PC Cooking has now become obsolete

I need 3 of the top tier foods (chili dogs or sham chowder) to be full again. That is a near 12% chance of needing to eat double that.
Except that's exaggerated, and the unexaggerated bad parts only happen if you're stupid about it. On average if you puke, that's less than once per week on average, you lose half of your capacity (1,2 or 3) averaging 2, so even being completely stupid it costs you about two stews a week. Drop one point into iron gut and you're down around 1.5. Drop three points (another fort for the second gut), you're down below 1 extra stew. Per week. And that's for people who never bother with vitamins at all. Save them for when you're inexplicably low on food and you've got the entire situation handled, you've learned a (gasp!) survival skill.

The horror.

It isn't that black and white. Eating grilled meat for the first half of your breakfast and filling up with canned meat reduces food loss greatly. Vitamins are common enough to let you feast on meat a few times a week. The only thing you probably should not do is take meat with you on the road as a snack.
Fair enough.... in my own games, I eat canned food until I can make stews. Sometimes, if I'm getting low on canned food, I'll make some bacon & eggs to get by. I have never found the need to make grilled meat, but maybe I've just been fortunate.

*insert witty comeback that I am too lazy to think of since you didn't read what I was saying and imprinted your own presumtion of what I was saying on it*

Never want it easy. Just said its stupid and for what it does, it is only annoying.

50-80 food per poisoning isn't THAT bad. Its just a stupid mechanic that is just rng enough to make you anxious about it.

For example I didnt even notice it was only half of it. Since I was basicially always below that threshhold, because everything sucks stamina like its the end times (ha! get it? because it IS the end times). Now you might say "see that makes it a better design... NO! That makes it even worse. Because now eating above 50% (+30 basevalue) is punishing xD yes it doesnt empty your full stomach... but the design behind it is even more retarded now...

but as Roland already said. If there is a visual animation with chunks, this system is perfect.

Sure does.... but I eat to keep my stamina up
I drink a lot of coffee so I have no problems with stamina. I have read a book that gives me 10% more resources when I have the coffee buff.

Actually, the more I think of it, letting your hunger get as high as possible might be a good thing. Then you can pop a vitamin and fill up, eating 3 or 4 meals all at once with no risk.

Not the key. The icing. Mechanic is already good.
Sometimes your sarcasm is too hard to understand for normal ppl.

Even I who has been here for so long still have a hard time desciding when you (you and gazz mostly) are trolling and when you are honestly thinking that. I mean this is so obviously stupid that I know you are trolling, but otherwise I really have trouble... and I'm not sure if that is such a good idea to write in a forum where new ppl come for information and critique.

No trolling. I disagree with your assessment. In my opinion, you are wrong. You can explain your view a billion different ways but what it boils down to is that you don't like it and I do. Period.

You can sit there aghast and scratch your head at my unbelievable stupidity for thinking the design is a good one. I recognize it isn't the only design and there are other good ones as well. But I like this one. I like the anxiety it evokes in me when I eat a cooked dish. I like when it does happen that my plans get disrupted and my next objective is to get back to status quo. I think it is great that there are mechanics that punish the player with a random bad event and instead of the player feeling special and improved at the end of it all they are is just back to normal. There is definitely room in a game such as this for random bad events and punishing mechanics.

There was zero sarcasm in my statement. I like the food poisoning and I believe that 4% is a reasonable chance especially since we have points that can be spent to reduce that chance and vitamins that can also mitigate it. I'm sorry you don't like it. Lucky for you this is in fact easily moddable and there is already in fact a modlet or two available for you.

I am happy when I find vitamins now because of the mechanic. I think it is awesome that it has psyched out so many players into only eating canned foods. It fits right in with people who are afraid to go outside at night. There's really no good reason to stay holed up all night long and yet people do it. There really is no good reason to exclusively eat canned foods and yet people do it. Wonderful!

Now you will want to give me a side by side analysis of why poisoning is nothing like going outside at night but I really don't care. I like it and I hope TFP sticks with it. I hope that was clear and I do sincerely want them to add a visual cue for the vomit-- not to save the feature but to enhance it and add to the hilarity of MP.

...and I'm not sure if that is such a good idea to write in a forum where new ppl come for information and critique.
ATTN NEW FORUM PEOPLE: I seriously 100% endorse the poisoning mechanic as it is currently implemented in the game. There are differing opinions in this thread that are opposed to my viewpoint. Please don't be confused by this. You came to a public forum where you will be exposed to many different viewpoints. Please read them all and make up your own mind and if necessary go to the modding section and get a modlet to remove poisoning if you, like Vik, don't like it. That is all. Have a nice day and welcome to the forums. :)

Okay so this is my time to say sorry. I was actually somehow thinking that you were kidding all this time. That you didn't quite like it but were defending it because it wasn't AS bad as I was making it out to be.

I actually read this and somehow made this connection.

I played at least four different survival/builder games with food spoilage - Rimworld (400+ hours), Empyrion (300+ hours), Mist Survival and Subsistence. They all have food spoilage/preservation mechanics. I don't think I ever read a single comment on the respective web boards stating that food spoilage should be removed from the game. It's natural for survival games and at this point is pretty much expected from any game that claims to be about survival.

Random food poisoning is a very bad substitute for it.

100% agreed.
I am sorry. So it is a bad substitute but a good system. Understood. Sorry for implying sarcasm and probably sounding very passive agressive. Not the intention I wanted to give. I genuinly thought you were sarcastic because you are annoyed at all these comments saying more or less the same.

But serious question... You want to SEE someone barf up? o_o I mean... really? :D Well.. that wouldn't be my cup of tea... but that is up to personal preference :D

Although I don't think animating this would be worth the benefit ^^

As a substitute for food spoilage I am first in line to agree it is a poor implementation. But as it’s own thing I do like it. If they did implement spoilage I would still want this mechanic. In fact I wouldn’t mind if the poisoning mechanic became the food spoilage mechanic if it started out at 0% and then progressed each day to a higher and higher percent chance of causing you to become poisoned.

yes. I can agree with the last part. I still think there would be better penalties... but if it at least has some connection to the rest of the game, I'd be happy with it as well. Especially if it is increasing in % so that large farms are discouraged or freezers (for 6 stacks) that pull 100W are needed.

Please Pleeeeease put a gun to the devs heads and make them do this. :)

Best suggestion in the whole thread, perhaps

Many games already have a spoilage timer for food. I’d love to hear any opposing reasons.

The opposing reason right now is that food spoilage is always a polarizing feature. Many people love it but many people hate it. Any time someone brings up a game in reference to food spoilage you get just as many responses reporting how much they hated it in that referenced game.

TFP is very happy with the game's recent 94% approval rating on Steam and to add a feature that they know will result in angering a good portion of the player base is going to be a hard sell. Only if they were passionate about it would they do it. We've seen them make changes they wanted and stick to those changes even though it ended up turning off a good portion of the community but even they as a team are divided about food spoilage with some all for it and others against it. I don't see it happening except as a mod at some point.

I think it’d be a fine mod. I hear you about the 94%. That’s quite astonishing to see.

I still think A16 has superior gameplay it’s just that A18 looks good enough now, it’s getting higher marks mostly for that reason.

But that’s just what an A16 stodgy guy would say :)
