Hello,
I guess the first thing I'd like to ask for is a very intricate SOP for a Win10 64 bit PC on how to start and manage a ded server for 7 Days to Die. I started one using the very basic 'How-to's" I've been able to find and it definitely took a few to piece together what I needed to start the ded server I was able to start. I ran it for many months until that last update (1.2) and now there are some major problems. The ded server, so far runs fine that I know of but no one has connected to it because of the main issues I now have so I don't know how good or bad gameplay is currently.
1. The issue is that after the update, my config file has been over-written with the generic config. I backed up the generic config when I started the server but never backed up my custom config so it is now gone completely?
2. I had created a custom world for my ded server using the in game tools. I copied this over to the ded server from my single player game after I created it and before it was ever played. Basically, I created the world and moved it over to the ded server for multiplay. But now I don't know where or what or how it is. I tried to look in the Worlds directory and have no idea how to find it since all the names are the generic world sizes. I don't remember the size I used for that world. I tried to gander at the biome .pngs but none really looked like what I remember the world to look like in game. Did the update erase my map or save over it with the generic creations?
My friends and I progressed pretty far in that world and it would be ashamed if it was just gone.
3. If the world and config file are still there, somewhere, I'd love to get them back. The config I can probably re-create but the world with our progression can't be recreated and would have to be started over from the beginning. Is there a way to find my created world and get it back?
4. Is there a web interface for server management or do I need to download someone's modded server management interface? It seems a bit strange to me to have a ded server available with no way to interface with it unless a player made interface is downloaded. Admittedly I've only ran one ded server in the past and that was for UT. But it had a built in webserver interface that made it easy and it didn't have as many options.
I'm not a tech guru or anything, I just wanted a pretty standard server that my friends and I could connect to even when I wasn't playing. I just watched some YT and read some 'How-to's" and started a basic server with a custom world made with the in game tools. I don't know what most of the jargon in the config file really equate to. I just named my game, tried to put some info for display (which I had problems with and need help on that too), set the difficulty, and that's about it. Truthfully, I don't think I updated the server for the first update because I thought it did it automatically, and maybe it did. Because our clients updated and we were still able to join the server with no problems. This time, after updated my client, when I tried to connect to the server it was red and wouldn't let me connect. So I updated it. Except I loaded up Steam on my ded server and updated it that way. Was that the wrong way to do it? I've seem some threads saying to use the SteamCMD but I have no idea how. I used it to install the ded server but never used it since.
But this is why I'd like to find a very intricate SOP for creating, starting, and managing a ded server for 7 Days to Die. And I mean instructions that even explain how to add the info to the server info display window. I couldn't figure out how to carriage return and center text. So yeah, I can't even do something that simple, lol.
