PC Bicycle sound effect

I need to vent :D

I really like my bike, wanted this since A9 when walking became a pain.

Now we got it and the sound effect is a joke. Really @TFP. If you Google for like 2 minutes you find buyable soundeffects for a bike while pedaling and while running free. This is simply lazy.

It's the 4x4's sound that annoyes me. It's fine at first then it switches to this higher pitched race car sound as you speed up and becomes kind of comical given how slow it is :D

It really got to me, because if I was to implement a nice new feature I'd like to make it shine, especially if it's as easy as decent sound effects.

Why don't you link some sounds, that could help the devs. And I'm having a hard time to find sounds that could be used, so I would be happy if you shared the result of your 2 minutes googling ;) Thanks.

Why should I? I am a customer, it's not my job to find them sound effects.

TFP is a game development studio, it's literally their job.

However, there are even some in the unity asset store:

Google comes up with plenty, e.g. royalty free and free for commercial use:

So despite you trying to be cute, the ease of access and the low price on licenced sound effects just underlines my statement.

Nicely done.

That's how you deal with passive aggressive comments properly.

I recommended downshift and upshifting sounds when going up or downhill... the constant droning feels a bit tedious.

Theres a mod to give all the vehicles unique horn sounds.. why those weren't added is beyond me. the bicycle bell ring is priceless!

I wasnt 'passive-aggressive', just a little mocking.

People who define themselves primarily as "customers" make me rather laugh. The initial post seemed to be a real request, but in fact it was just to put the word "lazy" in. Nothing great, in the end.

On the other hand, I thank you for your remark, which is not passive at all ^^. I wish you one day to have to make the effort to express yourself on a forum in another language than yours, and to be received like a ♥♥♥♥: you'll see, it's very encouraging.

First and foremost I am a customer. Secondly I am a backer and backed this game years ago and I bear with it being an Alpha for prolly a decade but I expect something in return.

The gaming industry seem to have people so far that they're thankful they need to prepurchase an unfinished product and expect nothing during early access until it's finished (if ever)

And yes, it was a real request: One not to be lazy.

Adding the sound effect is literally drag'n'drop in Unity.

The fact that the bike goes slower up- and faster downhills already shows they got those signals.

The fact it uses stamina while pedaling and that you use the arrow key to do so, shows they got those signals as well.

Buying some sound assets linking them to the signals is easy and the bike, despite it's gruesome mount animation suddenly seems polished.

So it's literally a matter of not being lazy and spending a little time to deliver a new feature decently instead of having a bike that sounds like a pirate is dragging a limp pegleg through gravel and have users think: "Do they even bother anymore?"

And the bicycle "bell" is just hilarious. They had time for that, which I appreciate, but not the other sounds.

Unrelated: How do I honk on PC while mounted? :D

The first package is just gears and the second is just a random youtube vid so neither are suitable. There are a lot of stolen assets out there (even on Unity) so they need to make sure they get them from reputable sources or make their own with a foley artist.

Again, random examples, to show there is a metric ♥♥♥♥ton on audio and sfx libraries out there where you can buy those assets.

And yes, just gears but it is better than the scraping sound the bike currently has.

And yes, you have to make sure they are properly licensed - one could even argue that it's TFPs job ;)

And getting them from a reputable source is easy. I worked as 3d artist for a movie studio for a few years, you can buy flatrates or packages or individual songs and soundeffects at so many sources.

That's my whole point.

It's easy to get properly licensed sound effects and they are not expensive. Implementing the bike with this half assed sound effect just reflects badly on the game and TFP, like they don't care anymore. "Let's just put anything there, why bother and release it"

Then again, I am afraid they rushed this release completely due to the fact that it was before Christmas and Holidays and that it takes a civilzation to rise and fall by now between releases. So there might not have been time. The state of A17 shows that there wasn't time for a lot of things lol.
