PC 16K Maps

Just wanted to let people know the 16k maps work but took me 36 minutes to generate it, and 3 minutes to load. Now to get playing.

Just wanted to clarify that you have to select advanced map generation in order to see the 16k map option. From the basic screen only 4k and 8k are available.

Can't upload a pic from computer but only about 20% is forest, rest is snow, wasteland and desert. Interesting to say the least.

Whenever I try to generate a 16k map it takes forever, then ends up crashing the game :(
First time I tried the 16k map today I stepped away from computer for 5 minutes and when I came back my monitor was black, but computer still running. Had to hard reboot system to get it back. 2nd time I did it it took 36 minutes, seemed like it took forever on the "creating country roads" part. I did it by generating the world first under the advanced generation button and using the btngenerateworld button to get the preview.

Won't let me upload a pic of the world I created. It's 2.8 MB in size but keeps failing the upload. Wonder if it is too big a pic.

I'd be curious to see how long it takes to render a 16k map with their hardware specs. If anyone else has done it, let us know. I may go try to do one in a bit.

i did it in one of the earlier experimentals - i think it was B208.

It took 72 Minutes on my machine, Loading a game that was using the map took about 10 minutes....

My Spec:

32 GB Ram,

Ryzen 1700 (at that time not overclocked, so running at 3.3Ghz)

Zotac Geforce 1080 (non-ti, with nice factory oc, but not very much)

And it had problems with memory consumption.

Loading game, exiting to menu, loading game again, exiting to menu -> Memory consumption of 7d2d was about 29 GB.

Similar to Shiana, I haven't tried it since probably b208.

It took me about 40-45 minutes.

i7-3930k overclocked at 4.2GHz

16GB RAM @900Mhz (Old DDR3 stuff)

GTX1060 6GB

OS on SSD, game on unltra-fast HDD's in RAID 0

Plan on firing one up later today since I can't make RWG maps on the Linux dedi.

I have an i-7 6700K and 1080ti and 32gb with the game running on an M2 SSD. i may hold off on tryin.
The 1080 won't have anything to do with generating the map, but your 6700k is only a smidge slower than mine.

I wonder if that's a bad sign or a good one.
Once it's explored, they will likely take up more room. The map data exists, but the region files still aren't created until you visit them.

Just made another and it took just under 41 minutes. Tried to be smart this time and took a screenshot of it instead of a phone pic, but pic is still too large to upload.

My chip is a 7-year-old i7-2600k 3.4 Ghz. Running 16GB Ram.

The longest part seems to be generating the county roads. I made 2 yesterday, will gen a couple more today and actually time it.

6800K 64gb ram, 1080.

Or you could use a modlet and have 4096, 6144, 8192, 10240, 12288, 14366, 16384 as options on both menus (New Game and Advanced/Previewer).

Anyway, been doing testing on my own system:

Gigabyte X58A-UD3R v2 BIOS version: FH

Intel Xeon W3680 3.325 GHz (25x133) @ 4.20 GHz (25x168) [6 Cores/12 Logical], QPI x44, Uncore x21

24GB G.Skill DDR3 Triple Channel {F3-14900CL8-4GBXM * 6} @ 1680 MHz (CL 8, tRCD 8, tRP 8, tRAS 20, Command Rate 1T)

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB DDR5 GV-N1070G1

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit -- InstallDate 2012 (Last Re-install)

Below were all done with the same seed and all same configs/installed mods. Only one-off testing so far to get baselines. Memory is just me eyeballing TaskManager.

Map Size, Amount of memory used to Generate and Full Preview (zoom all the way out to see radiated edges), and the time the logs list for Generation

Because I have no life.

What's interesting is it seems linear until 10k, so I'm assuming it's building in memory at 8k on his 24gb ram but needs the swap file at 10k on up.
