I think that's one of the most confusing aspects of the game, including the past couple alphas. I have a hard time figuring out if time units are in game-time, or real-world-time. I'd much prefer to see it shown in game-time since we're already tracking days and hours in game-time for other reasons.
We had that at one time and it was horribly confusing.

Dead is dead, so I'm indifferent to the death penalty in SP terms.

For MP I think 30 minutes is much more reasonable during daily play. However: 30 minutes during a blood moon horde (as they were in b199) may as well be an hour, you stand little to no chance with ferals, wights, irradiated spiders and policemen running around.

Because it's moddable, and assuming it stays that way, I'll just mod it to whatever I want. I've been playing with it at 60 minutes without any major problems, if it changes to 30 I'll probably not bother to set it back to 60, but I'll see.

So you want something like paid loot boxes because RNG will not guarantee you a mining helmet within a specified amount of game time? There are no plans for this, sorry.
Maybe there is a bit of a misunderstanding about how this is designed. The game is not intended to automatically fix all possible problems for you.

The game creates the problems. It's up to you to avoid or overcome them. ;)
No... good Lord no. Not what I'm saying at all. I'm just saying the penalty is ridiculously to high and not a good way to go about doing the penalty. 1 hour real time is a lot of gamer's entire game time. (not mine) but I have bout this game for 7 people and ALL of them have stopped playing because of it. I know this is experimental stage and things are being changed that's why I'm speaking on the issue because they wont.

What I am saying is RNG is a beast at times. No matter how hard you try you can't always be prepared.

Sometime you are lucky, sometimes not. XXXX happens...

However, Making someone that doesn't have 2k+ hours game experience miserable for and hour and basically unplayable because RNG is just stupid.

You will lose more than you gain.

I don't buy into the idea of going AFK or sitting in the base doing nothing waiting for the timer to empty just because your actions will be suboptimal during that time. Go out and do stuff while your weak. Knowing you are vulnerable and a dog pack could show up is what makes it scary.
No Roland I was not in a corner quivering, I was crying like a little school girl, for like 5 sec because I died during bloodmoon away from my base at someone else's. I voted for 15min for the death CURSE...lol.... The bag drop however hurts because of this cause I don't like to stay in my own base on horde night and yes, I should have dropped another sleeping bag. My bad. But it took my that long to get back with No stamina just to see my bag disappear right in front of my eyes. That really hurt....lol

Just what happened. Love what has changed in A17. Gotta rethink everything.

I was a bit late to the game and started at Alpha 15. I've found the real-time units to be very confusing. Would adding some kind of indicator that it refers to real-time instead be considered?

I have also voted "other" as I also play dead is dead.

I haven't even seen the death penalty description or effect, as if I die I delete my save game and start again - always!

I wish there was a poll option to add an incentive or buff for people who stay alive!

Come on fun pimps, make a tasty bonus to the dead-is-dead style of gameplay to encourage people to stay alive and not use death as an easy way out!

I am slightly concerned that the game wants us to die and we possibly get harder hoards as a result of us not dying because of the Game-stage, people playing dead-is-dead should get rewarded, not penalised :)

I'm somewhat afraid of this myself. I have a suspicion that my BF and one of my colleagues would probably stop playing--they're not taking part in the experimental, so I can't say for sure.

My BF was a really hard sell; I let him try my game and he gave up in ten minutes. I convinced him to give it a few more tries, most ending with a scream or sigh. I suggested he play without zombies to practice. Eventually I convinced him that playing with a group of 7 was completely different from SP, and that he'd have the protection of the group. He got addicted and joined us for the ~130 days of our last map in A16. Though he's a casual gamer, so he's probably not within the target demographic for this game. His niche was supplies--crafting ammo, traps, and cooking food for us.

My coworker is more into farming and medicine, and slightly shies away from the fighting. He likes the "easier" aspects of the game, and has fun playing a "support" role. But he's not nearly as casual as my BF. I'm not sure that he'll want to play with this penalty; he does die a lot, usually when he's not watching his own back.

That said, I don't think the rest of my group is going to care. I think most will dislike it, but not enough to stop playing.

Why not make Death Penalty depend on difficulty setting? 5mins on easiest, 30 on default, 60 on insane. Something like that.

Tantalus

Well its named 7 days to DIE. So yes j believe they want us to die.

Well on Dead is Dead you can pretend that Day 1 is a dream... yeah, I like that!

So, Day1, die 500 times. Its just a dream, like when the zombies are eating your corpse: "just a flesh wound", Monty Python would agree.

With 500 (Dream) deaths, you can now sail through the first 100 days in peace and happiness.

I'm with Oz on this.

That said, if possible, I think it would be better to have it as an option. So for casual players, we can just choose 'no penalty' or '15mins death penalty', while hardcore players can go for '30mins' or even '60mins' if they want. It will cater better to all player bases and if players wish to, they can scale it up or down whenever they feel like it.

Yes, and its marketed as a SURVIVAL game so I think they also want us to survive!!

There should be a bonus/buff/reward for survival (for dead-is-dead) and a penalty for death.

I haven't experienced a death penalty yet, but from reading about it, my question is what is the purpose of the death penalty?

You survive and then you die. :D

But a buff for every 7th day alive would be a nice incentive.

Other. Knowing I'm immortal and can't lose = zero risk, no fun for me.

Dead is dead, the only way.

I think a dev posted how to easily change the time in xml files. Death penalty shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Disincentivize death as a means to instantly clear any annoying debuffs like broken legs or infection or to use death as a quick teleport.
