I'm not even really sure what else could be done to penalize death.
If you life longer than

1 hour get 500% xp

2 hour get 550% xp

3 hour get 600% xp

4 hour get 650% xp

5 hour get 700% xp

6 hour get 750% xp

7 hour get 800% xp

8 hour get 850% xp

9 hour get 900% xp

10 hour get 1000% xp

50 hours get 1100% xp

100 hours get 1200% xp

1000 hours get 1300% xp and a pretzel

But sure reduce the basic XP to 1/10

Its a nice BUFF, BONUS, REWARD or ?

Anyone feel harmed or offended ?

I play dead is dead so I voted other. A buddy of mine has Parkinson's and a death penalty is pretty brutal for him. I'd tie it to difficulty level. Easiest difficulty=No penalty and so on.

Disincentivize death as a means to instantly clear any annoying debuffs like broken legs or infection or to use death as a quick teleport.
I see the logic now, I just think that the current penalty is far too much.

I play with a group of guys who range from fairly hardcore survival gamers to super casual (in 7DtD terms). For those on the casual end of the spectrum, this death penalty will be a rage quit and never play again.

If the death penalty is here to stay, could we get a setting separate from the difficulty setting (much like the zombie run setting is separate) for this duration, with a “no death penalty” option?

Alas, it is NOT a punishment to a great many people. In fact, to them, it is the cure to what is currently ailing them. I don't say this because I think what they choose to do affects me and my own gaming. I say it because it isn't surprising that TFP would want to close exploits where they find them.
The fact that other people are lame means that I get an annoying penalty added to 7DtD. Ugh.

I think it’s important to remind TFP that the player base in these forums is much more hardcore than gamers in general. The fact that something like 20% of poll respondents dislike this change should indicate that a much higher percentage of less hardcore gamers will dislike it.

Please, put an option in to get rid of this penalty.

There is. You can edit the XML's and put in pretty much whatever value you want for the duration of the penalty.
I want it in an OPTION not a MOD because we had some problems historically getting modded games to work for everyone in our group.

Well, that's just life. I mean TFP is already softening the game down and making it less brutal than it was. That means that all the people who liked it more brutal are going Ugh because all the people who wanted it easier are getting their way. There will always be one segment ughing due to another segment being happy with changes.

Well you have to be careful here because a penalty isn't a penalty if people like it. I WANT the penalty in the game because it makes death more meaningful and I recognize the importance of that. But I'm not whooping in delight when I die and get to spend the next 30 minutes playing as a more vulnerable character.

The telling stat is not who likes or dislikes the penalty it is who would not play A17 at all because of it either by reverting to a previous version or uninstalling the game altogether. Everyone else can stomach it and continue to play and by hating it they will try all the more to be careful when death is on the line. So far only 2.3% say they dislike it so much they'll stop playing. Modders don't count because they're willing to change the game however they wish and they will continue to play A17 modded.

Even if this forum doesn't accurately reflect the community, 2.3% isn't going to change that much. If you know more people who will quit over this feature then get them on to vote.

I just hope that they will stick to their vision and not be swayed by reflexive feedback more than they should. I am just saying that because A17 had most of the things I wanted

Oh god! I can only imagine the outrage now from some modders :biggrin-new:

You made the mistake of not parsing that one little three word phrase out all by itself. Now I’ll only get 1/4 the hate mail :p

I disagree. When determining how much of the playerbase likes or dislikes the death penalty in game, you ought to be looking at the sum of "The penalty should be removed. I'll play but it's not fun", "I won't play the game with this penalty. I'll mod it out", "I won't play the game with this penalty. I'll revert to A16.", and "I won't play the game with this penalty. I'll uninstall it".

If you're just trying to gage how many people you are pissing off, then I agree - that is the "telling stat". Doesn't mean people like or dislike it with just the one vote.

The modders should probably count as double, since they put forth effort to avoid the badness.

People don't like change. Fact. People want it all now. Fact. People need to be taught what they like. Fact.

/managing people since 1971

The penalty is fine as long as it can be mitigated, aka, lowered incrementally by gaining exp/killing zombies.

I play the odds. Once this ♥♥♥♥show settles down you'll see I'm right.
Stop talking about the playerbase like they are children. Just because most of them live in their parent's basement doesn't make them children.

Expressing opinion as fact, sounds more like a politician than anything.

It's not the playerbase, it's people in general. Most are sheep, who need to be managed.

I don't mind. =)

I don't see why debated items can't just be put in the screen with bars at the start of a server to modify it as one wishes. Idk how hard that is but it seems like it could make more people happy than not.
