Just like little communication, lots of communication does have pluses and minuses. However I really prefer the open and personal communication style. Try to remember it's not TFP putting official statements, but instead just a developer putting his thoughts out here.
And I didn't really read MM's post as calling the whole forum squeaky wheels, but more like a few people here as squeaky wheels. And I don't think he tried to insult anyone.
I feel like we're all just having a beer sitting around bs'ing about stuff, then someone always has to ruin it. Whatever.. its just a matter of time before all devs just stop interacting with the community and do press releases like everyone else.

Quick questions:

How do you choose the quality of the gun you craft? Is there a separate recipe for each quality level?

Will gun parts be used in any recipes other than the specific gun? (Like for gun mods or a high-quality blunderbuss)

Its automated and scaled based on the perk rank you have.

There are some generic parts like tools that are shared for all tool crafting but no not in any other recipes yet.

If a programmer is capable of solving your water problem, I am pretty sure he is not unlucky.. he is just super intelligent.
That depends how long it took him and how many hairs were pulled out getting there. Some guys love a challenge, others like to stay in the comfort zone.

Madmole, during the last horde an interesting thought occurred to me.

Could you add to the screen an optional counter that will show the number of zombies that appeared on the night of the horde and the number of zombies killed by the player during the night of the horde.

Such a counter could appear one hour before the horde and disappear one hour after the end of the horde.

The same could be done when completing quests, for example, by clearing buildings from zombies.

This could be interesting as a single hardcore players, and in the co-op, when players can brag about their success with each other. It can also launch a wave of screenshots on the Internet.

What do you think about it? )

Hey, pretty keen on A18. which thread is dev's only talk? I thought there was one without everyone else's blah blah? I thought there was one awhile back, where you could just read whats going on/upcoming, without all these off topic meh.

Cheers

Press F1 and you'll see a log of how many zombies spawn, and each zombie kill you make. You could also note the difference in zombie kill count on the character screen (B) before and after horde night.

P.S. Why do you end your posts with a close parenthesis?

Madmole started posting every day, so frequently that Roland gave up manually copying dev posts over to a separate thread. It means more dev interaction, so few users have complained. :D

Hadn't thought about the hold type, but I agree on both counts. It hits very far away.

I wanted this for some time; we've had a fair number of horde nights on our server and thought it'd be fun for competition sake to have something auto-track each kill made over the course of horde night and display the scores at the end. Unsure of how approachable of a mod that would be (definitely above the xml style grade of modding), but having a built-in feature would be even better. I mean, you could just jot them down (kills before and after on the player screen) in a note pad and do the math, but MEH .. takes away from the spontaneity.

There are already various mods that display zombie kill count on the UI. Just use one of those and compare your totals before and after horde night.

We use to just open the group menu and look at our zombie kills and then open it after horde night and compare them

Faatal:

****I have an idea spawned from the front page.

For the aggressive animals, if crouch is added to

their eai task they could take a stalking posture

which also affects their game stealth.

****Since they have a chance to run away, can a distanced

arc path be added for them, to try to get behind you.

While firing at them if slightly hurt and they dont

run away can a path be added to avoid scope before attack.

Sort of like the avoid mouse focus on some websites for

sprites.

One feature I personally think would be nice would be where the boss zombies at the end of a tier 5 quest had a chance to drop a special legendary with a certain effect. Like a special shotgun with a +5% damage to let's just say cop zombies only

Open the scoreboard to see how many zombies you have killed, I don't want to flood the screen with useless information.

I'm not always sure what the constant bitching at the devs is about. I had a blast (and still am) with a17, and delightful to recently learn that 18 is already around the corner.
I like where the devs are going with it too. I'm no "hardcore" gamer by far, and I like that much of the vanilla game has the basics of what I'm looking for when I play; just something I can play casually with friends without it being frustratingly difficult, unless I want it to be, haha.

Given the topic I've seen lately though, I also agree with devs that the level by doing style of the older version wasn't much fun. I remember spending many nights every early game just cranking out bows like I'm arming a tribal army or something. At least since 17 it's been a lot easier for us to just break off and specialize earlier on; and the video for a18 makes it look like that'll be even easier to do! I'm usually the crafter and base-builder for the group, so it'll be nice to take a little of that pressure to craft off so I can focus on bases and defenses.

Just my two cents. Or I guess five cents, since Canadian's don't use pennies anymore, haha. : )
Thanks, yes there were too many difficult learn by doing "chore" activities we didn't want to force on people and difficulty balancing them. XP is a tried and true way to level going way back to D&D, the first RPG I played.

Great work on the A18 STUFF!! CANNOT WAIT <3 some questions

• Ever plan to change/add where we can have more than 1 person accessing a storage container fire etc? somewhat annoying to wait for idiots to leave it lol

• Upgraded campfire? Grill using charcoal or gas?

•If no to above, Mods for such? I rememebr reading something about forge mods, any news on that? (I.E Mods for crafting stations)

like add more smelting spots, faster cooking etc

Thanks keep up the amazing work! can't wait for release!

Sharing containers would require a more authoritive networking solution so probably not.

Not 100% sure about the campfire. Probably get rid of the grill and do some heat exchange for faster cooking or something.
