Hey all,
I've been reading the forums today and there is so much hate for practically all aspects of the game it seems. It's really blowing my mind that so many people are reacting to this update the way they are quite honestly.
My wife and I though are really enjoying this last update. Sure there are things we wish that did/didn't change but in all honestly we are having tons of fun playing through the good and bad parts. Horde nights are insanely fun for us trying to defend our base (And failing pretty hard so far). The trader quest are a nice little mix up from the building and scavenging too. Helps break the cycle up a bit. The new POI are insane especially with the new AI. Also just the fun fact of arrows sticking into the targets have already made some hilarious moments for us (I being a Melee person and my Wife not having the best shot.....ouch)
In the end we are still having fun with the game and we both wanted to say thanks for the hard work put into this game. It's by far both of our favorite game and we can't wait to see what else is in store.
Thanks!
Having played the unstable versions, I have to admit I was VERY salty about the changes, but eventually got over it and really came to love a17 overall. I'm still not super happy about some of the level caps for crafting, but they did adjust the levels to something I can accept (level 20 to make a forge was not fun). For those who went straight from a16 to a17, give them a couple of weeks and see how they feel at that point.
That said, I do still miss some of the 'learn by doing' which was fun in the previous version, even though I loathed how exploitable it was in some cases (e.g. make a million stone axes to improve crafting). If there was any change I would make it would be to have the ATTRIBUTES be 'learn by doing' and the perks still be points from levels (probably increase the xp requirements to compensate). This would satisfy the 'learn by doing' while also having perks available to spend points on based on how you are already playing. Have it be something like this:
Strength xp:
(low) - Breaking things (inc mining/lumbering)
(high) - Melee attacks on enemies/creatures
(small bonus) - Melee sneak attack
(low) - moving while encumbered (with a cap so you don't do this forever)
Perception xp:
(low) - looting
(high) - Ranged attacks
(small bonus) - sneak attack
Agility xp:
(low) - sprinting/jumping/swimming <- (also with a cap for each, or at least diminishing returns)
(high) - sneak attacks
(moderate) - sneaking undetected near enemies
(low) - being hit in light armor
Fortitude XP:
(high) - Getting hit in heavy armor, bandaging injuries
(low) - vitamins/food/
(moderate) - mining/tree chopping
(low) - Enduring drug side effects
Intellect XP:
(moderate) - Completing quests
(low) - Selling to merchant
(high) - creating something you haven't made before
(moderate) - repairing an item (xp based on the type of item repaired and how damaged it was)
(moderate) - scrapping something you haven't scrapped before
Misc - Reading a magazine that temporarily improves a stat gives you some decent exp towards that stat as well.
I think something like that, if tweaked properly to minimize exploiting would add a lot to this version.
