I actually forgot about this one, my first iron mine right outside Diersvill, because I depleted all teh iron already, but still has tons of lead.
Is a good example of how I leave the OG node though. But I didn't surround this one in bars like I did the coal, and others. That also makes a great spot to set your junk turret for watching the entrance...

And I made a cozy little spot within some lead here too, do some smelting whilst I mine, etc

Crazy place to just forget about, ended up neat, but again I got what I needed already.

Nice. The more you put into stuff the more you can get out of it. Like you don't have to do that, but its fun to role play that hey my character is going to be spending a lot of time down here, I should make it safe and semi cozy while I'm here. I had a mine one time with an "oh ♥♥♥♥ room" in case zeds got down there, and it turned into a vault with a hot tub spa, mini fridge, sofa, lamp and looked nice :) When people came down there I was like check out my break room and they were like "Dude this is nicer than my base" lol..

I only really use the one small corner, the only thing in the middle is I converted the burnt out bathroom into my power management room, complete with bullet proof glass protection. Is a perfect location to run power out everywhere, plus I don't need to be near/at it often.

Everything else is packed into two small rooms in one corner of the lot. I really love the wall safes for extra storage, they are a great size for the way I like to organize things. I can sit in one spot, I always always buy the red stools when traders have them for this purpose. I can just spin around and reach everything, it's great.

And the one wall is covered in those trestle/ladder thingies, which are AMAZING, screw ladders, use those. You can move around sideways, they make you spiderman, try it!. Next time you see the bakery go upstairs, get across the beams to the wall covered in them, jump on and just move around in all directions, it was an amazing discovery for me. Anyway, I can easily/quickly scale up and out one of two ways from inside. Up to the left puts me on catwalk over the door, up to the right takes me to the roof. So useful.

And then right underneath is room #2. Ammo production/organization on one wall, concrete production on the other. Then I can look through the floor and see my mine entrances and whether my shrooms are ready for pickin or not. Overall this POI flip is working out great, minimally changed it, still built all the rooms I actually use myself as additions.

Are those safes your storage chests? Can they be crafted in vanilla? Looks like a good space saver idea.

Well they never were before, credit goes to TFP for the changes that made them possible, and so awesome. The fun part is letting them take shape naturally depending on the location and deposit(s), then embelishing from there. Probably my fav part is how you can just make the catwalk blocks so easily now.
Waiting for sun to come up, is soon, so I can get better pics of the last 2 mines I have...
Yeah I dig out the gravel for much needed concrete mix and enjoy flattening out each layer as I go. I need to put supports in because the ore blobs are huge and you can have a massive avalanche if you don't support it.

Oh that's not my base, none of them are, just the one shot of the doors is underneath my base. I'm still workin on my actual base, and is one of my favorites ever. All I do are POI adaptations, then build my BM towers from scratch. I may post a few pics, people familiar with the new Navezgane will notice the building, what's left of it anyway...
My bad I confused you for Mech lens I watched his horde night and my mine entrance looks like his base entrance. I think its great to see people post pics of their hard work and creations. Its like minecraft with purpose.

I started playing a serious game of A18 finally. Dead is dead. Amazing Alpha!!! Orgasmic even!!!, just got past first BM.
Regular sledge swings still have no follow thru, no back into it... half swings that abruptly stop. Feels weird still but the power attack is perfect!!!

The schematic and magazine looting makes me want to play one handed and crank one out!!

Make this $hit stable I wanna wack to the A19 thread!! — Or whatever is next.
boy, you whack to just about anything.

I love these types of builds, especially for longer play through. That is hilarious about the stray gun fire....almost Madmole level hilariousness....but not quite lol...
For me, I envision upgrading an existing POI as my main home ala "I am legend"/ "Omega man" with a nearby horde base like yours (but not too near lol)
I could've just made the front pointed a different direction, as I have done before, and why this is somehow a first for me. It was after the 4th bloodmoon before I even realized what was happening. I went up into my sweet spot, aimed down sights, and sure enough I have been obliterating my own base all night long, and my turrets even helped! Quite the face palm moment.

But yeah I always convert a POI for a home base, making one from total scratch in a world full of empty buildings is way too big a stretch of believability for me. No one would actually do that in a post-apocalypse. Makes sense for the Blood Moon towers though, so this way I get to do both, but dedicate most of my resources/priority to the BM tower. I do however tend to get elaborate in my POI flips sometimes, especially in longer games, mainly with perimeter walls/fences and such. Now I enjoy the mining builds, a lot, so that's new. Plenty to build as it is, I have no desire to start home/base from zero. It feels way too gamey, plus most builds remind me of generic minecraft block houses far more than anything I would ever actually see in a post apocalypse. Where-as POI adaptations fit right in, they make sense and add believable depth to the world instead of remind me I am playing a game.

I call this one "The Great Ovarian Mine", because the building I made around the 2 nodes of nitrate reminded me of ovaries, and this place just keeps on delivering, so it works, lol. It's in the far East where the terrain and rocks start doing weird things.
I spend a lot of nights here, especially prepping for BM.

That log out front is for my junk turret.

OK, one more, the shale mine... headin there now...
Reminds me of a Skyrim mine a bit, or like one of those grottos, all you need is a little water feature :)

@MM
I have a ~ rare bug in my current vanilla a18e(b152) game, (not new, happened in previous alphas as well)

when u dig a lot in the same area (ex. mine to bedrock under base) sometimes the vertices stops updating on each hit.

as a result 2 things can happen:

- destroyed blocks still render as if intact for awhile

- damaged blocks get smaller while the surrounding blocks don't update, leaving gaps in the terrain.

u can see into the void and even fall into oblivion.

has this been seen/explored by u or any of TFP testers?

it is a really bad bug to try to play around , and its not easy to reproduce, so i am not posting in the bug section yet. if i can repro on a new game somehow ill post a report with pics.

it is persistent throw closing the game and loading the save again, so I might just have to abandon this "corrupted" mine for now because of it.
Never heard of such a thing, make sure to post in the bug forum where the testers will see it, and a repro if possible.

Yes! The immersion factor is so much higher when living out of an existing POI versus a 5x5 box....

Not many games will get you to drop 1300$ on a new pc just to play em../..

I have no problems playing anything on this comp--Never had issues with 7 days either.

I think Steam and 7 days has some kind of .dll issue atm...

damn windows was updating in the backround last week- hd was going 100% and I couldn't figure out what was going on -no indication windows was updating not even in the security/update section. so I turned comp off.....spent some time digging in fixing and tweaking.

so now Im running on a sleek- no app laden computer runs great and I even found a little nugget from Micro soft... telemetry protocol that runs in the backround constantly sending them your info.. I shut that down too--

anyway- my new system should be here by end week just in time for vacation... tfp should get some kick backs on these sales.

Awesome, sounds like you ended up with a fun room. I once made a "Blood Moon Lounge" under a bank POI that was all super fancy and decked out. It was in A16 so we could all just chill all night while the Zombos totally obliterated the bank above us(I passionately hate banks). It was neat though, the bedrock texture lit up looked like a dance floor, had a stocked bar, leather couches sunk into rock outcrops, and so on, it was a fun spot.

Well I did not expect the iron to run out so fast. Building it up was not all that time consuming or difficult though, again the new block-shape menu works wonders for building, the catwalks are no exception. Ends up looking like an elaborate planned out thing, but rly it's not, I jsut let it happen as I mine away and it ends up looking sweet in the end.

And yeah I try to role play enough to keep the world interesting and believable, hence why I always convert POIs for bases, even though I love to design/build from scratch.

Part of the problem is that yeah it definitely effects that group a lot, and the current state means that by day 7 we've found or bought multiple purple items already. So granted I know that's being changed so that its not as easy to get them, so once those changes are in place my opinion might change.
Right now I could easily put points in trader and get a 1/2 dozen purple items or more by day 7. Last night at level 40 I found 8 purple items in an hour and was just tossing and scrapping everything that wasn't at least blue. Getting bored atm and about to restart because i'm fully decked out in all purples, with multiple options, multiple guns, tons of ammo, and no real point to go out and loot because i'm never gonna need a better weapon or armor as mine last forever.

I definitely agree that its a fine line though between making looting useful end game and not making the early way a grind. It's just so easy to get to the point where i'm scrapping purple weapons because i already got 5 in my stash and it just feels wrong.
7 items by day 7? That feels a little far fetched. Thats 72000 dukes I don't think so. Even with 3 ranks you only get 15% off now, so thats still a lot of money to raise. Moot point because purples will be gone from traders soon, and the rest is balance. Why would you scrap a purple when you can sell it for way more than the parts are worth?

Sorry but it feels like you are exaggerating by a large margin or leaving out some details, like loot abundancy 200%, 5 hour day length, cheesing pois you know and going straight to the loot chests, etc. It just doesn't sound like the alpha I have 500 hours in and you have 20 or 40? I played 100 hours and had maybe one purple steel armor, the rest was odd colors and some iron yet. I looted a TON and even got desperate to cheese POI loot rooms a few times because RNG denied me a minigun forever.

Is it just me or is the latest experimental build lacking in the loot department? I started a new game on one of the pregens...TWICE and it seems like nearly every loot container is empty.
EDIT: Nevermind, apparently my loot percentage was at 25%. Ouch. I've been suffering this entire time.
Reset defaults with every update to be safe. Then set things up how you like.

A big hats off to you Mechanical! Very impressive. I don’t understand how you have time to beautify your mines though. I’m so stressed trying to find the time to mine, get brass, get food & scavenge that everything is barren. I may be trying to convince my party members to agree to switch to 90 minute days. There just doesn’t seem to be enough time.
Three of us did Day 21 BM last night and it was 50% radiated, 25% cops. We lived but with that mixture of zombies, I’m really concerned about Day 28. Two of the three of us haven’t died yet so I’m sure our combined gamestage is pretty high though I honestly didn’t check...not enough time. We went thru all our ammo so I was punching the last of the horde at 4am. Loads of fun but lots to do the next 7 days.
I like the short 60 minute days, but I might try a blood moon every 14 days or something to get more time. Maybe put it back to 7 later game, or random after I get my base done.

Honestly, I'm not sure anyone really thinks item degradation would be fun. I think people are trying to find ways to make crafting relevant again. Because right now crafting has been drastically marginalized. I'm trying to keep an open mind on the subject, since so far you guys have nailed it with A18, I mean really, fantastic update so far... but I do hope crafting gets a little love.
- - - Updated - - -

Thats pretty much it. I've seen parts at the trader (though not steel tool parts yet)
Purples are ledendaries, so we don't want people crafting legendaries. We let the craft up to blue and enabled random stats on t2 and 3 crafting, so that is a LOT of love since 18's launch.

Are those safes your storage chests? Can they be crafted in vanilla? Looks like a good space saver idea.
Yes, and you can craft them quite easily/early on. Not all of my storage is, but many are, the small wall safes, especially when space is tight like this room. The only safe that was there was the one on the desk, where i keep my dukes and stuff to sell to trader. I also made all of the cabinets(furniture helper) and use those. I only have 2 actual storage in that room, then like a dozen other smaller ones like safes and cabinets. I also love the larger gun safes, but have no room for them in this build, plus they cost a ton more material, steel too not iron, so they're later game. I've had armory rooms with one large safe per caliber/gun, stuff like that, which is always a fun build.

Best bonus to using safes though: durability, just in case.
