The missed post from JaWoodle

Leaving aside morality and blame games, I do not at all understand what TFP hopes to gain from going after Jawoodle so hard.

Even when they're in the right, those sort of heavy tactics only ever costs a company sales and reputation; it never improves those things. It's even dumber when coops came out literally just a few days afterwards (yes, the bandits were probably more important, but it still contributes to making TFP look bad).

Just seems like comically bad comms and legal strategy to me. Taking the "biting the hand that feeds him" analogy a step further, if someone's out feeding the ducks or the squirrels or whatever and they bite him, anyone watching would naturally expect them to stop feeding said critter. But if he flips out and starts chasing that animal around with a stick, the same observer's going to not only think that guy's ■■■■ing crazy, but even start to figure the animal was right to bite them!

Still there was no clear indication that TFP/BHVR was continuing to seek legal action...despite what the title stated.

And two wrongs don't make a right.
And also you can't use philanthropy against claims of a god complex and narcissism when it's known that narcissists with god complexes like to show how philanthropic they are.

just to give you the info...not to give you grief : Jawoodle's video is called "they THREATENED to sue me"...not "they are suing me" you and some other people seem to have misread that.

to be fair TFP showed these people that it is only the bottom line that seems to motivate them into actually listening.

He (or she) should be fired.

In the same way, JaWoodle after refusing to edit out of his videos the undisclosed content, must pay in whatever way TFP can enforce their interests, be it ending the collaboration with him or legally enforcing the agreement.

I want to add my voice to the others here asking The Fun Pimps to take it easy on JaWoodle. Josh is a prominent member of the community, his work on base building is where many of us get our start.

Pursuing legal action against him is already impacting the way I see the TFP. I know he inadvertently leaked some stuff they weren't ready to leak, but it's not gonna hurt them. I saw that video and it got me excited, but TFP reaction to the leak is kinda ruining that excitement. They're coming off as bullies in this, picking on a small content creator who has spent years fostering love for their game.
 
As best as I can tell, Jawoodle looked at the software he was given, found something interesting and then made a video about that discovery. Which is exactly what I'd expect a content creator to do.

TFPs response to a content creator who has given them years of free advertisement has just been stupid.

Seriously, all of this drama is because someone showed a couple minutes of a bandit and a chicken. FFS quit being so petty.

I get what you're saying, but look at it from the dev's side. They put all this work into bandits, and are still working on them and some YTer is showing an incomplete version of them that doesn't look the best. If they wanted to show off where they were, they'd have done that.

Honestly, seeing this take over and over is getting old. Yes, Woodle has given them a good bit of advertisement over the years. His channel would also probably not exist if not for the game. Without him, the game would be fine.
 
JaWoodles video had players thinking cargo mods nolonger stack.
And needed to come down or be edited.
Instead he chose to use the "I'm not an employee" antagonistic reply.
His stubbornness to leave it up after given every opportunity is baffling.

The review bombing doesn't help his case.

Perhaps TFP could release an official video or host a dedicated livestream. Offering exclusive cosmetic giveaways throughout the broadcast would help defuse the current tense community atmosphere, alongside a preview of new content planned for the future of 7 Days to Die.

Except TFP has in the past snuck unannounced things into an experimental patch as a "surprise", so they have done stuff like this before and it is not unreasonable to expect it to happen again.

Honestly, I don't think this incident would even have happened before TFP sold out to BI and now that BI is in control, they are acting like ■■■■■■■■s.

You can't be serious. You think bandits of all things would be something they would sneak into a patch? You just can't be serious... What have they ever "snuck" into a patch anywhere near the level of bandits?
 
Some people here doesn't seem to understand that even if TFP sent the code to JaWoodle by accident, that doesn't allow him to share it with the public. It is still their proprietary code. Look, let's take the example where you are a movie studio and you accidentally share a movie with a business partner before it has ben released. That movie is your proprietary asset. You ■■■■ed up by accidentally sending it to a partner, true, but that partner is NOT allowed to do whatever he wants with it, including to distribute it to anyone else. In this case, the business partner did start sharing the movie, but was then told by you was proprietary and asked to stop.

In JaWoodle's case, he had already earned money from the video prior to TFP telling him to take it down. Sure, by asking him to take down the video, he will lose future revenues, but he has already gained from the whole episode. Of course he should comply by taking the video down, otherwise he would risk legal action from TFP. Also, by complying he would preserve his business relationship with TFP. And, again, it will still remain a win to him due to the revenues he had already received, and likely future revenues from having had access to such proprietary information which would likely make more people interest in watching his future movies.

Is it right of TFP to go hard at JaWoodle? Legally speaking, yes, no doubt. Strategically speaking, I have no idea how the backlash from JaWoodle's disciples might hurt their business. Morally speaking, based on what I know, yes, absolutely.

Finally, did TFP ■■■■ up by sending the wrong code? Yes, of course. Did JaWoodle ■■■■ up by refusing to take down the video or edit it or whatever? Yes, of course, and it is morally and legally wrong.

Again, he used strong clear wording in his title and just so happened not to say "sue" or "lawsuit" in his video. All he said is he got a legal demand requiring the content to be removed. But he might've forgotten to use those strong words in his video...who knows.

Now, I'm in the middle of avoiding some bull■■■■ work that I don't want to do, so I'm ■■■■ed and the fangs are out.

Number 1: You....are too biased to listen to on this subject.

Number 2: Based on how emotionally manipulative he was in his video ("...on my birthday, ...i would normally make a joke here but...", etc) my gut is telling me that he might not be the most trustworthy person or at best, he is naive.

NOW...there is one discrepancy regarding the posting of the Streamer Weekend requirements. The first message which contained the words "must play vanilla" and "This is to showcase V3.0." was written as an edit of a year old post...so it has a 2025 date on it. But the two subsequent posts, that were in regard to other aspects of Streamer Weekend, were posted 25 hours before the unintended version of the game was available for download.

Also, it was known well before streamer weekend that bandits were not to be included in 3.0. If someone has access to the 3.0 Twitch dev stream, which I think I remember jawoodle being a chatter in, the dev(s) also reiterated on the stream that bandits would not be in 3.0...I'm pretty sure of this but I cannot say for certain without the footage.

So if the requirements were posted 25 hours before the download link was available then he, as a member of the creator program, had a responsibility to read them. “I didn’t see it” is very different from “they never told me.”

Finally, and this is in reference to his possible naivety, why would he think it would be ok to display something that would not function under normal gameplay conditions, something that was said more than once would not be in 3.0, something that was never ADVERTISED to be in 3.0, something that clearly does not agree with the requirement "This is to showcase V3.0"? How long has he been doing this? This content creation? How old is he? Huh?
 
I'm sure this is going to get buried and probably never read by the "Fun" Pimps, but the way you treated Josh for the mistake you guys made is reprehensible. I'm going to speak to you the way I think you'll hear me the loudest: I'm never buying anything TFP are involved in unless you publicly make an apology to Josh and invite him back into the creator program . You have no respect for your customers (I'm referring to the massive dumpster fire of doo doo that the 2.0 update was, and don't even get me started on the whole learning by reading magazines) and you've been promising so much for so long and adding features nobody asked for and taking away features we liked.
 
Breaking 2026 news. Woodle delays bandits.

Both parties have actions to answer for, but the fact still remains they supplied a single content creator, whom they have poor footing with at the best of times and monitor everything he does, as he constantly breaks their game in ways they don't want it to, with a version never meant to be released and oh so coincidentally it had to be him. Why was the release even around in the first place? What actions have been taken to the one whom sent out that particular release?
 
And ANOTHER THING!
Why would anyone think it would be a good idea to make an indirect reference to the jawoodle situation in the "thank you" post to the early access members of the creator program?

I swear to God...the title of this whole thing should be "The Irresistible Moron Meets the Immovable Idiots".

Not only do we need some serious tax reform in the western world....there needs to be some serious public relations reform at TFP.

Case dismissed.

Of course not. But he is responsible for his "mistake" of disclosing proprietary information.

He could have removed the video after it was requested, bought himself some candy from the revenues of the video before it was taken down, enjoyed his fans adulation over temporarily having had proprietary information, remained on TFP's good side, preserved his partnership with TFP, and all would be good in this bestest of worlds.

In fairness, should TFP handled things differently? Well, of course they shouldn't have sent him that proprietary information to begin with. Maybe be a bit more careful about this in the future especially when dealing with people like JaWoodle? (see, I have learnt his handle now). But I cannot say whether they should have handled it differently when he started sharing that information because I am not privy to how valuable it is to them, I don't know how much of their plan is based on this being secret. Maybe they could have taken it on the chin and tried to spin a negative into a positive by going public with it themselves, too, and instead embraced the mistake. Or maybe asking JaWoodle to take it down and threaten legal action was the right way to do it. I cannot possibly say. What I can say, is that their actions are not exactly atypical for businesses ;) I suppose JaWoodle has learnt a little bit about how the world works now.
