He didn't have to comply. Where do you get he legally had to comply? He tried to actually come to a meeting point where they could both come out on top. Tfp admitted they ■■■■ed up. It is not really your, or my, and certainly not JaWoodle's, privilege to judge whether his statement should be "good enough for TFP". That prerogative lies solely with TFP. And apparently a simple statement wasn't sufficient for them: They wanted their proprietary information unpublished entirely. Which is their right. After all, and despite having erroneously sent it to JaWoodle, they own that IP and decide for themselves when it should be publicly disclosed or not.
Thinking Jawoodler is more in the wrong does not have to equate to "defending TFP".

The utter bs of people defending TFP, is astonishing. They keep ■■■■ing the game up, then back tracking. I love this game. But they keep making horrible choices. If it weren't for the YouTubers, this game would definitely not be as popular. That's 100% guaranteed. It's why they have streamer weekends. The streamers have made this game way more popular.

Wtf. I am definitely not one of those. Have watched a handful of his videos. The people sucking the ■■■■ out of TFP are ridiculous. TFP have made a ton of mistakes. From losing the console rights, to abandoning that community for years, to making a game that sucked and they scrapped in less than a month... Come on. They even blame the community continuously.

You don't know the contracts, you have zero idea what any of it entails. Woodle has proven to be uncooperative even though he was supposed to be working together with TFP. He made the choice to harm his relationship with them so he can farm an artificial drama that he created himself. You don't need contracts to legally stop someone from leaking private assets after accidentaly giving that person access.

Again, if Mick Jagger sent you (by mistake) unreleased RS songs, you would not be allowed to distribute these to anyone else. You wouldn't be in trouble for having received them (after all that wasn't your fault), you wouldn't even get in trouble for listening to them, but you would likely get in trouble if you passed them on to others. Let's say you still decided to put them on the Internet because that's simply how badass you are, then you would quickly be contacted by their legal counsel who would politely, or not so politely, ask you to stop (cease and desist letter) and failure to do so could quickly lead to litigation and even police involvement.
"But that's music songs!" Doesn't matter. Game builds including proprietary code and game structures are also intellectual property and TFP could likely prove it was their IP.

I’d just like to say that when I was in charge of the streamer weekend, Woodle seemed pretty capable of communicating with me instantly despite his relative world position to me.
Was that the case this year? How quickly could you have given him an actual answer? How quickly would the current org? Did Woodle know the setup for this year? Did he have other issues this year?

Music copyright is basically its own thing. To get your example to apply here, JaWoodle would have to be dealing forward the "unauthorized" SW (he isn't). He didn't leak the game, he posted footage of the game he was TOLD to post on ..
And in your example, you were not told to sample the music by the rightful owner and sender, to make your own review of it and publish that, to then be met with a NOT THOSE PARTS! NOOO! afterwards.
Funny, as this has been my opinion the entire time; I don't know much. I saw what JaWoodle posted, his request for negotiation. I don't know if that went any further. He didn't make any demands at that point, and he seemed to be saying it was ignored from there on out. If that's true, TFP didn't even try to negotiate, just "our way or the DMCA". But again, I don't know if that's the whole picture.

A content creator as involved as JaWoodle (who was a guest speaker in the devstream in which TFP stated bandits and chicken coops will NOT be in 3.0 for crying out loud) was fully aware of he fact he was publishing none intended content. I would expect (if the intentions were truly faithfull as JaWoodle so gracefully repeats in his video) that he would at least contact TFP and ask why the most obvious features NOT intended to be in 3.0 were available to him. He choose to publish anyway. I have an opinion about that yes. And its not good.
I'm chiming in for JaWoodle after having read the statements for both sides.
TFP screwed up:
- First, by using sloppy engagement terms that didn't give them control over third-party coverage; and
- Second, by failing to manage the distribution of their own builds.
JaWoodle runs a business that's protected by Australian law. He was entirely within his professional and legal rights to publish what he did, when he did. His responses to TFP were respectful and always sought a mutually agreeable solution.
TFP showed very little willingness to accommodate or address JaWoodle's valid concerns about his income, and made no effort to reach a genuine solution.
To TFP specifically:
You have burnt up an incredible amount of your fan's goodwill and your own credibility. All over a matter that can't be worth more than a few thousand Australian dollars.
The one bit of good news is: it doesn't have to be this way.
Settle with JaWoodle. Write some decent terms for the settlement so that both you and JaWoodle can come out the other side and say its all resolved to everyone's satisfaction. In my opinion, that would regain you a lot of the goodwill you've lost and the settlement would be a pittance compared to your overheads.
I've been playing 7DTD since 2016, have over 1300 hours logged, and I've convinced multiple people to also buy your game. I won't be doing that anymore if you keep bringing this Nintendo/EA attitude to the table.

Well, you responded that way to me. And I did never anywhere in this discussion say that I knew for sure he was in his right. I also did not "unrestricted" support him. All I did say a few times that it is not reasonable to expect him to take all the damage for a mistake made by TFP. The things he claimed and showed did not indicate the slightest attempt of TFP to meet in the middle. The big issue is they don't show anything at all here, inspite of this situation is already on page 5 in this thread with a total of nearly 30 pages spread over several threads.
Maybe their lawyer advise them to stay silent but gaming is a very public busines so it would be much smarter that lawyer advice them how to respond. Silence is maybe good for court but does damage the public opinion. In the end it is that same public that decides to buy future products from TFP and not that lawyer.
