PC Can we please stop tripple gating Things?

I found the recipe for Exploding bolts and arrows. Which are also gated by steel. Which is also gated by AP arrows! FFS, I am an archer class. It is day 31. I could use both of those things!

I found the recipe for Steel Tools. Which is also gated by finding a crucible or crucible schematic or LVL10 Int. Which is also gated by, not 2, not 4, but 8 steel tool parts PER TOOL. I have exactly 2 steel tool parts. I have yet to find a single Steel Tool in my game and I have been non stop looting and questing for 31 days!

Stop adding perks that cost me points that I cannot use! You guys are always doing this. Every patch it is something. I invested the points in my character to be able to take advantage of these things and you have made those points a complete waste because of your poor game balance!

If you don't want people to use these things then remove them from the damn game.

They aren't a waste. That's like saying Iron Tools are gated because you don't have any iron. Steel tools are a end game luxury, they aren't something you just grab immediately.

If you were progressing via the skill tree you'd get the crucible first then start getting steel tier in a variety of weapons. Since you found the schematic you could save skill points by not getting the perks in tools but you still need the basics.

You can also find crucibles, buy them from traders, get steel from harvesting, buy it from the traders, find steel tools, get them as quest rewards, etc.

Everything has multiple ways to accomplish it now and if you don't get lucky and find every schematic you need then you can buy the perks and get bonuses AND the recipes your missing.

Wrong! you cannot buy the perks and get the recipes! You must find them or buy them and have all the other ducks in a row. Including unicorn ingredients. It's triple gated. That much is clear to anyone. This game does have flaws. I'm not saying that the game is absolute trash or anything. I am just pointing out that somethings are severely over gated. Military armor is another one that is way over gated. There is little point to finding the recipe. You still wont be able to make it.

The recipes are supposed to be a reason for people to leave their bases. They won't bother if the recipes are useless!

There are three tiers of weapons: basic (no perk or schematic required), middle (perk OR schematic required), and top (schematic required). This is by design. If you put one point into Bows, you can now craft any bow at quality level 2, which allows you to craft a better Primitive Bow immediately, and with the proper Bow Parts you can craft a quality 2 Wooden Bow or Iron Crossbow. It also unlocks Iron Arrows and Iron Bolts, allowing you to craft Iron Arrowheads / Iron Boltheads in a Forge with one each of Clay and Iron, and then assemble them the same way you would Stone Arrows and Stone Bolts. In order to craft Steel Arrows and Steel Bolts you must find a schematic, likewise for Compound Bows and Steel Crossbows. This gives meaningful progression instead of being able to rush to top tier weapons in the first few days. This is what is known as solid game design.

This game was made to make YOU cry.

My advice : find a trader, buy the stuff you need to craft whatever you have the recipe for, craft it.

Wrong. You cannot craft any bow. You cannot craft compound bows or crossbows without a perk.

I have a simple task for all of you who disagree. You can't post in this thread until you have crafted your first Steel tool or exploding arrow or bolt. Gonna be a real quite place around here. And buying steel arrows and bolts from the trader does not count. You have to craft them full stop.

This game was made to make YOU cry. My advice : find a trader, buy the stuff you need to craft whatever you have the recipe for, craft it.
My advice to you: Don't assume anything, because it makes an ass out of you and me. I have found four traders and I visit all four of them every time they restock. Not once have I seen Steel Tool Parts or the AP arrow book.

I don't know. Maybe it's a bug (an oversight). So your initial post should have be : "does somebody have found Steel Tools Parts at a trader ?"

And stay polite, it costs nothing.

False, you can buy the perks and get the recipe or find the recipe. You just also need to find some parts to craft some items like steel tools. Recipes are not useless.

For instance I found the recipes for steel crossbows, bows, etc so I don't need to put any perk points into the perks to craft them. I still need basic ingredients like steel, and crossbow parts though. Those can be gotten via multiple ways and are what encourage people to leave their bases.

The difference in A18 is you can get lucky with RNG OR buy the perk directly now. Either way you still need to loot or trade for ingredients to make the end game stuff.

go out and loot crack a book tower, the huge church is full of books also, same with the day care and a few other places.

wth do you mean don't buy them from the trader? dude stop complaining and work for the perks and stuff you want. day 31 is nothing especially if you spent the first 7 days just mining in a hole because you didn't want to get wrecked by the zombies.

how about this if you feel that you are so entitled to those things just spawn it in or make loot 200% and experience at 300% so you can get the stuff faster.

I swear most gamers these days just want stuff asap and don't want to work for anything.

We are on day 10 on our server and I just crafted everyone purple iron tools that I can make. Have enough steel parts to make 1 steel tool atm. Could get more but haven't bothered to buy them from trader as they really aren't needed atm.

It's not that hard to get them if you really want, but its slow enough that your not gonna be mass producing them. Considering they don't ever degrade that's a good compromise.

I tried to craft a steel “full stop” but I must not have that recipe yet.
*giggle*

But yeah, crafting steel is kinda too easy lol you don't need a perk for it. Bookstores and traders are your friends. I found a forge schematic, advanced bellows (both the thing itself and the schematic), and a crucible schematic. I was able to craft steel from then on out.

Fantastic. You have no actual rebuttal so you resort to clowning around like a teenager. Sick burn bro. So now you are the cool kid and I am just a nerd for wanting the archer class to have the same balance as a gun user.

How to craft AP ammo:

Step one. Find AP schematic. Craft it.

How to craft Explosive arrows.

Step one. Find schematic.

Step two. Find/buy/perk a crucible.

Step 3. Find another schematic.

I can feel the balance all over my face mate.

I mean... you have multiple options I don't know what the issue is :( Do you want to unlock everything you need automatically once you find the explosive arrows schematic? The game would be over in 7 - 10 days.

All the core items in the game are unlocked via skills. I'd have to check the explosive arrow one, but as its been said its easy to get into steel. Find the schematics or spend a few skill points in it. There are a few speciality items under perks that are different but they are not required and are pretty OP and governed by luck.

You can also buy steel from the trader, dismantle items for steel, buy the arrows, or use other methods to get them as well. I get them as quest rewards semi often too.

What multiple options are there. You keep saying that but no one has done it yet. Show me where to get 24 steel tool parts! You can't.

Same old argument same repeated BS.

Find a schematic for something useful to you. I don't care what it is. Now, you can't actually craft it until you also can craft steel and you find another schematic and tons of unicorn parts.

You can craft a M60 just by finding the schematic and scrapping a single AK. You have to find and scrap how many steel tools just to be able to make a single one. Complete horse crap. There are no multiple options. You must have 8 steel tool parts for one tool!

So, if TFP want to balance this then every schematic you find, should be useless to you until you can craft steel and find a bunch of unicorn parts or find yet another schematic.

Or they could just make the things my build uses as easy to come by as all the rest. How would you rather have it?

All the core items in the game are unlocked via skills.
No they are not. Not even close. Can you make AP arrows via skill? Can you make an M60 via skill? Can you make a steel tool via Skill? The answer to all those questions is NO You absolutely cannot. Come back to this thread when you have crafted a steel tool or even found the 8 steel tool parts you need to craft just one.

Trader, run some quests, buy from them. loot some POI's, check cars, etc. It's going to take some time but the entire point is once you get your 24 steel tool parts you've crafted an end game item that's going to last you for the next 12,000 days. So yeah, it takes some work to get but it lasts FOREVOR with no degradation.

That is the trade off.

Also the steel tool parts required increase with the quality of the tool. So the only reason your having to use so many parts is because you raised your tool skills high and are making high quality versions. A lower quality steel tool only takes a handful of components just like the low quality m60 does.

Personally i'd rather have to work for my end game items rather then having everything maxed out after a few days of playing.
