PC V2.0 Storms Brewing Dev Diary

No plans. .5m pathing would use a lot more memory and be a lot slower. Specific obstacle checks may be added as needed especially once we see how bandits are performing.

I don't know anything about how pathing works, just casually wondering about your comment. Are you saying that it is a situation where integer math is being used as opposed to floating point?

If that were the case, would it efficiently work to translate between the two by calculating positions at 10x resolution so that 0.5 is considered 5 and 1.0 as 10 for calculations, then scaling back to .1x for map placement?

I've always thought the vending machines were kind of dumb anyway. Do I use them....sure.

How are they running out in the wild if there is no power? Who is restocking them? The trader compounds make sense as they have power going but why would they want vending machines as they could just sell the stuff themselves?

Not sure what the solution would be. Get rid of vending machines and just make candy lootable and purchasable from the trader?

Or add some of the benefits from the candy and put that into the higher tiered craftable foods, kinda like the cheesecake buff that helps with bartering.

Want easier lock picking...eat a veggie stew. Want better bartering, eat a blueberry pie.

I don't know, this sounds stupid too, just spit balling ideas I guess.
I think just settings will be enough. Then there definitely won't be such a monstrous number of working vending machines.

Just listened to the Town Hall, for the most part, really happy with what I hear.
I'm happy with the rapid response to player feedback and reactions to the update.
Gonna be real, I felt like a chunk of the initial release was really rushed, particularly the storms/badges/smoothies so to see you'll be making corrections to that is very exciting.
I get it that there's a lot of work behind the scenes to prepare the systems going into 3.0 (Event system, wooo!!!) ... more quest types sounds exciting too! .. (Please tell us exploding a building calls in a mini horde or two!)

Fantasty vibe I can take it or leave it, leaning towards leave it. If you do move away from it, maybe the spider zombie's design can get another look?
I'm stoked with the upcoming changes to storms, I think I'd like to see clothing 'mods' that you can put into the armor as mentioned- as long as this is part of a push to make the survival elements more forefront. I think it's appropriate that the player needs to dress accordingly for hot/cold weather survival. (I also think this game needs some more things to slow down progression.. or and a few more steps.)- Sounded like that's being kept in mind. I heard mentioned having a torch/being near fire will warm you up and being in water will cool you down again- great.

On that note, I want to bring up balance. I hope we see a little more going on with food to make us think, "In this situation I want A, but if I do the other thing I should eat B" rather than "This one has the biggest number".
I think the trader/questing can start to trivialize a lot of the struggle of progression. (Might be time for me to turn loot down to 50%?) I think a quick(?), straight forward improvement on this would be to just make everything like 20% more expensive.

Vending machines appears to be the popular thing to talk about today, so I'll weigh in. - Everything is cheap. Who's putting learning 'lixers in there?
They're Op, but I kinda like OP stuff- I agree with whoever said they(The working ones) need to be more rare, - like if you see them and it's not at a trader, you might mark it on your map rare.

Pimp dream/nightmare: zombie'gator.
Prices should be higher

:( :/ svp
Yes, they can spawn behind you in a POI if the POI is set up that way.

I'm hoping they make it a Native American creature of lore like a Skinwalker or something. Wendigo would be cool but that is not Apache.
They did show the new model in the game. It's essentially just a zombie American Indian. I doubt they will change it (at least not much) from what they showed in the video. No reason to keep changing the model. The new one looks good, though I was fine with the old one as well.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. There is a lot more work behind pathing than converting between int and float. You can be sure that faatal knows what he's talking about and that it isn't an easy or simple solution.

Indeed it is in many games, it is just much more generic and takes a bit of imagination. I kill zeds with club, get xp, make level, put point in clubs so it is now better. The problem comes when you put that point in say animal tracking and then it was not LBD. I prefer the freedom and I certainly don't want to craft hundreds of axes. That was tedious.
But perhaps it could be done via challenges. I would like a skill point system were ecery level we get a point too invest into magazines

Glad to see you're moving away from the new fantasy style spitter/frost monsters. They just didn't seem to fit the game vibe. Awesome design on those - no denying that. But they just seemed to stretch things a bit too far. But I've got to say - your proposed substitution is a tad uncomfortable.... Beautiful artwork on the model notwithstanding, do you really think it's wise go the route of using a blatantly stereotyped Native American character as a "bad guy" that must be killed?
We are NOT saying every Native American is a bad guy as we should end up with them also as neutral or friendly NPCs. Ideally every race should be represented as both good, bad or neutral characters where appropriate which is the exact opposite of racism.

Glad for the upcoming changes, I knew we will have good news and The Pims delivered them. Hat off again.

Just wondering, when will we start to have the new changes, 2.x or 3.x and further ?
2.1 already had a few changes. 2.2 has more. 2.3 more...

It is not about integer math. It is about memory and number of calculations. 10x resolution would be 100x times the memory and CPU use if we are talking 2d space and 1000x for 3d, although the height would not be nearly as bad, so maybe 200x.

My guess is that it reminded people of a Mummy from Egyptian lore?
Yeah, it is not bad, it just leans a bit too much toward mummy.

The reason why TFP did not address any matters concerning PvP during last night's town hall is unclear to me.
If they were to examine the server list,
they would find that the top three most populated servers globally are PvP and its not secret like ive said over and over millions of players have playd pvp in this game over the years.
that should tell them all they need to know

I think the frostclaw should stay but as a very rare boss.. zombe sqach

Any entity could spawn behind you depending on the situation. A biome spawn. A wandering horde. Blood moon spawns. A sleeper volume if you walked in backwards. A POI scripted zombie spawn. They do make sounds like groaning and footsteps.

Sorry, but in the future can you post a version of what you are saying in English, with say a translator, as I do not want to spend my time translating other languages to English.

Oh, boy. Asking a francophone to post English? This is where I head to the fallout shelter because things about to get ugly violent lol.

It may actually work in another one of our games, so you may see it again years from now. ;)

Oh, people can post in whatever language they want, just don't @faatal me and expect me to read it.

So it will be replaced by the one shown in the live show?
That is the plan, it just may not look exactly like that as that was maybe half way done.

It should be clear to you. Go add up all the posts of all the things people are talking about and then you will see what percent is PVP related.

Fair enough, I just know that there some francophones who really kinda hate English. Personally I find that sort of thing amusing as long as I get to watch from a distance.

As for the desert spitter, I mean, I thought it was kind cool looking. But I understand why it rubs people the wrong way. Same with the frostclaw. Personally, I prefer viral/mutation/science-y type zombies. Fantasy zombies & monsters are okay, but mixing the two flavors? Eh, not so great in my opinion.

sorry i will do some efforts,
The question is, the problem when we are low life is that zombies spawn behind us, we have no way, even minimal, to detect it for the most attentive among us, maybe improve a little the footsteps, the 3D spatialization of the sound and/or put a very light soundtrack of breathing and the fact that it drags its steps? thanks and sorry again, have a good weekend and big kisses to all the tfp team

The Frost Claw looks a bit too much like a Yeti, it's true, a small graphical overhaul with a more lively mechanic would be welcome from many, including me I think (why not the same thing for the Bee Spitters)
