In a zombieapokalypse there are 2 kind of people, shooting guys and zombiesnacks.

Some zombiesnacks die with the last thoughts like this: " How could this corpselike Zombies still move and do they bleed..."

Well it does´t matter if it wants to eat you, right?

This discussion is so boring and lacks sense so much, why can zombies die from a shot on a toe? We don't know, it's just a game guys.

No one is saying one type of fiction is better than the other, just that in all types of fiction there are contradictions and inconsistencies that are distracting.

As for zombies, they don't have to be dead necessarily. Left 4 Dead has infected people, and it's one of the most renowned zombie games out there.
I also believe the 7D2D zombies are alive.  I bet I can come up with a good 7D2D "Zombie" hypotheses.

1) Airborne Rabies: This is the Number 1 fear of many microbiologists.  My addition: Mutated/Modified(?) to stop after stage two is reached.  Keeping the person enraged but alive.

2) People with prior rabies vaccines would be immune (the player) but a rabies vaccine takes 7 DAYS to kick in! (fact).  Is this why the title is 7 Days to Die?

nope... originally once a player was infected he/she had 7 days to get a cure or die. back in the day the infection hit you in 3 stages the first slowed you down (much like me now with arthritis) and the 2nd even more and health slowly ticked down and the 3rd being the final nail for your coffin. antibiotic was rare and or took a long time to make (25 minutes). :) but things have changed since then.

Zombies are not dead, since dead creatures cannot move without some force acting on them. If they are dead, then it must be the hive mind using telekinesis to move them about.
...blah-blah-blah ... don't be so boring - it's a zombie! They should be impressive, not alive! :) .

Perhaps you have every right to come up with a new kind of zombie - which is "not dead" (haha how stupid it sounds!  :D ). But to do this, you need something (from these zombies) that will make us forget about this nonsense. While it is not. (Bleeding won't do it either)

The player is killed and not turned into a zombie (Yet, maybe A20).  As antibiotics are used, the player is infected with the bacteria (Brucellosis?) which causes weakness.  Other bacteria would be needed to kill the player.

i read a couple of books where the z apocalyps is brought by fungus

maybe TFP is using athlete's foot :D
Ah "The Apocalypse Crusade", great series.  One of the few hard sci-fi book series that go through the entire zombie cycle from start to finish in detail.

that and The girl with all the gifts, and maybe another but didn't recall the title

i read too much cr ap to remember :)

Double devils advocate, maybe they aren't dead, they just quit moving and making noise from loss of blood. Yeah you got XP, but who says its kill xp? Maybe its a plausible victory over that zed xp.

IMO if we were debating a magic virus that brings people back from the dead or a transitory state from death to a new zombie like semi functional state, they would still probably need blood circulating to keep rigor mortis from setting in, which makes a corpse still and limbs difficult to bend. In that sense perhaps bleeding out would incapacitate a zombie. Perhaps they have a very slow heart beat so they are colder but still sort of function. With a very slow heart rate, etc they might not need as much oxygen either or be able to survive for hours underwater making them seem undead.

At any rate a virus could do some very weird stuff at a cellular level and cause an organism to function differently that what we perceive as possible. Its best not to get caught up in those details because most lack an imagination sufficient to suspend disbelief.  I like some things to be vague because those with imagination can make it fun and whatever they want. That is why we have a lot of options to make the zombie sim "feel" how you want it to without us being heavy handed and tied down to lore.
Okay, Okay, I can respect the wordsmithing, let's see if I can extrapolate and get on board.

First I think, we have to turn OFF the assumption that "the dead have risen" to become zombies... the creatures we see aren't dead people turned, they are LIVE people who got infected and turned... that takes care of the "whatever killed them" element.  They were never dead in the first place.

So an infected person , aka "zombie", gains his hunger for flesh, gets tougher fingernails, yada yada, then goes to eat a live human.  That live human gets eaten and dies, and we never see that person again (as they do not "turn" and become living again).  Those victims NEVER become "zombies".

BUT, if a zombie passes their infection to another, that victim DOES show the wounds from their initial attack that infected them, and does turn into a zombie, and is therefor still susceptible to damages, like piercing, blunt or slashing, because well, they're still alive.

Yeh I can get on board with this.

I’m just glad that this thread is so active again. Plus we purged so much we can count this as only the 100th time we’ve had the “Are they zombies?” discussion.

(They are and ya’ll are totally disregarding the ALIEN factor)

Yes...the a is for alien dna... Zambies
Is it the spiffy new forums?

Apply cold water to burned Area.

Damn... :D
There is plenty more where that came from concerning them.

Skipping Discussion, disregarding other peoples input and opinions as "blah, blah blah" while still feeling the need to give your own 2 cents.

Awesome Forum Etiquette, good Sir.
That is how I roll, at least when this place gets too busy or I do and don't have time to read everything.

To support the belief (or misbelief) that they died, science could say that when approaching death (infected person on their death bed) that their heart rate and breathing become so slowed (zombies have super slow pulses) that they are considered dead. Perhaps they do die briefly, but once their will to live and fight vanish, that is when the virus really takes over and duplicates itself at an incredible rate, or the z genes suddenly flip on, and at that point they wake up wanting to eat because most sick people haven't eaten for a while. Eating flesh is what makes them feral has always been my lore but we never had the programming staff to warrant coding it in to see it happen in real time. I always wanted in MP to see zombies become feral if they feed on your buddy.

In my opinion they are alive, but have slow heart rates and don't need oxygen like a normal person because of the slowed heart rate and breathing. Strong and efficient, they barely feel pain or they don't care, the self preservation part is gone.
