Antibiotics are pretty useless in the game. They can sometimes come in handy if you don’t have honey. You can also find or buy them, just like honey. You can get honey from trees if you’ve read the book, or from logs. This kind of breaks the game balance. I don’t remember ever having an infection show up in red, only when I played with friends, and I didn’t really care about it. Honey should only heal a small part of an infection. After that, the infection should turn into a disease that can be treated with antibiotics.
The only real advantage of antibiotics is that with a single click, they can heal a large part of an infection. But other than that… if honey can heal every percent of an infection, antibiotics lose their value in the early game and mid. Traders usually have either honey or antibiotics for sale. It would give antibiotics more meaning or at least some value if you couldn’t cure an advanced infection that has turned into a disease with honey alone, and had to use antibiotics instead.
In the late game, when you have an apiary, this isn’t really a problem. But you always have in the back of your mind that if you run out of honey, you’ll have to use antibiotics at some point. There is acutally no any good reason to craft them but you need a lot of books to do that. But I guess it’s balanced for multiplayer rather than singleplayer.
