Hey, has anybody ever noticed that there's no huge pile ups of cars on most of the roads, like we see in Dying Light, Walking Dead, Fallout or other countless other forms of Zombie/dystopian/apocalyptic media?
I was hoping this would be a staple of 7 days, as well as some more elaborate road layouts, overpasses, on ramps, etc.

The under motorway tunnels in Dying Light are really cool.
Overpasses and motorways would be cool but an absolute PITA to do through procedural code, especially in a voxel engine.

The number of abandoned vehicles would depend on how much warning people got of the apocalypse and, if it was quick enough, what time of day the apocalypse happened.

If it was quick, without warning, and about 4am there would be fewer vehicles than we currently see. If it was a long drawn-out process then cars would be abandoned as the last of the fuel ran out, this would lead to the more even distribution that we see in 7dtd.

I'm curious how many designers actually put any thought into the process of societal collapse and how many just put a bunch of cars at junctions because it seemed the right thing to do.

Interesting thoughts on the cars. Another explanation could be most people in this (7D2D part 1) area had time to flee to a "Safe" zone (7D2D part 2) where it was not only unsafe, but ... well, its best I don't tell you what happened there. You'll have to find out for yourself. :)

If they implemented them as POIs and had the road making code include them then it may not be so bad.

...and there's been a lot of negative posters banned over the years.
Not as many as you might think actually. We rarely ban and when we do it is even more rarely permanently done. Most of the time a ban is just 3-7 days depending on whether it was the first or second or third time out given. When we do ban it is usually for someone posting rude or insulting comments about members of the forum and/or the developers after we have warned them to express their criticism in a more polite fashion.

I have never permanently banned a single person outright for posting criticism of the game or for expressing negativity about changes or the length of the development cycle. I always laugh when I read a negative review of the game on Steam where the guy gives a negative review because he and a bunch of others were allegedly all banned from the forums because they disagreed with a design decision of the game. How can that be true and Guppy still be around...lol.

At the same time we work hard to keep the forum generally a positive and hopeful place and free of outright insults and accusations. I've seen forums where negativity, derision, and insulting attitudes overwhelms the entire place and its not an enjoyable place.

I have the highest respect for MadMole, Roland, and faatal. (Used his name, and since he's new, to fit the joke)

And The Fun Pimps as a whole :) This is purely meant as humor, albeit a slightly lame attempt, some might say, and to liven up the crowd a little.

Hadn't seen a hitler video in a while, so thought I'd make my own.

This is brilliant. Punishment postponed. Wish I could order you a pizza.

Your point might be valid if this game weren't in alpha. Think of it this way... they're very successful already without having to go all out with promotions. By the time this game is in beta it will be significantly more polished than it is now and THAT will be worth promoting.
You can't treat this game like it is released and competing with released games. It isn't on either account..
well, i want the game to make them rich, so they can add more to the game etc :p

I often think to myself "I hope TFP see these comments as passion and not as attacks on their hard work" I know I'd be disheartened if I read some of these comments.
Keep on makin, we'll keep on playin
people wouldn't come here and waste there time I hope on insults, maybe being extra passionate about the game is the one thing we all have in common.

I'm familiar with this sentence more than I'd like to admit, sadly. It's incredibly disheartening how absolutely disgusting some communities are, almost as if some people only live to try to ruin somebody else's life. I'm so glad that's not the case of these forums.

There are always upset players , that even didn`t read enough, but just rage. Some people do it once , for some is daily, just frustrating around is lack of understandment and empathy on the situation. Lessons must be learned here.

I wish I could say those toxic people were only angry customers with a certain lack of patience and maturity, but sometimes you can tell some people act like that just to annoy others. It doesn't matter when most people are chill, but when a community has the bad luck to be invaded by those people... Yikes.

Yeah... we hate lame humor around here.

Yes, a plot (and in general more background and characteristics) is definately one of the things the game and it's world still needs, imho. Something to tie it together. A great example for how that could work imho is Subnautica. Truly awesome game imho. If it were not for that strange n sterile Pixar like graphics style...

I wouldn't have chosen Subnautica as a good example of plot in a game. It's a single plot arc with absolutely no branches, no choices, and no variation. After you play through it once what is there to bring you back for another game?

At least with something like Mass Effect, or if you're old enough Knights of the Old Republic, your choices matter. Something you do early on can have a huge impact on how the game plays out. It's a kind of emergent behavior although I'd be the first to admit that it's far more difficult to create such a system by hand and damn near (but not quite) impossible to do it procedurally.

I've played through Skyrim enough times that my most recent character hasn't done a single quest that was actually built into the base game. There's a mod that gives you random quests from notice boards outside the taverns, some of which are either too easy or too difficult for a character of your level. Although these are also single plot-arcs the variation and prompting to tackle something incredibly difficult for your level is what keeps it interesting. I ended up killing a Mammoth while my character was level 16. A frikkin' Mammoth and I haven't even got my big-boy armour yet :-)

"The king died and then the queen dyed is briefs" is just plain silly.
"The Queen died and then the Queen died and then the Queen died and then the Queen died and then the Queen died and then the Queen died and then the Queen died and then the King died" is the story of King Henry VIII. :-)
