How far have you gone this playthrough?

Using windows-10 here. FWIW, I record using Game-bar then post-process using shotcut.
I am not sure what FWIW is. I know steam has game video capture but I am playing with steam offline so I just use FRAPs and record as a AVI, if you can believe that. Anyway, whatever the video codec is you can compress it in Handbrake.

YouTube will use x264 AVC and x265 HEVC and .MP4 and .MKV containers as well. Handbrake does all of this very easily. Also with most PCs that can run 7 Days to Die, the encode time will not take long on a 30 minute video.

A quick question, without the loot bonus, none of the traders would sell me a drone, When do drones start being sold? I'm used to playing and buying one from Jenn, but this game, my first w/o the loot bonus, even trader Bob had none for sale, is this normal?

I stopped looking for them, got a few I never use from lootbags already. Think the first few start dropping in loot in the snow when I was around lvl 100.

I see drones regularly. I'm not sure which loot bonus you mean. If you mean Lucky Looter, I never use that and I see drones. You do need to reach a certain game stage or loot stage or trader stage (I don't remember how that works for trader inventory), but once you reach that, it should be relatively common to see them. That doesn't mean you'll always see them, but you should see them off and on in any save. I do the quests regularly, so perhaps quest tier has an impact and if you don't bother with quests, maybe they're not going to show up. I don't know.

I waited to build one. Sometime after, I am guessing a 100 day mark. I wanted one but really did not need it.

One thing I do, is have the drone keep steel while I am repairing concrete so I don't accidentally upgrade the concrete to steel. Same with cobble, I have it carry concrete. I also use it to carry extra things I take to the traders, like a lot of magazines I don't really want that are basically worth pennies. Now I use it to carry 9mm for my turrets when I have my inventory all filled on bloodmoon. Other than that I do not use it for much.

In game setup, there are settings you can alter, and it is that one I am talking about. I have played 2 years with it set to 200%, but last game I set it back to normal, for the first time.

Even the Tarps for the dew collectors were not available until later on, and the Forged Ahead books were 1 per station at the traders, instead of the 2 I was used too, lol. Made for much slower progression of my character.

So, with normal xp and loot levels, I gain about 1/3 of the levels, and 1/2 of the loot.

My eyes are hurting a bit, so my restart is going to wait for a bit. I just wanted to check and see if the drones didn't start till the snow biome/level 100 or so.

Thanks for the help.

Normally, I get a level 1-2 drone right after reaching Jenn, and then fairly quickly buy a level 5 drone, and then I craft my own one level 6 one once I get my robotics to level 100.

Now without the loot bonus, I thinkin about putting points into it, to get them faster.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I never increase that, so I know they appear at default (100%) loot abundance.
Yeah. I had no Idea just how much they change things. My last game with the xp and loot set to max, I went to HNEN after day 35, and just kept on until I reached level 298-299, and then started my last game.

I am committed to playing/documenting with the game set to normal (default) settings, on the xp/loot settings, and trying to once again reach 300th level with no deaths.

My partner, who was running a parallel solo game series (his computer started having problems, no joining his game while he streams/getting kicked and unable to rejoin, hence and end to teaming up, and the need for parallel games), had agreed to also playing without these settings in his next game.

Instead, a lady friend was lonely, and wanted folks to come join her private server. She had always maintained that she and her group were playing legit, but after my friend took a break and joined her server for a game or two, it came out that they were in fact cheating, and using creative mode to just spawn in everything they needed, from day one.

I don't do that, so NO solid steel base, NO dozens of steel storage boxes, nor filled with all kind of resources and every workstation the game has...

Plus, I am stuck using v2.4 until at least v2.6, or until TFP undo the font reduction for stamina/life that came bundled with v2.5. With my eyesight, it would probably be best if a user adjustable HUD were provided, so disabled folks could easily size/color their own HUD's to their needs. I have made simple coding changes to the map color for "Oil Shale" from whatever it is by default, and set it to the green color that lead uses, because I can at least aee that when I zoom in with the map open.

Anyway, I'll be trying my hand at the normal xp/loot setting, dead is restart playstyle.

Do other folks try to plan out their attribute and perk tree points ahead of time? I usually spread out my initial 4 points, but now I wonder if putting them all into the strength attribute, and forcing myself to invest in miner 69'er, mother load, and pack mule might not be a viable option for initial play.

Any thoughts?

Well, a solid steel base or dozens of steel storage crates doesn't indicate cheating. They may have cheated, but I play without creative mode (except if I want to decorate with something that is only in creative mode) and I at least upgrade my horde base to all steel and usually have around 30 crates... many steel, though not ones that aren't getting full enough for that.

As far as perks, I never plan it out. I just do whatever I feel like at the time. Sometimes I forget something and it impacts the game, but normally my choices have little impact. You can certainly go all Strength if you want. It will be a different result than the Jack of All Trades that I do. But both options work just fine in this game. Since I don't use a Strength weapon and I don't start mining until mid game, I never have a need to put points into Strength until at least mid game, if not end game.

Day 1, 2248 hrs
Level 4, 38 kills
2/10 quest progression.

I fell from grace, and spent a point on siphoning strikes, as I got mauled by a nazi biker trash. Used up 3 good healing items, but survived first day.

When Circe invites you to her island, you should always partake of the roast pork feast she graciously offers you even if the pork is actually your former crew.

...because, well, Circe is ■■■■ fine!

Day 2, 1641 hrs.
level 7, 62 kills.
4/10 quest progression.

I finally got to my goal, of lvl 4 Miner 69'er. Best progression of tools tech I can get. Got a single dew collector up and running, one campfire w/4 wood storage boxes, and walls just three blocks high.

My mine has hit bedrock, my land claim block sits at the bottom, but starting to make tunnels will take 17 whacks with my current tech (lvl 2 stone axe). Good time for more loot quest I think. Food is tight, and without materials, I cannot upgrade walls, but mother load is zero.

I have no points in LOTL, nor any points in cooking, what little food and drink I have, is going to have to stretch till day 3.

Day 3

Here is where I am at now...
day 3.jpg
Here is where I make brief notes on my game play sessions.

I suffered from a giving-in-to-temptation, again, and spent a point in pack mule, rather than in mother load. I have much treasure/worthless junk, stached around the map, at/near the PoI's I have so far done.

My base has walls 4 blocks high, 4 wooden storage boxes, one campfire, but now with all three mods, a pair of Dew collectors sitting on the ground outside, and the west wall of my land claim has a forest now. Once I harvest those trees, I can plant the East and South walls, as well.

Base is starting to shape up.Base day 3 morning.jpg
All I have done, so far.
