Considering no news yet, I doubt it will happen before they go on break.  Even if it did, it would be Experimental and not Stable until at least the middle of January to give time to test Experimental.  So no updates for console until at least then, for those who are on console.

The last experimental build (Sep. 24) went stable 7 days later (Oct. 1st) so, it could still happen if there's an experimental build release this week or next week.

Also, they could just release Cross-play in an update to please a lot of people who have been waiting for that feature.

Unless I am remembering incorrectly, that was just an update to fix some issues with the previous stable version and wasn't a fully new version.  The new version with all the new features is going to need more time in Experimental to test those.  If they do only a week on Experimental for it, that would not be wise.

1.0 experimental launched June 24, stable was released July 25, a month later.

1.1 b4 experimental launched August 7, not sure when (if) b4 stable launched, I see forum questions asking for stable on Sep 16.

1.1 b14 experimental launched on Sep 24, stable launched on Oct 1.

Safe to say that 1.2 will stay in experimental for longer than a week.

I assume we can disregard the release dates they had for the future updates in that "Alpha Exodus" graphic, as we should be seeing the "Storms Brewing" update this month at the latest if it were accurate.

To be fair, the roadmap did say the timeframes were subject to change.

But going by their Twitter posts saying that crossplay was coming "sooner than you think!", I think that's only true if we all never expected crossplay for another 12 years.

I've been wondering about the update... It's getting late into Q4 to be hearing nothing.  Not even a streamer weekend announcement... Assuming they do that for the SB update...

TFP have already said there will be a 1.2  and possibly a 1.3 prior to Storms Brewing.  As over 10 years of experience with 7D2D release date estimates have taught us, roadmaps are just the desire (not a promise) as well as very unlikely to be met.  I'd rather wait for a good release than rush a bug filled release before the holidays.

@faatal Hello there sir!

Would you happen to know if the vehicles storage mod is coming in the next update?

What about the new animal models that are still missing? (chicken, rabbit, Grace, pig, vulture, coyote)

Also, anything you are working on right now that needs a lot of work still? (that you can talk about of course)

Thanks.
No storage mod in 1.2 or probably 2.0 either.

Most of those are in. Not pig.

Mostly been working on optimizations for 1.2 and some bug fixing.

Hey @faatal, we're approaching the end of the year and Storm's Brewing was initially announced for Q4 2024. I know it's done when it's done, but so close to the intended release date, I feel you should have a sense of wether it's on track or if it will need to be delayed a bit. Could you share how confortable you and the team feel about the release?
We are working on 1.2 and 2.0. 2.0 will be next year.

@faatal Hi Shawn,

Any progress on Cross-play that you can share?

Keep up the good work.
Now that 1.2 exp is out, I can say that crossplay was approved on console for peer to peer games. Joining dedi servers is in the works.

Actually, his name spells Shaun...  :heh:

Well, it really just depends on what new bugs we find and how fast they get fixed.

I assume 2.0 is the "Storm's Brewing" update.

Is there any possible way you could convince the forum gods to create a new "Dev Diary" thread for that update? Cramming the 2.0 changes into the first page will just make things confusing.

But if you can't - is there any way you can be specific about what, precisely, will be the new features or fixes that come with that update?

Specifically, is this going to be an overhaul of the weather system, similar to what was done between A19 and A20? Or is it going to focus mostly on how weather affects the player, such as re-enabling heat (de)buffs and making weather-related armor mods have an effect again?

I ask because I am interested in seasonal weather. I made a mod that implemented it, but it relied on global temperature. Global temperature doesn't really matter in the current weather implementation. Will it matter in 2.0? If not, is there going to be some other kind of global weather?

Also, any kind of "spoilers" for 2.0 would be very welcome to hear. :)

1. How much time and effort approximately did it take to merge the cameras into 1.2? How many problems had to be solved? I'm just curious for more understanding of the development processes.
2. Why the storage modification probably won't even be in 2.0? Are there serious problems there, or is it just a low priority task?
3. Can you say something about optimisation in 2.0 and future versions? Will there still be big improvements like in 1.2 (camera merging)? Big optimisation improvements were in A19.5, A20, 1.0 (windows and stability in cities). Will we see additional major optimisations in the future? Maybe an improvement in multithreading someday?

I briefly. Read or fast read  alot since my last message, just so much. Lol. About the update. Most companies for gaming and software close office a week before Christmas day. For schedule. Holiday vacations.  Its just how work. Any or new releasing of software or patches needs a week of staff members to be around to have critical bug fixes to get address as quickly as possible. Well it is possible. To call certain people in time of need on the holidays, but expensive and inconvenience. For all. Understandably. My point being if we dont see it by dec 15 to 16th. It mostly going to happen sometime after new year. Maybe later January 2025. Just the way it is. For us xbox players. I would say before February 30 2025. Because it takes 3 weeks to get approved by microsoft.

I bet we havent heard from the because of that date. I bet they are putting everything they got to try to make that date. But if they a successful or not we see.  A lot of pressure. A lot of stress. Stuff never goes as planned. We all know that

@faatal

Ok, so I understand that a theater mode (meaning, being able to record gameplay data and play it back and view it from any angle) would be way too much to implement.

But what about a limited theater mode? What about if it only recorded data from the immediate area and would only save (say) the last 30 seconds? Kinda like how Nvidia shadowplay can be configured to where you hit a key and it saves a designated amount of time of your gameplay video footage.
