Hey @meganoth, last time, you told me their telemetry provider went bankrupt.

Do you know if they found a new provider and if not, what kind of telemetry / analytics they used or needed?

This is not just people on the forum. Many TFP employees would like it darker, myself included.
Ambient light and moon light brightness reduction only happens at a Brightness setting below 50% and 50% is the default, so it is not changing the defaults.

Helmet lamp was a sensible balance adjustment, because the range was way too long and longer ranges lead to worse performance and I actually increased the brightness a bit to compensate for the reduced range as brightness decreases with distance.

I kinda like the ability to see with a light brighting up a room so one can see your target VS being on top of them and getting surprised attacked cause you got too close. that's the whole purpose of rouge or assassin armor set for stealth and a use of a sniper rifle... what good is a sniper rifle if you can't snipe them from a distance in the house with a silencer during day or night... one has the helmet light on lighting your way... if you shine a flashlight into a room in real life, it lights up a far distance. seems folk don't want reality effects.

Everyone has different play styles. If i want to be able to go in Commando Style and not stealth, i'd wear commando outfit, which would negate the purpose of the stealth aspect of things.

The problem is that lighting is not realistic at night prior to this change.  At least, not unless you're in a city that has lights on everywhere all night long.  In real life, there are nights in the country where you can barely see your hand in front of your face.  Even with a medium level of lighting where you can see decently enough, it's still darker than in the game.  That's why there is an option now to reduce the lighting to make it closer to realistic for people who prefer a darker atmosphere.  For those who want it brighter, nothing has changed.  Yes, they reduced how far the helmet light will light up an area but also increased its brightness.  Maybe it's not as realistic (I haven't tried Experimental, so don't know how it works now), but considering you don't even need a helmet light to begin with if you aren't lowering the brightness, it's hardly an issue.  It really wouldn't affect anyone except those who want it darker and also want the light to make everything really bright.  Even then, I doubt it's that big of a deal, and probably wouldn't even be noticed by almost all players if it wasn't mentioned.

And don't forget that in real life, if you shine a light into a room, anyone in the room would notice and react.  So you wouldn't be shining a bright light into a room if you were doing stealth to begin with.

If they do plan on reducing the light or if it's requested, etc - hopefully the zombie's awareness of the light limitation is also reduced so they don't react to the old (aka current at the time of this post on xbox) light brightness and still detecting it current brightness when the new lighting effect takes effect.

I must admit, i'm still using the "7D2D World Lighting Tuned (v1.0 b333) mod" in v1.2 b25 (this is without a helmet mod so far) and so far i've noticed no negative effects of still using that mod. this is obviously single player only. when i play on friend's server i obviously can't use any mods and we've only played server of 1.2 b25 for a a few hours so far, but again, so far we haven't noticed any negative effects (we do have helmet mods on server games as we're using a save from 1.2 b14 at day 60+)

Regardless of whether or not i will still use the World Lighting mod or not in future, i have no intention of messing with any brightness settings in the game, i play hardly any other games these days but i do use many different PC's regularly (at home and work) and my days of messing with lighting options in games is long in the (forgive the pun) dark and dismal past, as i don't want to have to mess about with settings for a.n.other games or application ; (i've spent a lifetime messing with things, nowadays i want most settings etc to just work as-is)

Unless Xbox is different, which it isn't supposed to be, zombies do not react to light at all.  They react to you being too close to them or entering their sleeper volume.  If you have feral sense enabled, they also react based on that.  But they don't react to light.  You can stand near one where it isn't yet reacting to you and turn on a light and it won't do anything.  You can also fire a weapon when standing near it when it isn't yet reacting to you and unless you shoot the zombie or a nearby block or another zombie, it also will not react.

So please don’t  begrudge the twenty of us who want flashlights and headlamps to actually serve a function in the game and will choose to do so by lowering our brightness below 50% and have fun our way while you keep things bright and cheerful and have fun your way.

21 of us. Looking forward to the change. I leave the brightness settings at the default and don't even have to worry about the helmet light mo anymore. I miss when I was excited to find one

But I can hit a zombie in the distance at night with an arrow and step a few meters away and when it runs up to where I was it doesn’t see me but during the day if I do that it does.  So light levels do determine….something.

Would be nice if xbox and PC would be updated at same time.. meaning PC update it's held from PC game until FP's confirm xbox has posted it for us xbox's to update our game.

when us xbox players hear all the gossip of such 'n such updates and PC user's all enjoying the update or something; us xbox players can't really contribute to the feedback in a fair and updated manner. Instead there's such a rush to push to PC players first even though FP's have agreed xbox, PC and PS would all get the same update upon it's release..
So a large margin of feedback is dormant.   xbox players can only reference to what was once before, not what is present.

It's like a giant D tease to xbox and playstation players looking at the potentially juicy updates yet can't quite touch the experience.

😕

Could anything have changed hit detection / colliders with the update? It could very well be that I'm simply missing my shots as well as misremembering, but I seem to be having more trouble than usual hitting shots with the primitive bow and the hunting knife seems to have less range.

It certainly does.  I can't remember who was doing the tests but the light level played a huge role in how aware the zambs were.  Feral senses played a huge role in it as well as distance from the zambee.

Well, I was referring to the lights you use.  But perhaps there is some light recognition when trying to hide after being seen.  But there isn't any way any other time.

If you mean the experimental releases, the console companies don't allow those.  Experimental is necessary to help cut down major bugs before release the the majority of players who don't use experimental.  But if just isn't possible to do that for console.

As far as stable releases, they normally should appear at the same time, or at least within a few hours of one another.

I think the zambs only care about total light, and not where it comes from.  so you both are technically correct!

My only complaint about this alpha is the lack of high rises in the desert biome.  I get the smaller towns and cities in forest and burnt forest, but it would be nice to have 1 sky scraper in a desert city.  Maybe i've just been unlucky with my rng worlds.

I don't mind the winter biome, but the desert is so pretty i want to stay there lol.

So you will install a mod to change lighting, but you won't move a slider from 50% down to 25%?

I played at 25% this weekend and it was great. I had to actually use torches in a basement to see (new game).

Light effects how far they can see you, so there is a big detection difference from light to dark.

Well, bug fix patches are not supposed to take long as crossplay had already passed. PS5 approval took minutes. Maybe MS is backlogged and they don't give us times.

Hold stuff and people complain. Release it partially and people complain. Lose lose. Our mistake, we should have held it a day.

No changes that I can recall.

Holding a light greatly decreases stealth.

Regular cities spawn in desert and snow biomes.
