Well said, eating/farming is not supposed to be a side thing in a game like this. I think pimps are going in the right way.

Who said anything about making foraging nonviable? That's quite the collection of straw-men you have there.
Here's an idea...

Have farming, foraging AND scavenging as viable ways to combat hunger. That way people can try more than one play style instead of being forced down one path.
In a fantasy world where TFP's time and resources are unlimited.

I haven't read the last 2500 pages of posts or even kept up with the new stuff coming in a17, but this last page seems to be focused on some changes to farming? I remember a few alphas back when starvation was something to worry about. They seem to go to extremes, in one alpha you starve constantly, the next you have such an abundance of food you never even think about it. Right now there is no need to farm, you find so much food that it's not even something I think about. Most towns and even traders have farms with plenty of food to just grab. I usually don't even bother to cook anything other than tea.

But it's not just food that goes to extremes. Remember the alpha when there were huge cliffs being generated and all the ore was visible and could be mined just on the side of the cliff? Never had to worry about iron or anything like that. Then there was the alpha where you had to find little areas of sand and start digging down to find a small bit of iron.

Oh, and lets not forget the alpha where every night was horde night. That was actually a lot of fun, but they patched it pretty fast. Or the broken leg release? lol, you could literally break your leg from just running. It was like everyone had an extreme case of osteoporosis.

And my personal favorite, the release where you could overheat and die while being naked in the snow. /weathersurvivaloff was your best friend during that one.

It's a balancing act, there are so many systems to balance and sometimes they go too far the other direction, but eventually they seem to find a good balance.

Personally I like a challenge in all areas, fighting off zombies with basic equipment because you are starving and need to find some food. Survival where you have to worry about more than one thing to survive. Sorry, my post didn't really have a point, or I've forgot it.

Time is not unlimited, you have the horde clock always ticking. Resources are not unlimited, you must work to get them. Any more straw-men you'd like to parade?

Given that I haven't done a day's farming IRL I'd say a fantasy game would be a good place to indulge that... fantasy.

That was one of my favourite alphas - in fact I had it installed again recently.

The nice thing about it was, if you started whacking the ore for too long, some quite impressive hordes would show up.

In fact, it was nice when just hacking at boulders with a stone axe would bring a horde within minutes.

Lol, this had to be faatal

YES! Pay to win!
Purchase 500 farming crystals for $2.99 and use them to make your crops grow 3x as fast for a short time.

Purchase 500 foraging bucks for $2.99 and use them to harvest mats 3x as plentifully for a short time.

Purchase 500 scavenging tokens for $2.99 and use them to make containers have 3x as many canned goods for a short time.

Or you can watch an ad to get one of those benfits for 30 seconds.

Or did you mean play? ;)

One letter makes an L of a difference...
dont scare me. but sounds like a ♥♥♥♥ mobile game.

You need to reread my post.

Okay, I read the edited version.

Since farming is already a mechanic it would also take time and effort to remove it. There will then be a lot of people complaining about the removal of a core mechanic. Given that a lot of work as already been put into farming it would be a waste to just delete it.

Having a self-sufficient farm is part of my endgame as it would be in a true survival situation. You can't scavenge tinned food forever and farming could easily be described as very efficient foraging. Instead of wandering all day in the hope of finding a potato it makes much more sense to make an area where your potatoes can roam around in relative safety.

What about console versions when do we see a update . This is why most of the people that paid for the game for console don't want to play it any more cause we don't get any info
