PC Am I playing the same game everyone else is?

~That means that most people are not reviewing.....
I fixed that for you. That tells us nothing about how they feel. I'm playing, but that does not mean that I am having fun. Are there fun parts, sure, but I am mostly trying to get through a level 100+ playthrough to determine if I want to go back to A16 or not. I have not done my review, yet.
Exactly, they are playing. They are not so angry that they stop playing and write a negative review. Also, if you are not having fun, why keep playing? If you are trying to get through to level 100, why put yourself through that. That is the craziest thing I have ever heard. Games are supposed to be a hobby to have fun with. Why keep doing it if you get so much displeasure from it?

That's not how it works. Assuming that everybody who hasn't posted a negative review is "having fun and playing" is simply preposterous.
Then why are they playing? Who the hell plays games to not have fun?

Edit

Also looking at the stats, since A17 experimental was released, it has been the 2nd highest month of average players ever.
This. This should tell you everything.

Every alpha increased its average and peak playerbase by a large margin. A17s top playerbase is 10k below A16s and average players are still quite a bit lower than A16s.

Because I just don't toss away a game that I loved because they made some changes. I give it a fair shot. I feel bad that it seems crazy to you to give something a fair shot before abandoning it.

to be fair I did stop playing A17... but I reverted back to A16... so I actually count towards active players... and I have not left a negative review. :D

I'm going to poll my server after this playthrough to see if they want to go back to A16, some modded, or keep giving A17 a shot.

Did I say "All veterans"? Btw, 1k+ may include 10k also. So you can't have 10x more, than 1000+infinity. Just being pedantic, ofc, but I feel like you deserve it ^^
No you didn't sir, but if I say

Dog owners dislike cats - the implications is "All" dog owners dislike cats.

If I say

I think a lot of dog owners dislike cats - Then that accurately expresses my "opinion"

Your statement of "Veteran players" don't like X implies that I do not like X, which is inaccurate since I'm a veteran player who disagrees with your statement. That's all I'm saying. I'm sorry if I came across aggressive that was not my intent. I just feel like we all (myself included) could have more constructive discussions if we understood our opinions of what is "broken" or "sux" about the game were in fact our opinions and not everyone feels the same way. If we could express those opinions while acknowledging others opinions, maybe everyone wouldn't get so up in arms...*shrugs*

And your right, maybe I did deserve it but 1k+ can also include 1001 hours, I can in fact have 10x more - just saying. :)

Unless you are happy only playing modded versions of A16 going forward you should consider leaving that review. They don't seem to be listening much here, maybe they will if the reviews get bad enough.

I'm considering doing the same. My positive review from long ago was for a totally different animal to what this game is now. I just want to wait a bit and see how they respond to all the complaints in the next patch, which I hope will be soonish.

I just can't argue on this point, since english is my second language. It makes sense to me, or, like I can see on this forum, to at least 1 other user here.

Unless I straightly say All, implications are all on you. I said what I wanted to say. That Veterans with over 1k hours are very disappointed with dev team decisions. I dont know if all veterans are disappointed. Dont know if only the ones I know. But I know that the ones I was talking about are disappointed. Just that.

Forgive my skepticism but I find it very hard to believe you have 10k hours played. If so, I salute your dedication.

A17 dropped to the masses on December 23. Go into the steam page and highlight only the reviews from Dec 23 - Current. Last night, only 37% of them had positive reviews.

Background -

The Thanksgiving sale ($9/copy) coincided with A17e release & orchestrated streamer event on Twitch. However, all of the new players were downloading A16.4 by default. You had to opt into the experimental, and it's unclear if new players did so. There was a big spike in positive reviews. However, it was not communicated who was playing which version in order to distinguish the approval of A17e from these two other complicating factors, even though there was a lot of arguing over how to interpret the data. The mods and consensus tended to agree that the true test is when stable releases.

Now -

With the Christmas sale @ $9/copy a around there is a spike of mostly negative reviews. This is surprising on two fronts. One, the game is offered at a significant discount and it's a major public release. A cheaper game should lower critical expectations, so it would lead me to believe the reviews are actually less negative than if people had paid full price. That's a very bad thing.

I'm not sure that steam doesn't count being at the menu screen or not, but this is what it says?

No, you are not playing the same game. You are playing semi-nomadic MP, which was broken the least by the update because that's the kind of game developers mostly play, too.
This totally hit the nail

Hey all,
I've been reading the forums today and there is so much hate for practically all aspects of the game it seems. It's really blowing my mind that so many people are reacting to this update the way they are quite honestly.

My wife and I though are really enjoying this last update. Sure there are things we wish that did/didn't change but in all honestly we are having tons of fun playing through the good and bad parts. Horde nights are insanely fun for us trying to defend our base (And failing pretty hard so far). The trader quest are a nice little mix up from the building and scavenging too. Helps break the cycle up a bit. The new POI are insane especially with the new AI. Also just the fun fact of arrows sticking into the targets have already made some hilarious moments for us (I being a Melee person and my Wife not having the best shot.....ouch)

In the end we are still having fun with the game and we both wanted to say thanks for the hard work put into this game. It's by far both of our favorite game and we can't wait to see what else is in store.

Thanks!
Having played the unstable versions, I have to admit I was VERY salty about the changes, but eventually got over it and really came to love a17 overall. I'm still not super happy about some of the level caps for crafting, but they did adjust the levels to something I can accept (level 20 to make a forge was not fun). For those who went straight from a16 to a17, give them a couple of weeks and see how they feel at that point.

That said, I do still miss some of the 'learn by doing' which was fun in the previous version, even though I loathed how exploitable it was in some cases (e.g. make a million stone axes to improve crafting). If there was any change I would make it would be to have the ATTRIBUTES be 'learn by doing' and the perks still be points from levels (probably increase the xp requirements to compensate). This would satisfy the 'learn by doing' while also having perks available to spend points on based on how you are already playing. Have it be something like this:

Strength xp:

(low) - Breaking things (inc mining/lumbering)

(high) - Melee attacks on enemies/creatures

(small bonus) - Melee sneak attack

(low) - moving while encumbered (with a cap so you don't do this forever)

Perception xp:

(low) - looting

(high) - Ranged attacks

(small bonus) - sneak attack

Agility xp:

(low) - sprinting/jumping/swimming <- (also with a cap for each, or at least diminishing returns)

(high) - sneak attacks

(moderate) - sneaking undetected near enemies

(low) - being hit in light armor

Fortitude XP:

(high) - Getting hit in heavy armor, bandaging injuries

(low) - vitamins/food/

(moderate) - mining/tree chopping

(low) - Enduring drug side effects

Intellect XP:

(moderate) - Completing quests

(low) - Selling to merchant

(high) - creating something you haven't made before

(moderate) - repairing an item (xp based on the type of item repaired and how damaged it was)

(moderate) - scrapping something you haven't scrapped before

Misc - Reading a magazine that temporarily improves a stat gives you some decent exp towards that stat as well.

I think something like that, if tweaked properly to minimize exploiting would add a lot to this version.

FYI: Gazz, Faatal, Prime, The Fun Pimp, and Madmole play SP almost exclusively and Madmole loves to build big castle bases. So no.

They fixed that in A16.4. You couldn't spam craft anymore.
