PC A17 ... Where are you

The video Joel just put up says target date estimated for experimental A17 would be July. I didn't watch the whole thing so there could be more information. I haven't played this game since before the shops were put in. I check a couple of times a year to see if it's done yet..

Sometime in July, then probably 4 weeks of experimental.

Loyal gamers still patiently awaiting. :)

My entire life got turned upside down since the last release.

HEH

So I guess be thankful we have the Internet, and we have games like 7days, and you are NOT locked up in a box...I guess.

I wonder which major features will come with A17. I expect 5-10 major features implemented for a whole year of development time. That is, more than animations, vehicle physics and new POIs.

Heard something about a few new apparel changes, mainly this new starter tee:thODU05HP0.jpg

But those voices in my head are rather inaccurate when it comes to this stuff...

Yes, because they are redoing stuff for the second (or more) time.. like weapons, buff system, progression system..
It is excellent when they add stuff to a system, but it is sad when they say that they are starting over with something.. It makes you think about the waste of time...
Have to agree, and I wonder why you'd need to redo stuff, it has to be a rare occurrence.

Except they really aren't.
Buff system has never been redone its being upgraded with more options and more ways to control buffs

Progression system isn't being redone either, its being expanded upon whats already there. Wellness is being removed and thats about it

Weapons aren't being redone either, they are adding alot more with mods, and just removing parts.

None of that is remotely close to "starting over". it's also an alpha, part of that means you have unfinished systems in place that are continuously tweaked as you develop. Sadly I've never met a programmer with a crystal ball who can magically predict the future and has never had to go back and tweak things in his code.
If this is valid, then it all makes sense. Do you have a source that I can look into? Thanks.

I don't know if the people reading this have ever developed anything - especially a game, but often times the best way to get to a perfect system is usually to make a less-than-perfect system, learn some lessons, and then start over from the ground up. Oftentimes your first draft system simply isn't built properly to be successfully refined into a better system without starting over.
They also switched engines to Unity 2017 so it was one of their best opportunities to actually go ahead and reconstruct systems that weren't exactly working.
This is true. I'm a robotics developer, I know this for a fact.

From Roland's thread I sort of got that the game is in a really unplayable buggy state right now and so they are right to not show a ton of footage, even if they are getting a lot of work done. Sometimes you work for weeks or even months with nothing to actually "show," and that's totally normal in development. Usually I like to be able to see real progress each day I work on something but sometimes that's just not possible, especially as TFP is experiencing growing pains trying to work out how to make use of a larger team - something they are not used to.
Agile Development. Scrum. Sprints with customer journeys evolving into a backlog. Planning Poker.

Aaaah....one of the orchestrators of the true future apocalypse. I hope this game goes gold before you people at Skynet get us all enslaved...

Hey, that's not so bad. The company I work for already has AI that learns from humans to make the robots safer and more efficient. If anyone's starting Skynet, we are.

They even have the AI taking help desk calls and resetting passwords.

The future is now. Right now.

I figure by the time the game goes Gold, we won't be able to tell if we're playing with humans, or some rogue AI.

When Skynets' automated proctologist goes rogue, well, that's when you'll know we're doomed.

And we should hope the AI for the proctologist doesn't get mixed with the chimney sweep.
