Maybe the act of sleeping doesn't but the status of fatigue does and having to maintain levels of alertness vs drowsiness is a normal aspect of living much like hunger and thirst that could be represented in the game. Obviously, skipping time doesn't work in this game but if you could build a community and take over the actions directly of different characters while others slept it would in my opinion add value. You could create multiple characters in the same world and make different choices for skills etc. As the player you would never be not playing but the characters would live more naturally by having awake and asleep cycles.
If they can't do this then I agree no sleeping. It just wouldn't work or be fun in any other way.
i disagree. sleeping is viable if you limit the time taken to sleep is drastically reduced. it doesn't need to be hyper realistic. just something for the longer you sleep the less tired you are and the longer you can go. the quicker wounds heal etc. and it would be as long as you want it to be and can disengage at any time. but the longer you sleep/rest the more buffs you get. (like well rested) for max buffs could be minuets. like 10 min thats a nice round number. and resetting your fatigue would take like 30 seconds, no buffs etc.
resting would also be good in case you need to go afk for like an hour to clean the house but your using peripherals to watch your game in case of raid. or need that xp from the stuff thats being crafted even in a single player game. because lets face it there WILL be times you have to wait for your stuff to finish crafting.
having a resting mechanic so the damn chairs actually have a use.
things sleep\resting would do.
(PROS)
1. lowers the rate your hunger/thirst declines, so by the time you come back from being afk your not starving and at half health because of thirst or starvation.
2. Enables Health regen. (so you don't have to waste healing items)
3. while siting in a chair and resting the blood draw kit doesn't take as much health as it would when standing up.
4. drastically lowers the time broken limbs heal by which method you choose. sitting in a chair reduces it by 1/4 and sleeping halves it.
5. if fatigue is a thing in a17 then it would boost your fatigue levels, so you can go longer. (for longer trips)
just examples.
(CONS)
1. might trigger wandering hoard attack.
2. if your infected there is a chance you might either die and turn or recover. (of course the % of recovering would be very low.)
3. your hearing and sight are impaired. (maybe blacken the screen a bit.) so you can potentially be snuck up on and killed.
4. while sleeping you do not get xp from things crafting, you have to be resting in a chair to do this. (resting does NOT impair you)
these things i have listed will give you the best of both worlds. something to do to take some time and get buffs or don't. and adds survival aspects to it. and it doesn't take forever to do. like i said it doesn't have to be hyper-realistic. just enough to add SOME immersion but not so immersive it breaks the enjoyment of the game.
