Burnt Forest Shrooms

The challenge for the Burnt Forest survival mentions "Patches of Regrowth" as the forest attempts to heal.

Curious if these "patches" can be seen using the map to easily locate mushrooms in the biome. Anyone explore this yet? Anyone find any caves in the Pine Forest?

I haven't looked, but I doubt mushrooms will appear on the map. About the only way I'd expect any indication is if they were to add the display similar to the tutorial challenges for rocks, wood, or feathers while you have that challenge pinned. And maybe they already did that. I haven't pinned the biome challenges to see.

The caves are just wilderness POI. Unless they have set them to not be placed in the forest, they should have a chance to randomly appear there, just like any other wilderness POI.

I'm 99% sure that's just fluff text. The mushrooms just show up randomly without anything special around them in terms of "regrowth".

Good call on that. You can pin the challenges and track the resources. Thx.

Also I was thinking more of the patches of regrowing soil that the shrooms grow in might be visible on the map, similar to how in past versions you could easily spot fertilizer in the Burnt forest using the map.

I also used a handy tip someone mentioned, that you can take mushroom seeds you've found and plant them in the Burnt forest to harvest later and they count towards the challenge. Add the Living Off the Land perk and you've got plenty of shrooms in no time.

The Smoothies are 200 Dukes each so not bad for selling after the challenge is completed.

@Lax Whenever you get to the edge of the pine forest and the burnt forest, look for sparse patches of grass in the burnt forest. You'll find the mushrooms in those grass patches in the burnt forest.
Yup, exactly what I was wondering about. I'm over there now exploring to see If any areas that are obviously different on the ground are visible from the map.

I noticed that the ore nodes for iron, nitrate and rocks are larger squares on the map while oil shale and coal are much smaller and harder to locate.

Yeah the first time I read the description for the challenge, I just happened to see some shrooms about 15m from me in a patch of grass in the burnt forest. that's when it dawned on me where it's easiest to find shrooms. But when I first start a map, if I find shroom seeds, I plant them at my temp base. Gives me a head start on those so by the time I'm ready for that biome, I should have plenty for a few smoothies.

Thanks. I didn't have any mushrooms and by looking for those little patches of grass, I found all I needed.:D

They do show up randomly, but I've definitely noticed patches of green in the burnt forest where mushrooms are typically more abundant. I had much more luck finding them in these patches than randomly elsewhere.

It is a literal sub-biome in the burnt forest. Defined in xmls, with this preceding comment:
<!-- *** Burnt Forest: Sub Biome: Mushrooms, Thick Grass, and Shrubs -->

huh. I never saw one when I was looking for them, but I am notoriously unobservant.

Attempt? THE FOREST IS STILL BURNING i don't get why they keep saying that
Yeah, their implementation of the burnt forest is kind of dumb. This game doesn't feel like it's set within just a short time (a month or something) of the end of the world. It feels like it's at least many months afterwards. The burnt forest should not be burning anymore. But they like the visuals and so they ignore realism. I actually don't much care about it, but I can see how it bothers people.

It feels like a week or less because the power is still up, there is plenty of loot, some zombies looks fresh

But some pois look like years and weapons look like they are made so due to lack of resources. Shovels for stocks... alot of shovels.

The old alpha made somewhat sense cuz guns look new ish

The mushrooms are definitely more abundant in the small regrowing patches. I would recommend searching for them in flatter areas of the burnt biome as well.

Some cave POIs also have biome specific harvests in them as well. (E.g. mushrooms in burnt, blueberries in the snow)

Can the cave POIs on 2.0 still be seen from the map like on older versions, like cracks in the ground?

Supercorn should be fine once you start to farm it. I hope the Radiated Shrooms are somewhat plentiful. It's the acid I'm a little concerned about.
