PC Anyone else think this version is a big pile of stinking Krap?

Just like people who hid underground needed to be forced to the surface in some peoples opinion, people mining safely and easily on the surface needed to be driven below ground. Fair is fair!
Am I missing some hidden danger in underground mining? Seems the only danger is falling asleep.

1. Rocks and gravel fall on your head

2. Zombies dig down to get you.

3. You burn up lots of max stamina digging. Spend all your time digging means no time to look for food.

The progression is slower which I don't really care for but.
"Lot of text snipped for space"

There are some glaring issues but over all it's great. Not a big fan of pointless sneak skills that will never help on night 7 or schems that never drop but, it's a fair cry better than the assbaggery retardness of The Long Dark.
I agree totally with all your points and I thank you for saving me the time to write them down.

However we do have one difference. IMHO A18 is not great. To slow is the first opinion. Having a hard time tracking what schematics I've learned is a second. And I love The Long Dark! Pure survival at itنs best.

Like someone said A16 >A18 and we all know A17 sucked elephant balls....

1) Elevators gone.
What elevator? You mean the hatch exploit? Because they have not added any elevator to the game. So it is impossible for them to remove one.

2) Book... Books books... i want to build and kill i dont want to read 7 books and a full page.. oh wait.. there are 2 hidden on the 2nd page.. TO MANY GOD BLESSED BOOKS!!
So don't read them. They are extra perks that are not required to play the game. If you don't want to interact with them, then don't.

3) Note #2, Let me pick what i want to learn. like in 17V
You already pick what you want to learn just like in a17.

4) Storage.. Remove the brown piece of krap box and put the larger square ones back!!
The larger square ones still exist. They are under furniture in the shape picker menu.

5) Transport speeds.... OMFG the dam bike is faster than the truck!... and the Gyro is SLOWER than the truck. It take 50 min to make a truck Chassis.. but only 3 min to but the ENTIRE TRUCK together.
The purpose of the truck is to carry more items and a passenger. Not to go faster, if you need speed then don't bother with the truck. The Gyro is actually faster than anything because you go to places in a straight line. I have a gyro in my game now. I wouldn't trade it in for anything else.

6) Ore colors and bottom of the world color. Need a better distinction between these... Ever see Coal in real life..ITS BLACK! VERY BLACK.
The coal deposits in my game are black. Not sure what is going on with yours. Also, you do know that "In Real Life" Gun powder is not made from fossil coal right? Hardwood charcoal is what it is made from. Preferably from the Willow tree. Nitrates are also not made from Ore. They are made from compositing animal waste. Look up "Nitre Bed". Also, I hope you are aware that "In Real Life" Zombies do not exist.

I have 5000+ hrs playing this game. I FREAKEN LOVE THIS GAME... or the old version.. Why don't you just fix glitches in 17. call it a game and Move on!
I personally thought that A17 was OK but 18 is better to me. Opinions are like... Yea you get the picture.

.
I probably didn't do that right.. again.

The schematics have either an open book or closed book symbol on them. If you know it, it's open.

I don't hate The Long Dark it just has many aspects that seem rather dumb. Can't eat wolves, cabin fever is just dumb, the story makes zero sense, and it's either super easy or impossible not fun. Even the second to the last hardness setting is super easy and then there's interloper. Maybe a pair of socks and no matches.. it's not even worth trying. I hear the second chapter has finally come out. I think i'll pass if the story is as pointless as the first chapter. The only characters you run into blather on and on and on about nothing remotely useful. bleh.

This is the first alpha that I have literally stopped mid game and just said " I have no reason to keep playing" you can tout how high and mighty this alpha is, but if this is TFP vision, then they have visions of garbage.
Recent steam reviews reflect this pretty well also
Recent steam active player numbers are still growing (almost 20K on a work week!).

However, I wish there were more settings for players. For example your MP game should allow for a lower (or higher for some) GS IMO.

1. Ignorable

2. What zombies? The world is so empty of zombies I do not feel this is a concern.

3. Would occur when boulder mining as well, so....?

Mining is finally fun.

If you dont want zombies digging, make an entrance and defend it. They will always prefer the entrance.

I want zombies digging. I JUST WANT ZOMBIES. Doing anything. I don't care what. Just give me some goddam zombies in the world!!!!

What's fun about a day spent down a hole starting at a Pick and rockface? I am genuinely curious. I've been mining 3 days straight in every 7 days and have encountered NOTHING. I thought I'd at least get a Screamer to make the new A18 gameplay (hole-dwelling) marginally interesting, but....nope. Nothing. Nada. No fun allowed. How in hell is Mining FUN????

Depends on the entrance and how far you are from it. I don't know if that has improved, but if you've made a classic mine entrance with a hatch in A17, the zombies have dug down even if the hatch was open. You had to either dig down diagonally or build a staircase like Kage848 did.

But that only worked as long as you stayed close enough around the entrance. Once you were more than about 20 blocks away, the zombies preferred to dig down.

I don't know what's supposed to be fun about these buggers that keep you from work, but I hope in A18 my junk turret can take care of them.

How is hitting a rock above ground really considered mining?

I had a wondering horde on day 2 come dig on top of me when mining. I found an auger and started using it and got like 4 or 5 screamers before the thing ran out of gas 2 times filled full. Guess I'm either lucky or unlucky depending on how one wants to look at it.

How in hell is Mining FUN????
It used to be relaxing for me. But maybe it's because I prefer a calm playing style.

I'm not an FPS player. Has never interested me. Construction games and strategy games are more my thing.

I don't know if that has improved
If you mean since a17, it has improved quite a bit. I hated zombie AI in a17. It's quite better now.

I want zombies digging. I JUST WANT ZOMBIES. Doing anything. I don't care what. Just give me some goddam zombies in the world!!!!
I have been quite lucky with my RWG. I have only played early game, but I get encounters all the time on the outside and the POIs arent swarming, sure, but nicely habitated by zombies. Lets say about 6 in a small POI, 14 in a medium POI, more or less. Havent done big POIs. It's adquate in my game.

I miss roaming hordes tho. havent seen a single one.

1. Ignorable
Rocks hurt. I'd like to see you ignore it in a video.

2. What zombies? The world is so empty of zombies I do not feel this is a concern.
You feeling is irrelevant. Try it before you quess about it.

3. Would occur when boulder mining as well, so....?
Your stated reason why you like surface boulder farming was you could run around explore and do other things while you mined. Being underground means you can't do those other things.

Indeed. That list of items was supposed to make me enjoy underground mining, or at least joyfully accept it as a substitute for my beloved boulder mining. I am simply refuting the listed items one by one.

Rocks hurt till you have some armor. Cave-ins are completely harmless to me now.

As for my 'no zombies' comment. I HAVE tried it. I am talking about it because I have experienced it. 3 days down a hole and I saw no zombies. I saw nothing, except a rockface. Riveting gameplay.

Sounds like you might be playing the wrong game then. Most games with resource gathering are going to involve some mindless grinding. Personally, I find mining to be a nice change of pace from looting POIs. That said I never spend 3 days doing it. I’ll spend a couple hours at night mining and then loot during the day.

My point was it wasn't mindless until A18. I found surface boulder mining (A17 and before) to be relaxing, rewarding (outwith the actual resources) and FUN.

I have no desire to convince you to enjoy underground mining. My entire point of posting was to refute this.

Am I missing some hidden danger in underground mining? Seems the only danger is falling asleep.
To refute that point I listed some dangers. Minor as they may be to you they are there. Something is more than nothing. Maybe you got lucky in your 3 day mining adventure. Many, many people are not happy about digging zombies because they do in fact encounter them often enough.

So my list was simply to say there are some more dangers and inconvenience to underground mining that surface boulder harvesting does not have. Simple as that. I'm not saying underground mining is the most dangerous thing in the game or that you should enjoy it.

If you are looking in to getting a new perk that doesnt help at all. Unless ypu happen to have the schematic on you at the time.. I want a way to know what schematics are learned to be able to better plan perk upgrades..

The only characters you run into blather on and on and on about nothing remotely useful. bleh.
Yeah, story mode sucks ballz. I play only sandbox.
