The missed post from woodle

If I do promotional work for anybody I should receive any form of compensation or reward. If the organiser F's up the event he should compensate for it but not just say "Bad luck, please erase all your contribution". But we have no idea if TFP offered him compensation for missing out on the event so we can only speculate on that. Don't forget, it was for sure his right to participate in a promotional event with YT content to monetize for him in return.

Edit: That wallet is a bad example.

I would assume the video shows a lot more than bandits. Making a few(?) cuts to remove the bandits shown should be about 10 minutes of work (?) with a video editor. Besides that is the youtube video that is for people who missed the live stream, right? And he probably did live streams on the following days as well. There was no need to miss out on anything.

And the organiser did not ■■■■ up the event at all, at least for the streamers, they had no disadvantage. For the live stream Woodle got a real surprise he could show. A lot of bonus that should far outweigh a few minutes of editing work

He also streamed but already had some videos showing off stuff made before he streamed. His streams are just a normalish run using the new settings. It would've been about half of that video that needed to be removed, or maybe less depending on if they only wanted bandits edited out or also the section on the chicken coop.

The issue, to me at least, is as I stated before. That video's title and thumbnail, and half of its content, were about bandits and the chicken coop and made it seem as if they were going to be coming in 3.0. Bandits obviously are not going to be in, and the coop may not be in till a point patch after. It isn't confirmed for 3.0 yet at the very least, so it just looks bad on Woodle for framing that video the way he did. I can't say if he just did it for clicks, or if he wanted to cause drama. But he had to know that video wasn't gonna be liked by TFP. And yes, TFP made a mistake and left bandits in that initial build. As I said before, if he had just found them and been like "Hey guys, look at the progress they've made on bandits. They will be pretty cool when finished." or something like that I doubt they would've minded as much, but maybe they still would have. But when the title of the video is "7 Days to Die 3.0 Is WAY BIGGER Than I Expected" with a thumbnail pointing at bandits and the coop, that's just false advertising on his part. Ignorance can't be claimed either as the release notes were already there and no mention of coops or bandits.

I'm not completely disagreeing with you but the only way for TFP to prevent things like these to happen is simple: Don't use freelancers, only use your own staff for promotional events.
In the meantime this whole discussion is generating a lot of attention for both parties so no one is getting the short straw here. Genie is out of the bottle, long live Streisand. I mean, without this thread I wouldn't even have looked at the video since I initialy judged the thumbnail as clickbait and I'm sure I'm not the only one 🫠

Easy solution. Ask him to remove the content. If he refuses to do so (because it helps to drive views to his videos), then don't use him in the next stream event for development releases.

I understand that the initial issue occurred on TFP's side. But if I was a content creator and I was made aware that I had access to content I was not suppose to, I would work to correct that issue as quickly as possible - I would pull the video, edit it, and then re-post it.

Afaik, Youtube is a bit weird on edits, it might just bury the video if you cut half of it out. 10 minutes is prolly more like half an hour or more, and Woodle-boy had planned to be streaming as much as he physically can after releasing that; his voice was cooked yet again and he was completely knackered afterwards.. it wouldn't have been "convenient" at any point during the weekend, and kinda pointless afterwards. It's already received about 90% of its lifetime views.

I don't have strong feelings either way..
as JaWoodle, I would have removed the vid at some point, just as a matter of respect (might've asked a few questions and tried to convince TFP that it's not really worth it to remove it).
as TFP, I wouldn't cut ties with Woodle; it prolly was an honest mistake, and the harm is minimal. He was even pretty positive about the bandits, in turned into a decent teaser for them. Easy to say from outside, but forcing it down now would just be vengeful.

If I felt like I had done nothing wrong...I'd probably stick to my guns too.
That biting the hand that feeds you comment cuts both ways... for how many years have Content Creators and Modders keep this game alive and relevant?

You do realize that he has only 7 days to die content besides very few one shot videos about other games? If the game goes down so does he. He is highly dependent on the game. Let´s assume there is a copyright issue and it gets taken down from steam then he is done. Sure he could play other games, but every time a 7 days youtuber does other content it never gets as many views as 7 days content by far. .

He is not employed by TFP. Even then: If your boss F's up, is it your job to hide the mess he made? If his personal integrity tells him to leave it, if his audience is liking it, should he bend for the feeding hand that made the mistake possible?

He's part of the creator program and has to abide to the rules of said creator program.

If he refuses to remove/edit a video TFP judge should be removed/edited, they are in their right to remove him from the program. Whether they choose to or not is at their discretion.

Also, your example is terrible. The equivalent of what Jawoodle did would get you fired from most companies as it is a breach of the confidentiality agreement most companies have in place.

What you described sounds like a dealer/junkie relationship.

You know, it is funny...for years I had to watch You Tubers play 7 DTD because I couldn't. I stopped watching those same streamers and Content Creators when it dawned on me, Alpha after Alpha, there was little to no progression towards finishing the game...just reworked systems and a few new skins (and new POI...those I appreciate), and these same people were not using their platforms to call that out. They were a part of the same idiot thinking, that they were getting free content, and not that they were still waiting for what was paid for.

In this "situation" TFP "messed up" and instead of what typically happens when you "mess up"... there are no repercussions. They are being rewarded with a bunch of buzz around the game because of that "mistake". and apparently get to slap the wrist of the guy who...if he's going to be blamed for the "■■■■ Storm"... should be equally thanked for inspiring this Sandbox.

Just some thoughts.

sidenote: It would be nice to actually see the back and forth messages between both parties. There is an awful lot of context that "we" are not privy to.

On the bright side, the video shuts down the conspiracy theories we read all the time that TFP isn't really working on bandits and that it's a feature that will never come.
Given the level of stupidity some of the bandits have shown, there will still be people who are disappointed. Over the years, I’ve read a number of posts about all the things the bandits are supposedly capable of—things that are just unrealistic, like them raiding your base while you’re in another part of the map.

This is a pretty strong condemnation of your own actions and intelligence is it not? You claim streamers are suckers for not understanding something clear as day to you and yet you still purchased 7dtd?

to add more context...that was before they even announced the "new" game for console.

and yeah I got fooled. Rick and Joel put out a "good" road map, they sold me on the idea that they were close to actually finishing the game...that this was the final push. NOT that they still didn't have it all worked out, were still chasing squirrels, and were STILL years away from where they were leading people to believe they were at.... and I am the idiot for not "researching TFP" so I should have known that was all horse ■■■■? The road map dates were aspirational to them? They were going to continue on missing all deadlines...they were still figuring out what they were going to add? They sold a load of BS...and I bought some.

they seem to have used console to get a better selling price.

They are not even the owners anymore...they are employees of the company that will actually finish this game...someday...maybe in another year or two. Be nice to have some idea how much longer it will take. Be nice to know what the new guys are planning...they are hiring people to manage this as a "live service" game.

oh well...cue the defenders

I would have done the same. There seems to be a very split divide on this issue though, with the other half declaring that would be censorship or that it's "all fair game".

Personally speaking, I believe in trust, integrity, and an honour system - both towards one's bosses and audience. For example, a content creator *could* claim that 4.0 has been cancelled and TFP are shutting down through a video on their channel - neither of which is happening, of course - and if they wanted to, they *could* choose to leave it up even after TFP/BI requested they take it down, but in this hypothetical situation, should they? Sure, the cat is out of the bag, but the video would continue to deliberately mislead people, and no, in my opinion a top pinned comment saying "the information in this video is wrong" isn't near enough, but I guess it depends on who you ask.

I would completely understand if he thrown out of the program, if he was an employee he would likely get fired. Point stays that many publishers use freelance content creators as cheap promotion. If he looses early acces I don't think there's much lost for him, most of his content is not depending on these kind of events.

But what actualy surprises me is that there is still no message he's removed from the program... Tinfoil hat time: It was on purpose to create extra drama and attention for both parties...

As someone already stated above, the video has already received most of the views it's ever going to. Go to any content creator's chat and a very decent chunk are "can you show us the new bandits and chicken coop?". Until either are put into the game, those questions are never going to end. Many people today *still* believe the land claim block is useless in singleplayer probably because of a video made 10 years ago. It just is what it is. ~90% of people never check things themselves.

I wish discussions on actual content received as much interest as when we all argue with each other.
in my experience...one leads to the other. Good points get dragged off track by increasingly personal arguments.
conjecture is the life blood of these forums...people argue over things that the devs KNOW are true or not, and if it works in their best interest, they seem to let it continue.
