I always wondered about dlc's in games like this. I am thinking the only things you could get were cosmetic ones or it throws off the whole game for those who won't or can't buy them. For instance if you could buy a complete new vehicle to use on a MP server how would I interact with it if I don't have the dlc. Could I use it? Could you get in it and I not be able to hit you (for pvp game ofc)In a game where there are so many different types of gameplay in MP, (PVE, PVP, running certain mods, different settings etc) further splintering the community with paid DLC might not be the way to go. But I'm no optometrist.
Well, my theory (obviously) is that they rewrote the underlying vehicle/physics system and generalized it (that was/is the big part). The reason being that the minibike wasn't working as intended, recurring bugs, minibike falling through cracks in the world, ...Not that this opinion is dissing the developers in anyway, but I would prefer them to add more survival/challenge methods to the game rather than 'cool" factors.
Buuuut, I might be missing out on some big game plan that only they know where the use of these extra vehicles is paramount.
But if no big plan that needs them, I personally think the gyrocopter can come for $2 on DLC,
If we only get a part of the main quest (which we already did with the first objective in A15: finding the trader) before the game is released that does sound incomplete. An RPG going gold without even having the main quest in it doesn't sound like a game that only needs polishing (in beta phase).Gotcha. Sticking to this game there will be a story mode with main quests that reveal the story and in my opinion if that story releases during alpha or if it releases 6 months after the game goes gold those are equally fine outcomes. I also don't want it to take five years.
I think the problem here is defining what is major. I feel many major changes have come over the last few alphas. In fact, every alpha release the game seems a brand new creature and in general superseding the one before it. But it sounds like they haven't been working on the things that are important to you so to you it seems really samey and no big changes.
The other problem is that you seem to think the game has to be fixed and polished before it goes to beta. That is simply factually incorrect. The bug fixing, the optimizing, the fleshing out of existing features all happen during beta. That is what beta is for. So yes the game seems unfinished and not ready for release right now. Of course. That's why it shifts into the beta phase of development-- to get it polished and ready for the release.
If A17 truly ends up being the last alpha it would mean that for the next few to several months the developers will be fine tuning, balancing, and fixing everything that we already have and not spending much time working to put in a whole new feature. Once the game is optimized and looking like a finished product it could be released as version 1.0
Then, any missing features that were promised could then be worked on and released as DLC's. That could include the main quest story mode. Or bandits. Or anything else that didn't quite make the A17 cut. Maybe there will be an A18 before we shift into beta and more features will be implemented before the big bug fix party begins in force.
All I'm saying is that I could see A17 being the final alpha version. It's plausible.
Yeah, again TFP can't help it if people misunderstand Beta. But then people have been misunderstanding Alpha and ranting about it for the last 4 years too. Pretty soon we will be saying, "It's Beta" to those cute little monsters.
This, more than anything else you've ever written, gives us a glimpse into what makes Guppycur tick.... I don't care why I woke up naked with a backpack full of oddities...
He's actually The Tick. This, more than anything else you've ever written, gives us a glimpse into what makes Guppycur tick.
I'm not expecting something of the scope and scale of those Bethesda games from an indie developer of course, that would be unrealistic expectations. Just a basic main quest and some side quests with more interactions in the world would be fine with me. I mean, the Navezgane map is nowhere near as large as the one in Oblivion or Skyrim, in the first place.I wouldn't expect this game to be RPG in the same sense as something like Skyrim. It will have character progression and quests, for certain, but I wouldn't expect a 300 hour primary quest line or the like.
Also, from my own person perspective, I'd rather they devote some time to making public tools available, like a POI and world builder, even if they were at an added cost (I'd gladly pay another $25 for them, if done well). I'd rather they perfect what can be done with mods than make the main game perfect. Because in the grand scheme of things, if they did that, then this game would have a very bright and long future indeed.
Also, TFP could release entire hand crafted worlds as DLC if they chose. They could possibly introduce theme packs for POIs so you could have a more futuristic version of the game or a medieval version. With the right foundation the possibilities would be endless.
...But isn't that your entire job description? =)Yeah, again TFP can't help it if people misunderstand Beta.
My comment about Pong was a cheap shot (for the humor), I know. Bringing up Telltale is nearly on the same level. It is a totally different genre. The thing is people wanted a story mode, otherwise Telltale wouldn't have made so much money from it.
Honestly? I doubt they'll be doing paid mods or paid DLC's, but I've been wrong before.I'm not expecting something of the scope and scale of those Bethesda games from an indie developer of course, that would be unrealistic expectations. Just a basic main quest and some side quests with more interactions in the world would be fine with me.
Are you suggesting paid mods like Fallout 4? That doesn't seem to be working all too well for Bethesda haha.
His entire job description is to misunderstand beta? That explains soooo much!...But isn't that your entire job description? =)
My point is the story mode wouldn't have sold so well if people actually didn't care for a story in Minecraft. I actually thought there was a story mode in it at first. Both a story and creative mode, somewhat like in 7 Days. The lack of features and objectives is one of the many reasons why I never played it.With the same argument you could call for jump-and-run passages because Super Mario made so much money from it.
We can only wish TFP are not as greedy as Bethesda, haha.Honestly? I doubt they'll be doing paid mods or paid DLC's, but I've been wrong before. It just doesn't seem like their style.
If there was a story mode in the first place then there wouldn't have been such a need to add more to it afterwards. Since the story mode sold so well, it would have been a selling point for the game orginally as well.People liked story mode because they liked Minecraft and hoped it would add more to the game.
There was no need. No one, and I mean NO ONE, I know who plays mc, has had any desire for a story mode.If there was a story mode in the first place then there wouldn't have been such a need to add more to it afterwards.
