Can I change the distance zombies spawn? They keep spawning in my base.

Is there a setting I can change in XML for zombies to spawn like 120 blocks away from my base. (its big) If so what would be the value for that and where.

If you are living in a POI, under the Advanced tab in your Game Settings, there is an option to change the claim size of your LCB. I think the max is 71x71. That should protect most of your base, but you might be able to increase the size in XML too. However, if you're not living in a POI, zombies don't spawn on player placed building blocks.

I've been mistaken about that one a couple times, but think I've finally learned that LCB doesn't prevent biome or horde spawns. Or maybe I'm mistaken yet again :)

Zombies also don't spawn on player based blocks.
Not "player based", they spawn only on terrain (dirt, asphalt etc). Player placed terrain happily spawns them; and roofs or concrete sidewalks of POIs don't.

Nope, that's correct. Bedroll prevents biome spawns (I think) but LCB just blocks POI respawns.

Yep, it has to be an upgradable block, basically (though maybe things like furniture and what not would prevent it as well?). Not sure how big an area you have to cover to 100% stop spawns, though.

Still, I wish there was some way to have grass in your base without it spawning zombies.

You're not mistaken. I assumed their base was a POI, which LCBs will protect from POI spawns. I will edit my message to relay that better.

Player placed building blocks do prevent zombies from spawning iirc.

LCB's will not prevent zombies from spawning within your zone, you would have to cover every inch of your base with something like the flat blocks or something of the sort, I just use spike traps all the way up to my base, but only 4 rows. I believe (could be wrong though) that LCB's are mainly to keep other players from so easily raiding your base whether you're online or offline.

That is one effect, but I would say the main effect is to let you move things.

In any case, fill areas you don't want zombies to spawn with blocks (not terrain).

If I set land claim in a poi will someone who does poi.... restore poi and destroy my bat-cave?

blocks set to 70 radius and they still spawn in near immediate area...

I have a house coated in steel and the outside steel ground and they spawn....

Are you talking about horde or regular spawns? Are you certain they aren't wandering in?

And if you are using a POI, are you certain you killed every single zombie before placing the land claim? Leaving them alive will let them spawn in any sleeper volume in the POI. Except a small area around a bedroll, I believe.

As far as using a land claim in a POI, it will prevent other players from getting a quest at that POI. However, if they already have a quest there, I think they can will start it, which would remove anything you placed there. I haven't tested that, though.

Neebs' crew had a whole subplot about that, one of the guys had a quest in a claimed POI and couldn't start it. Turned into semi-PvP at times... :)

Last time I tried, even your own bedroll will stop you doing a quest w/bedroll in it.

I used to also have mystery zombies spawning within my fortress, the walls of which were 4 blocks thick, and 6 blocks high, and I still had zombies within. They didn't break through the walls, mind you, they were spawning on dirt/topsoil within the walls, in the "courtyard". Once folks let me know about that, I paved the entire 71 X 71 land claim, and no more zombies spawned within my walls.

That was a base built from scratch, though. I don't know what being lazy and taking a ready made PoI might have in the way of loopholes.

Did anyone ask if you were talking about day-to-date spawns or horde night spawns? I believe there is a difference, but I could be wrong.

Was wondering about this myself. I never use POIs, always build from scratch and Zombies routinely spawn inside perimeter of LCB.

I did ask about horde versus regular spawns but they haven't responded yet. Horde spawns do have a distance, but biome spawns are random.

I have to ask, are there any Topsoil/Dirt/Gravel blocks within the LCB? Or do you pave the entire 71 X 71 area?
I'm on console, Xbox Series X. LCB area is 41 X 41. I usually lay down the block and build my base within that perimeter. Yes, I do have soil, dirt, grass inside the perimeter.

If that's the reason why they spawn then that seems to make the LCB kinda pointless. In a solo game who are you claiming the land from?

One of the LCB's main features for a solo game is that it lets you pick things up. Other than that, if you are at a POI for a base, it will help stop POI respawns once you've completely cleared the POI and prevent quests at that POI that might reset the POI and make you lose your base there if you start the quest.

To stop biome spawns within your base, you'd just put down blocks instead of terrain (i.e. pave the area). I know some people like having grass/etc. inside their base's walls, but that lets the zombies spawn. Think of it like zombies crawling out of unmarked graves in the ground. They can do that if it's just terrain, but if you've placed blocks over the ground, they can't get out. ;)
