Wilderness Filler Dire Wolves

Are you certain it was that POI? I don't see any wolf spawners in that particular POI. Just a sleeper dog chance.
Pretty sure. I wanted to make sure myself that it wasn't a fluke so I started a new game, same map and went to that location with the AI off. Sleeping dire wolf beside two other zombies. I did take a screenshot after I had woken them up, but it's on my other computer. I'll have to jump over and snag it.

I don't mind dire wolves in the forest region. They've always been there. They just didn't always look so scary. And it would have made me crap my pants as a new player to see one, which I think would be an awesome experience for any new player. They'll learn how to deal with them...after they run from and/or die to them a few times maybe. Also an awesome experience. Aside from that one corn/straw field POI with the outbuilding, I usually see them downtown. Also a scary experience. "Ack! Instant stealth! Climb a tree! Do something!"

New players aren't babies. I'd wager they've played games before. It blows my mind that holding an axe has been made a major objective at the start of the game. Er, well, how else am I supposed to use it? Word has it that was done because material has to be gathered specifically with the stone axe at the beginning, but what else are you going to have at the beginning?

The beginning has been dumbed down enough, don't you think?

Bears, wolves, coyotes, cougars

Should be in the forest.

At least let it change for difficulty for people who wanna deal with it

Well, maybe not coyotes, but given how little wildlife there is, it would make sense to see bears, wolves and cougars in the forest, cougars being restricted to higher elevations perhaps. 'Tis true that we're seeing coyotes in neigborhoods across the Carolinas. They are perfectly capable of migrating, but are more expected in desert areas.

I get that they want the biomes "themed," but there must be a better way to go about that than being so restrictive with world entities. Assuming Frostclaw and Desert Spitter were arrived at for that purpose. You'll only see them in their respective biomes as opposed to 1001 lumberjacks in the snow biome, for example.

the old dire wolves with ~800 hp? Sure. The new direwolves with ~2.4k hp and seemingly 100% crit chance? No thanks.

All the world entities have very short/narrow awareness cones. Aside from ferals, you can lose any world entity, including the dire wolves, in very short order. Just the look of them would make me avoid and/or outrun them/get out of their way as opposed to trying to take them on as a new or veteran player. Not trying to convince you to like the idea of them being there, but there are ways around them until you're good and ready to take them on.

You know, this is a little used tactic, it seems. People forget running/hiding/evading is okay also. Specially if you play dead is dead.

I just had one spawn on me last night. Day 5 on adventure mode. I was walking down the road and luckily seen it. It spawned across the road from rekt's trading outpost. To kill it I had to run inside the traders fence and shoot it thru a tiny gap in the gate. Took over 40 arrows and alot of time. I don't think it should be spawning in the Forest that early on that easy of a mode. Just my 2 cents
