Um... it's a zombie game. Gore makes sense. Besides, just look at the various crashes and collapsed buildings. Being cut in half isn't even remotely unlikely. Keep in mind that this end of world event probably happened VERY quickly. And since it is a zombie game, you're going to see them "alive" when they should be dead. You aren't going to convince many people that the level of gore in this game is too much. If it's too much for you, then this is probably not the best game for you to play. It's actually very mild for what it could be.
Again, its not just "the gore is too much" its that the gore doesn't serve any actual purpose. Like what someone else mentioned...
The POIs are full of grim stories, like car accidents pinning corpses to walls and obvious suicide scenes.
If there was a car accident pinning a corpse to a wall, and gore was involved, that's 100% fine. The gore, in that case, serves a purpose - environmental storytelling. However, the gore in this case serves no purpose whatsoever, its just there for the sake of it. If it were actually there for a reason, I'd put up with it, but it isn't. I don't enjoy gore by itself, but I can enjoy what it does by consequence of it being there. If you enjoy gore by itself, you really need to seek therapy. And does it make more sense to have hundreds or thousands of these guys spawn by the time you're done with your save, or to have them be unable to walk for absolutely any reason other being cut in half?
There. It's highly effective, that's all it takes. It's a horror game.
I almost went off on an actual tangent about this, so let me summarize it.
First off, the purpose of a horror game is not to disgust, that's just stupid.
Second off, the purpose of a horror game isn't always even to scare. Look at games like Left 4 Dead and Lethal Company, they use horror as game elements but they aren't primarily horror games. Lethal Company is a game about being a cartoon character and hoarding scrap, Left 4 Dead is a shooter, but they're still considered horror. 7 Days to Die isn't like Outlast, it uses horror as a tool to enhance the environment. It's
horror-themed. Valve didn't make it so that realistic intestines spill out of zombies when you cut them up with the chainsaw. Why? Because that wouldn't enhance the gameplay, the environment
or even the horror. In fact, it wouldn't enhance the experience at all, so it would be pointless aside from making players gag. That is directly equivalent.
As for you getting hot and bothered by a corpse, don't worry; she's still quite live-like, it doesn't make you a necro. Couple of the other ladies often end up in awesome poses, emphasizing the thiccc - and their whole clothing masks the deadness of their state, so it can get tempting in a lonely apocalypse... Just as bad. Just as funny..
I feel the same way about seeing a corpse in skimpy clothing as I would about seeing an 80 year-old in skimpy clothing. My life could've done nothing but improve if I didn't have to see it, it brings me nothing of value and it makes me want to vomit in the corner. I'm probably going to have to stop participating in this discussion after this, because talking about it makes me feel physically ill. There aren't very many topics which actually make me nauseous just by way of bringing them up, but you found one.
