Can we just have an extended backpack instead of the drone?

look, some of us are dumb. i don't want to have to do quick maths while a zombie is biting me bum so i know if i should pick up the two blueberry pies or the ranger hat when i am near capacity
Why would you need to do any maths?

Going over the weight limit doesn’t kill you or stop you from picking things up. You just get slower depending on how overloaded you are, basically the same kind of penalty vanilla already has.

So grab the pies, grab the hat, deal with it later. You’re arguing against a problem that isn’t even there.

I see nothing wrong with backpack mods and you can use those in the same slot you're using underwear. That would be interesting because a person could put every slot with a backpack mod and deal with the consequences or try to find a comfortable mix and match. And then if you're going to make a quality level one mod that only adds one extra slot to your backpack, make sure the mats are worth it and don't make it use 10 steel bars or something like that

I am also noticing that the drone isn't near me when I want to dump items in it sometimes. Tracking it down can be a pain. I propose we get a hotkey to summon it directly in front of us.
Agree on a new hotkey but it should be "come to me but behind me" as that could be used in combat as well, when it gets between you and the zombies for some stupid reason. Alternatively we would need two new hotkeys which I could also live with.

two things; first thing; having limits implies a consequence for exceeding then so you throwing in that there is no consequence for ignoring weight limits aside from vanilla slow-down with a functionally infinite storage space seems rather lacking in thought when the alternative is just having more space without adding the encumbrance bs. you are suggesting adding more complication for no pay-off and not seeing why it would be a problem
second thing; i already had to choose between items when encumbered before the 3.0 update and at that time it was a raw-number thing; +1 slot filled = slow down. changing it to be weight-dependent means i have to know the weight of what i am picking up and add that weight to my existing weight to know how much of a slow-down i can "afford". have you never in your life had a full inventory in this game? do you not see how adding even more calculations would be a slog and a detriment to smooth game-play? seriously x''D what a dip.

Why the hostility? The two systems are different, but not by much. The current one can "jam" you into a looting decision when you run out of slots; a limitless slot, weight limited system would not. Or at least might not, depending on the implementation.

The calculations are largely a function of the inventory UI; if they're displayed poorly, then getting used to it will be annoying. But nothing's stopping a UI from showing total weights on the items and your total free capacity, clearly. I'm sure you can compare two numbers to see which is bigger rather trivially :P
