking forward to this and am wondering how much of it will be locked behind loot drops. (Like the Minibike is now)

I really like the healing affect you get from bedrolls and beds in Ravenhearst. The better quality the bed the faster you heal. It is an extra thing and you can choose to avoid beds completely. Plus, your bedroll is portable so you can place it wherever you like whenever you like. This I found to be a good mechanism, especially early game when most of what you have doesn't heal.
Sleeping belongs in other games and doesn't provide any additional fun or value in this game that I can find or have seen explained so far.
Do people line the floor of their horde bases with these healing blocks?

Honestly I like the idea of creating a bunch of characters, give them an AI script from a menu during character creation and that character will follow said script when you are not playing as them, so if you make player 1 (builder) and run a builder AI that might need to be leveled by some mechanic in the game, they will randomly build structures and based on their level will depend on the type they build, after getting settled you have player 2 (slayer) ...
Do I really have to say the F-word that ends with "allout 4" ? :smile-new:

But seriously: If those companions were effective (i.e. the builder could really do most of the building for you) a lot of the incentives for co-op play would be gone. If on the other hand those companions were not effective enough to get that work done, the only reason to use them is because you like to play a sims-style mini-game.

In my opinion thats a meager result for something that needs as much works as a big DLC (think of all the new API's you need to manage and control your community and special AI routines for every class).

Even if they did the healing effect is VERY minimal, you would need to stand on them all night to even have a chance at healing. They are mostly designed for people who craft at night and need a heal boost.

Example

Code:
				<buff id="sleepingBagEffect" duration="0" buffif="CTRbedroll greater 0" debuffif="CTRbedroll less 1" actions="increment(CTRbedroll, -3, 2, 0, 0)" 	icon="ui_game_symbol_map_bed" name_key="Restless Comfort" description_key="You are Relaxing as best as you can. Find a better bed to gain more comfort" tooltip_key="You are Relaxing as best as you can">
				<modify id="0" stat="health" amount="1" rate="30" />
				<modify id="0" stat="stamina" amount="1" rate="10" />
			</buff>
Enough to heal an afk player overnight but definitely not to heal you from getting hit by a zed.

I disagree about zombie finding you. Because players are going to be hidden inside somewhere. Minimal or no lighting, no sound (well maybe snoring) and (hopefully) no smell.

So zombies wont even know that the player is there and would just walk on by.

Unless you try this on hoard night ofc. ;)

Never try to sleep on hoard night.

Campton Obvious

But you're forgetting the sleep keyboard commands:- Z; Make load snoring sounds or sometimes 'gas' noise. Oh the fun we will have!

- D; You enter a dream that if you solve the problem you actually wake up and find the Zombie Apocalypse has not happened... yet. You start 7D2D part 3 called "7 weeks to live!" travel the world in a "12 Monkeys" type of quest to stop the Zombie Apocalypse in near impossible tasks. If you fail can you survive the nightmare when 6,666,666,666 people turn in to zombie horrors!
lol these are good ideas. Plus, I really want to load my snores and fire them with the blunderbuss.

..So sleeping is bad, how about pets ? I saw in some mod they already achieve but any plan for future for it ?
Companion wolves were discussed in one of Joel's videos

Yay I can finally cook family dinner! ;-)

Not to be that guy but...
It's been almost a year, do we have any eta on A17s release? Month, Quarter, has anything been said?
Pretty much the same thing for every other release: when it’s ready. In all seriousness, it seems like we are not yet at the stage where the devs know yet. According to Roland, they are not at the full, playable QA stage yet.

I could see a sleep system working IF implemented right (see project zomboid). I don't personally think this game needs it though. Yes it would add to "oh crap" moments of you start fatigue too far away from your base, but who would want to be forced to miss the blood moon because its nappy time and your toon is tired? Maybe adds a time management element? Still not 100% for it.
